Shadow was turned to a bat pony when he was a filly and ran away shortly after. He ended up in the changling kingdom and was taken in by a changling who saw that they could help one another. It loved its caregiver, which fed them, and in return, it's caregiver raised it. As the changlings nature changed after King Thorax's rise, Shadow became reacquainted with ponies.

Due to its upbringing, he never had the expectation or opportunity to get a cutiemark. While he will eventually have one, it isn't important to him.

Liviya hatched later than her peers, and never really was able to get along. Despite wanting to make friends, they were very shy and had trouble connecting. They instead poured themselves into studying until she graduated. They then moved to the Crystal Empire to continue her education, where she met Shadow.

I just always feel like no one wants to hear about my life or my ocs or the things I'm interested in. And surely that can't be true, but it keeps me from talking to the people who care about me. I don't know. It makes me feel stupid.
