The rivalry between William Birkin and Alexia Ashford is one of the funniest things in RE. He’s 9 years older than she is. So when Alexia became the head researcher in the Antarctica base at the age of 10, Birkin was 19. An adult man is pissed because a kid is smarter than he is. Ultimately, his anger turns into hatred and an obsession to prove that he is the most intelligent child prodigy and that his research is better than hers.
It gets even better. In 1983 Alexia was officially declared dead . Birkin got what he wanted. He is the smartest of them all again. But Birkin is just like “I’ll ignore that”, then continues his obsessive rivalry, now without a rival! Sometime after discovering the G-virus, Birkin wrote: “I can’t wait to see the look on Alexia’s annoying face when I finally announce my research. But unfortunately, I’ll have to wait a few more years to completely verify my findings.” The G-virus was discovered in 1988, 5 years after Alexia’s alleged demise. Unless he knew that she faked her death, what wanted Birkin to do? Dig up her corpse and discuss with a skeleton how much better his virus is?
What’s even funnier is the fact that Alexia never mentioned him anywhere. She sees herself as the pinnacle of the human race and others as her slaves. This makes it very well possible that their rivalry is purely one-sided, and she couldn’t care less about Birkin. He isn’t even worth her attention.

The Liquidator has the absolute peak of character design he’s puppy shaped water
things about nancy wheeler which certain people conveniently forget
she went out of her way to be nice to jonathan after will disappeared when steve and the others were being nasty
she acted as bait for a paranormal creature she knew would kill her if given the chance
she mourned her best friend for at least a year after her death, and went out of her way to be a source of comfort to barb's parents
she successfully exposed the us government for knowingly causing the deaths of innocents and trying to cover it up
she personally saved will from the shard of the mind flayer inside him
all of this happened to her when she was 16/17
was she a saint? of course not, perfect characters are bad writing. but to everyone saying that she's a demon and a bigot and whatever... are you seriously trying to say you didn't do stupid shit when you were a teenager?
s3 excluded, stranger things has had some of the most realistic writing of teenagers I've ever seen. they're naive and they're selfish, and oblivious at times, with no thought to the consequences of their actions. this is true of every single one of them.
but with one exception, they ultimately mean well, and are doing their best in a world which hardly views them as people, let alone the adults they will eventually become - just like real teenagers.
climb down from that high horse and grow up.
