yeah it’s become Discourse™ bc the meanie k haters siding with evan are doing so bc they’re racist, apparently. because obviously we can’t criticize poc characters who fuck up in a very one-sided way, if the person on the other side of their fuck up happens to be white
additionally, and interestingly, i’ve not seen gender come into the mix with this, despite the way it could be framed exactly the same way as gender bigotry since evan is a cis man
do not lump me in with your lot, I wish not to be associated with you, my main and only gripe with this is the response to Evan dying and coming back to life where Evan is prevented from expressing his frustration with the fact that a) his bodily autonomy was violated in the most severe way imaginable (death), and b) that it was due to K's need to "fix" Evan, and I understand that Evan is a dysfunctional character who needs some kind of intervention, but K overreached by intervening WITHOUT EVAN'S CONSENT! Those are my main gripes that Evan's voice was prevented from expressing the extent to which he objects with what happened. It was treated as though BEING PAINFULLY KILLED was on the same level as raising one's voice...and that just does not sit right with me, hell maybe I'm wrong...maybe the fact that Evan is alive and well negates the fact that he got his arm viscerally and painfully destroyed by someone he trusts, but I don't think it does. And let me be PERFECTLY CLEAR I have no issue with any of the performers I think its art and thats a perfectly valid direction to take your art, as is any direction, this is just the feelings that I am feeling in response to seeing the Evan and K things play out as I watch. IN CONCLUSION! My main issue is the violation of Evan's person, I do not know about the discourse surrounding this because I am not overly active on this website, it could very well be that the "K haters" are engaging in racially harmful rhetoric, I haven't seen any because as afore mentioned I don't wade through Tumblr very often. I believe there is a very real conversation to be had around the themes of race in Misfits and Magic, and I was discussing this singular event through a simple lens of respecting bodily autonomy (an issue I hold EXTREMELY DEARLY). Every character at that table has their own complexities, motives, and past experiences, and I understand that this is a comedy show at its core, but this season kind of strays more toward the dramatic and serious so I felt the need to engage in serious discourse. Honestly, as a white person I could be missing some important details about the events leading up to Evan dying, and if I am despite how this borderline essay sounds I am actually open to hearing different points of view, I just wanted to make it perfectly clear that I did not engage the text through that thematic lens and if that is a mistake I apologize
TLDR; I'm not with the racists I just don't like people violating other's autonomy
