Hi I'm back with new art
the fact that Jesse was actually thriving and speaking up for himself and making his own decisions without Walt when he was working for Gus and Mike is so so telling. I truly believe Walt, even after everything they've been through together, sort of draws on the inherent power imbalance that's still intact from when Jesse was his student. Walt as an adult in a position of authority and power and Jesse as a nervous, mouthy teenager. I think Jesse has internalized a sense of inferiority around Walt, and now that he's an adult he isn't sure where to put those feelings so he still just...accepts them. I mean he literally still calls Walt "Mr. White" even years later and after months of working together in a partnership!! And I think Walt is very aware of this and uses it as yet another way to further exploit and abuse Jesse. Which is actually very sick and twisted if you think about all the ways Walt is insatiable for power. "hey Jesse remember how I've had authority over you in very real, tangible ways since you were in high school? well it's still like that. I don't care if you're 25, you still don't have agency. you still don't have consent. not as long as you're with me." and then proceeds to call him "son" and cultivate his dependence on him until Jesse literally can't functionally exist without him. deranged, demented, unhinged etc
