I Dare You

“I dare you to say it’s okay for me to make out with your wife,” my friend said half-jokingly. My wife giggled at this outrageous suggestion. Knowing that she would never agree to be kissed by anyone but me, I called his bluff.

“Yeah, sure - it’s fine by me. If you can get her to go along, have at it,” I said with a confident chuckle.

He went in to make his move with my wife offering zero resistance. After a minute of deep, sensual tongue kissing, he cupped her chin and she started to moan. Several more minutes passed and that’s when it hit me: Their rhythm is too perfect for this to have been their first kiss.

Role Playing [Part V – the final chapter]

As more and more days passed since Steve and Kate and Brad had begun their role playing game, the roles they were no win seemed to be becoming more and more real even to Steve, to the degree that he now often forget that – legally at least – HE was the one married to Kate.  It had now been a couple of weeks since Steve had seen Kate and Brad, and his old life as her husband seemed almost foreign to him.  He had run into some old friends a few times, in stores or on the street, but they had obviously felt uncomfortable talking with him, which made his previous life seem even more distant and different from the role he was “playing” now.

After missing two Friday evening get togethers, Steve was expecting to visit Kate and Brad this coming Friday, and was desperately hoping that when he did, they could all agree that the game had gone on long enough.  Steve was certainly willing to say that he was fine with whatever had taken place between Kate and Brad during the game – having sex together, sharing the bedroom, socializing as a couple – but he was ready to go back to how things were before the game began.  But then, early that week, Steve got an email from Kate telling him that Friday was off for them because they were taking a five-day long weekend together in Vegas.  Going to Vegas for long weekend “flings” had been one of Kate and Steven’s special treats with each other, so it pained Steve to think that even that was now something where he was being replaced by Brad. But the, FINALLY, the following week, Kate sent Steve and email inviting him to visit on Friday.  She even said in the email that she and Brad would have something special to say on Friday – which, to Steve, obviously meant that they were ready to end the role playing and everything would then get back to “normal”.

When Steve arrived and what had been his and Kate’s house – but which now had basically become Kate and Brad’s house – he was surprised to see a lot of cars already there.  When he went inside, the place was full with all the people who had been Steve and Kate’s friends – but who had, for the past month, been friends with Kate and Brad – along with Kate’s parents and Brad’s sisters and parents.  Everyone got a little quiet when they saw the Steve had arrived, and mostly just whispered after that, without anyone seeming to want to talk with Steve, who stood awkwardly and anxiously by himself.  He was grateful, therefore, when just a few minutes after he arrived, Kate and Brad called everyone into the living and asked them to stand around them in circle.  Then, with Kate and Brad holding hands and looking into each others’ eyes with looks of intense love, Kate told the assembled that while they were in Vegas she had gotten a divorce, and then – almost before Steve had really processed the meaning of what she had said – Brad got down on one knee in front of Kate, took out a ring, and took her hand and put the ring on her finger and asked her to marry him.  Kate immediately said yes …yes …YES – and everyone there (except for Steve) broke out in spontaneous applause.

As people gathered round to congratulate the happy couple, Brad then said that there was MORE.  After giving Kate a huge hug and long loving kiss, he again got on one knee in front of her and gave her a kiss on the belly, and Kate said – “AND I’m pregnant”.  Once again, everyone there (except for Steve) cheered and applauded, and Steve noticed that Kate’s mom and Brad’s mom were standing together and both had tears of happiness in their eyes. 

Steve now realized that his continued presence there would not be appreciated, so he quietly started to leave.  But Kate noticed him, and called out to him to stop – saying that there was something she wanted to say to him.  What flashed through Steve’s mind at that point was that she was going to say something kind to him – perhaps an apology.  He was wrong.  “Steve” she said when she reached him.  “I just want you to know that I have always loved Brad, even from before when you and I got married.  For me, he always has been "the one”.“  That news didn’t exactly make Steve feel better, and in fact, a tear or two started to go down his face as he turned away from Kate and started to leave again.  "Wait, Steve” Kate then said.  “Before you go – one more thing.   Brad is selling his house, so we need you to move out by tomorrow."  Now Steve felt completely overwhelmed and he started to really cry.  "B..but Kate.  Where can I go?  Can I come back here – to, uh, to our house.  Since, well, since it really is half mine, isn’t it?”.   Kate’s answer was basically the final blow.  “No, Steve, it’s not.  During the past few weeks I’ve been putting everything in my name and in Brad’s name, and according to the divorce decree, you get nothing.  Good bye."  And with that, Steve left, never to see Kate again.
