what is astral projection and how is it connected to shifting? (sourced information)

astral projection

noun

a supernatural phenomenon in which a person’s astral body is said to separate from the physical body and travel to or in a different plane of existence. (dictionary.com)

The term was first recorded between 1885 and 1890.

"The idea comes from a 19th century mystical system called theosophy which claims that we have seven bodies from the lowest physical to the highest spiritual and mental bodies," Dr Susan Blackmore told HowStuffWorks during an interview. (Astral projection: Facts and theories, Callum McKelvie, Benjamin Radford, February 25, 2022)

According to Wikipedia, astral projection takes up some type of form in the following religions: Kemetism (Ancient Egyptian), Animism/Shamanism (Amazon, Inuit), Hinduism, Shinto (Japanse), Taoism (Taoist), Judaism, Christianity, and Western esotericism.

The idea of astral travel is ancient and occurs in multiple cultures. The term "astral projection" was coined and promoted by 19th-century Theosophists. It is sometimes associated with dreams and forms of meditation. (Astral Projection, Wikipedia)

"what is western esotericism?" (can skip)

Western esotericism is used as an umbrella term for a wide variety of historical traditions that were traditionally neglected in academic research but have been moved to the foreground in recent years. These include “gnostic,” Hermetic, or theurgical currents in late antiquity, the so-called “occult sciences” (astrology, alchemy, magic), Jewish and Christian kabbalah1, theosophy, Rosicrucianism2, illuminism3, occultism4, spiritualism5, and related trends in modern and contemporary culture such as new age and occulture. (University of Amsterdam)

1 a form of Jewish mysticism that focuses on understanding the hidden, secret knowledge and meaning within Jewish tests and practices2 the belief that its members possess secret wisdom that was handed down to them from ancient times. 3 belief in or claim to a personal enlightenment not accessible to humankind in general 4 the study and pursuit of hidden knowledge, often aimed at achieving spiritual insight or personal power 5 a system of belief or religious practice based on supposed communication with the spirits of the dead, especially through mediums

"what is theosophy?"

theosophy, occult movement originating in the 19th century with roots that can be traced to ancient Gnosticism and Neoplatonism. The term theosophy, derived from the Greek theos (“god”) and sophia (“wisdom”), is generally understood to mean “divine wisdom.” Theosophical writers hold that there is a deeper spiritual reality and that direct contact with that reality can be established through intuition, meditation, revelation, or some other state transcending normal human consciousness. (theosophy, editors of Encyclopedia of Britannica, J. Gordan Melton, May 9, 2025)

In esotericism, astral projection (also known as astral travel, soul journey, soul wandering, spiritual journey, spiritual travel) is an intentional out-of-body experience (OBE) in which a subtle body, known as the astral body or body of light through which consciousness functions separately from the physical body, travels throughout the astral plane. (Astral Projection, Wikipedia)

Most people see astral projection as a method to shift, there are countless posts about it on forums, some I will list below if you would like to read for yourself.

There isn't much talk about astral projection, but it is the sister of shifting and can be used as a method of shifting. I've heard talk of waiting rooms, and astral projection can be used as a waiting room as well.

There are so many possibilities regarding shifting because shifting is limitless. Recently I've had an out of body experience right after shifting/manifesting, which I now believe to have been astral projection.

Update: I have learned something new, astral projection is when, "...your consciousness fully leaves your body and floats around this reality." (@callsigndio , commented).

So what I experiences was likely the void state, which I will be doing more research on tomorrow!

hi angels! ₊˚⊹♡ i’m thinking of expanding my “NEUROSCIENCE OF LOA/SHIFTING” series to explore the science of loa/shifting in GENERAL—not just neuroscience, but also quantum physics, consciousness research, etc. 🥹

Hi Angels! ₊˚⊹♡ I’m Thinking Of Expanding My “NEUROSCIENCE OF LOA/SHIFTING” Series To Explore

  . ★⋆. ࿐࿔ ✦ . .   ˚ .ੈ✧̣̇˳·˖

especially since concepts from quantum physics are increasingly being applied to neuroscience to better understand and even predict complex brain phenomena (things classical models can’t fully explain or account for.) 🤭

i’ve been diving deep into the quantum foundations of consciousness and how both neuroscience and quantum physics offer powerful evidence for reality shifting + limitless manifestation through the law of assumption.

it’s SO exciting to see how these ideas are supported not just philosophically, but through experimentally-grounded, cutting-edge science. 🥹🫶 i’d love to share this with you all!!

stop treating shifting as this huge great freaky thing.

it’s NORMAL. you’ve been doing this shit for years by now, even right after you were born.

it should be something casual to you, not some thing you force and obsess over.

decide where you want to go and let it come to you naturally.

remember that it’s something so damn normal, you just forgot about it for a while, but now you remembered and that’s what matters.

having difficulty believing in shifting or LOA? this is why

did you know that our brains tend to protect us from new and unfamiliar information due to how they evolved?

this behavior stems from several biological and cognitive mechanisms, which can be explained by the following terms:

i. cognitive ease & the cognitive miser theory:

our brains prefer to stick to familiar patterns and ideas because they require less mental effort to process. this is known as cognitive ease. when something is easy to understand or familiar, it feels more comfortable and trustworthy. this is also something that helps us conserve mental energy, which was vital for survival in ancestral environments.

psychologists also describe humans as "cognitive misers" meaning that we often take shortcuts and avoid using unnecessary cognitive effort unless it's absolutely necessary. that's why learning or accepting new ideas can feel tiring or even uncomfortable because it forces the brain to work harder and reorganize familiar frameworks.

