" A La Queue Leu Leu", Col De Méhatché, (Pyrénées-Atlantiques)

" A la queue leu leu", Col de Méhatché, (Pyrénées-Atlantiques)

"À la queue leu leu"  cette locution tire son origine au XIe siècle. On parlait du "leu", "lou" du latin "lupus".  au XIIIe on ajoutera un  "p" donnant notre actuel "loup". . "A la queue leu leu" renvoie donc aux loups qui, se déplaçant bien souvent en meutes, se suivent et marchent dans les pas les uns des autres, soit "les uns derrière les autres". La forme "leu" subsistera jusqu’au XVIe siècle

En anglais, on dirait plutôt moving one behind the other ou in single file, mais on peut trouver aussi l'expression plus colorée (mais malheureusement rarement employée) " in indian file".
