Harry sighs. “It isn’t real, Lav—” 

“But what if it is?” Parvati asks, interrupting. “What if V can prove it?” 

Harry raises one eyebrow. “How?” 

Parvati purses her lips. Then her eyes light up with an idea. “Ask the board something V could only know if it was telling the truth.” 

Harry hesitates. It’d have to be something that none of his friends know, otherwise they’d no doubt influence the answer. 

Finally, he thinks of something.  

“Alright then, V,” he says, keeping his voice steady, “how did my parents die?” 

For a long moment, the planchette doesn’t move; then it does. 

‘M,’ ‘U,’ ‘R,’ ‘D,’ ‘E,’ ‘R.’ 

Harry stares down at it, and he feels an absurd urge to laugh. When he looks up from the board, he sees Lavender has gone pale. Parvati looks uncomfortable. Ginny leans her head on his shoulder. 

“Is it true?” Luna asks. 

Harry lets out a shuddering breath. He knew it was fake. He knew it. But still, there had been some small part of him that’d wondered… Well. Not anymore. 

“No,” he says, “it isn’t. My parents died in a car crash.”

Exploring the Names of the Captive Prince Trilogy (1/3)

I’ve seen other people talk about it, but I wanted to do it too. :-\ 

I wanted to do every name, but there were too many. Please inform me if any information is inaccurate. 

Akielon Names 

Damianos (Damen) - Both names are derived from the Greek damazo, meaning “to tame”. The alternate spelling of Daimen also has the meaning of “gentle”. 

Nikandros - Means “victory of a man”. Derived from the Greek nike and andros, meaning “victory” and “of a man” respectively. Nike was also the Greek goddess of victory. 

Makedon - Makedon, also spelled Macedon or Makednos, was the ancestor of the ancient Macedonians and said to be a son of Zeus. Derived from the Greek makednos meaning “tall, slim”. 

Pallas - Means both “to brandish” and “maiden”. Pallas is one of the epithets of the goddess Athena, supposedly given to her after she slayed a giant of the same name. 

Kastor - Means “to excel” or “to shine”. The mythological Castor was a son of a Spartan king and the twin half-brother of Pollux, the son of Zeus. 

Jokaste - Derived from the Greek Iokaste, which is of unknown meaning. In Greek mythology, Jocasta was the wife and mother of King Oedipus. 

Erasmus - Derived from the Greek erasmios, meaning “beloved”. 

Isander - Derived from the Greek isos, meaning “equal”, and andros, meaning “of a man”. 

Theomedes - Possibly created by Pacat. Derived from the Greek theos, meaning “god”, and medomai, meaning “to think, to plan”. 

Egeria - Derived from either the Greek aigeiros, meaning “black poplar”, a type of tree, or the Latin egerere, meaning “to bring out”. In Roman mythology, Egeria was a famous nymph who pregnant women offered sacrifices to in order to “bring out the baby”. 

Hypermenestra - Comes from the mythological figure of Hypermnestra, one of the fifty danaides, the daughters of King Danaus. She was the only danaid not to kill her husband, as he had wished her to remain a virgin. 

Adrastus - Traditionally translated as “inescapable”. Also spelled as “Adrestus”. 

Lykaios - Comes from the Greek Lykaia, a festival held on the slopes of Mt. Lykaion (“Wolf Mountain”) in Greece. Zeus uses the epithet Lykaios, meaning “wolf-Zeus”. 

Euandros - Derived from the Greek eu, meaning “good”, and andros, meaning “of a man”. 

Eradne - Possibly created by Pacat. A similar name, Ariadne, belonged to a Cretan princess in Greek mythology who was abandoned by the hero Theseus and wived by the god Dionysus. Derived from the Greek ari, meaning “most”, and adnos, meaning “holy”. 

Agar - Greek version of the Hebrew name “Hagar”. Possibly means “flight”. 

Kydippe - Variation of “Cydippe”. Earliest source and meaning of the name are unknown. 

Treus - Derived from the Greek treo, meaning “to fear, to dread, to flee from fear”. 

Thestos - Possibly created by Pacat. Similar to “Thestius”, which is derived from the Greek theos, meaning “god” and esthein, meaning “to eat”. 

Timon - Derived from the Greek timao, meaning “to honor, to esteem”. 

Nekton - Derived from the Greek nekhein, meaning “to swim”. 

Arsaces - Hellenized form of the Old Persian “Arshaka”. Possibly a diminutive of arsha, meaning “bear”, or arshen, meaning “male”. 

Nisos - Variant of Nisus. Meaning unknown. 

Inachtos - Comes from Inachos, the first king of Argos. Cannot locate definition. 

headcanon that while Dazai happily flirts with people and finds it amusing, when that energy is matched and they flirt back his brain just shuts down.

Definitely happened with Chuuya when he asked to sit in his lap or made a joking response or something and Dazai just stared blankly at him, he literally never recovered from it.

I'm going on a long plane ride soon, and I really need long Tomarry fics (that are completed preferably.) I like time travel stories, serial killers, basically anything that I can totally escape into please please please please :D

Now, this is not quite time travel or serial killers, but it’s absolutely fantastic all the same, and absolutely worth the read. Fantasy, dark-ish, and a happy ending. 20k.

A day later, Ginny goes missing. Harry is convinced that Tom is behind her disappearance, and becomes determined to exact justice by any means necessary.

This one was so goddamn painful, but so brilliant. 20k.

The other orphans avoid Tom Riddle like the plague. He lounges on his broken throne, watches the whispers fade around him with sharp, dark eyes. Nobody can quite work out why he seems so fascinated with the new boy, who walks in smelling of smoke and hasn't said a word in three days.

I remember following this one as each of the chapters came out, and by the gods it was glorious. In a much darker universe, half tinged with madness, Harry and Tom meet, and it’s perfect. 83k.

His second identity makes a name for himself and immediately ensnares Minister Riddle's complete and obsessive attention. A game of cat and mouse begins and morals are questioned.

One of my favourites, although I’m pretty sure it’s been abandoned. Vigilante!Serial killer!Harry and Minister!Riddle, who still runs the Death Eaters, and makes for one dangerous, tantalising romance. 209k.

After a recent screw-up on the job whilst hunting a serial killer, Harry needs a break from being an Auror. His new Victorian house promises just that, but living with the restless spirit of a former Dark Lord isn't quite part of the peace and quiet he was hoping for.

Okay, okay, okay, I know you said completed works only, but I’m incapable of leaving this beauty off my rec list. Maybe I’m just a sucker for darker things, but I think this is beautiful. 125k.

So let Harry Potter die, let his legacy run like ink through the pages of history until it dries for evermore. The world is better off without Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort both, so Harry will kill the one of them that he can and hope it will be enough.

OR: Past and present, Harry and Voldemort are connected. A tale of two immortals and the question of what it means to have an adversary when forever is in the cards.