so when you're introduced to something completely new, like the concept of shifting realities, your brain might try very hard to resist it. not because it's fake, but because it's so unfamiliar that it challenges your deeply imbedded mental patterns. this can feel like confusion, skepticism or denial as you often see w/ anti-shifters.

ii. identity protection cognition:

another important mechanism is called identity-protective cognition. when new information threatens a belief tied to your worldview or sense of self, the brain reacts defensively. so even if the information isn't necessarily dangerous, it can still trigger emotional discomfort because it challenges who you think you are and what you believe is possible.

this is the reason why some people react strongly or dismissively when they first hear about shifting. if an idea challenges something you deeply believe to be true, people might even reject it—even if there's evidence, because our emotional reaction often matters more than if the information is factual or not.

evolutionary roots:

these tendencies of ours are rooted in evolutionary psychology. avoiding unfamiliar things often meant avoiding danger for our ancestors. familiar environments and behaviors felt safe, while uncertain situations could be risky. as a result, our brains are wired to prefer what's known and predictable.

this is also why habitual thought patterns become so deeply engrained, because they were once crucial for survival. changing them can therefore take a lot of effort and time because it requires rewiring our neural pathways, which the brain doesn't do lightly.

so whenever you find yourself doubting shifting or feeling overwhelmed by the thought of it, remember that it's just your brain doing what it evolved to do, which is keeping you alive and safe!

ugh UNIVERSE i need to have a talk with my nonna, please–👀–if you're listening–👀–i'm here ☕️–👀...

I was in the astral realm and I had a talk with my great grandma and she pretty much re assured how real shifting is. She told me how much more we are capable of and blames society for dimming that little light that once made us literally invincible.

She took me through different timelines, and I actually got to see myself in different versions from a librarian to even a politician. And she told me that it isn't really hard to attain it because it's within me, its literally me but just scattered in different dimensions and that becoming it can be as easy as snapping your fingers, if you only look within.

She has reincarnated as a white woman ( this made me laugh my ass off tbh) mostly because she had other dreams she wanted to achieve that she couldn't in this timeline.

She also found it funny that people are shifting to go to books and tv shows instead of shifting to realities where they are like millionaires or something😂 but what I adore about her is how open and lovely she is. Even when she was alive, you could tell her anything and she would always give you an ear to listen.

Reality is within you, look within.. that's where all your answers are

"...it is something you allow..." i love this quote

stop focusing on your senses

 Stop Focusing On Your Senses
 Stop Focusing On Your Senses
 Stop Focusing On Your Senses

when shifting, your physical senses are the last to shift! when you’re hyper-aware of your body, you could be anchoring yourself to your current reality.

let go.

detach from the need to feel immediate sensations and trust the process. you are in control.

focus on your intention, not on whether you ‘feel’ it happening. this is why i like to make it clear that not everyone feels physical symptoms, and that is okay!!! shifting is about aligning your consciousness, not forcing physical proof.

remind yourself: you are already shifting. every thought, every visualization, every moment spent in alignment with your desired reality brings you closer.

release the need for validation. your experience is valid, whether or not you feel tingles, heaviness, or detachment. trust in your mind’s power.

shifting isn’t something you have to ‘catch’ happening - it’s something you allow to unfold.

 Stop Focusing On Your Senses

a/n; if anyone has any idea of what they would like me to make a post about, go ahead and use my asks <3

HOW I SHIFTED FOR THE FIRST TIME

HOW I SHIFTED FOR THE FIRST TIME

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. For some context, no, this isn't literally my first time shifting (we shift all the time, remember?) as I've shifted to countless parallel realities and a couple random realities. However, this was the first time I shifted to a reality where it was supposedly fictional (MHA).

So, what did I do?

This. Exactly what I'm doing right now.

You see, every time I was going to bed or idle with my thoughts (doing chores, walking, etc), I would imagine myself writing a success story or telling a friend (luv you @vixilic) about my successful shift. I'd think about how I'd decorate it, how I'd word my sentences, the feeling I'd get from it, things like that. In the time between my last post and now, I had managed to shift by (mainly) doing that.

Before you say, "Isn't that similar to the xyz method/a combination of abc and qrs?" Congratulations! You know so much that you can actually see the different aspects of Loa/shifting being applied. I'm not gonna pretend like I invented this approach, but it is what worked for me (and perhaps for you too).

So, for those who want a coherent, step by step guide on how to do this, look below:

1. Pick a reference Pick something that you're going to base your visualisation off of. Are you going to tell a shifting friend? Your favourite blog? What about writing your own post? Don't stress, you can use more than one

2. Do the damn visualisation Everyday, imagine what it'd be like to tell your success story. What did you do during the day? How were the people in that reality like? How did it feel? Were you nervous, excited, scared? Do this when you wake up and when you're going to sleep. Bonus points for doing this at other times too.

3. Relax This doesn't have to be an instantaneous method and you may not see "results" right away. The whole reason I started doing this in the first place is because I'm pretty busy with school currently and I wanted to do something related to shifting which I didn't have to think about much. Hell, that shift happened on a night where I had no plans, I didn't "try", I just wanted to sleep 😭

Tips:

- this can be compounded with other methods if you wish: subliminals, robotic affirmations, sats, etc - don't stress if your visualisation isn't perfect, feeling is much more key here - on that note, don't try and force a "feeling" either. maybe you're overthinking it or just not in the mood, you don't have to literally feel it - go with the flow and personalise this to yourself. this is a Tumblr post, not a military boot camp - this can be applied to more than just shifting, too

Special thanks to the following creators who really helped me get out of a shifting slump recently: @scentedpeachlandcreator @hrrtshape @h1biscusgal (and @premiumbitch too but they deactivated 💔)
