yo wtf i love this
bank heist AU
Vi the woman that you are
Bad jokes HATE to see Vi R. Cane coming
Incorrect arcane texts pt.3 bitches
PLZ IM CRYING
This is so facts, and this kinfa touches on why i dont totally love the addition og isha. I should, right, bc omg cute kid, but she feels like too much of a plot device to supposedly “fix” jinx. The way Vander usually fails to acknowledge Mylo and Clag kinda sucks. Ik its bc we judt didnt get to see em much in canon and it surely happened, just off screen, but its sad.
I feel like I need to talk about this scene. It bothers me not just for personal reasons but for plot reasons as well. I briefly touched on why I despise it so much but I'll elaborate properly, hopefully without being too repetitive.
The girls both quote Mylo that Vander is "their dad too", and yet mention of the boys is completely absent. But it has to be absent, or we might have to be reminded of the entire reason the girls' brothers are dead to begin with: Jinx and Silco both. Because Jinx accidentally killed them, because Silco abducted their dad. And let's be real, Vi and Jinx never had a single meaningful conversation about anything in s2. Everything they went through, all the changes they made, all the people they lost, amounting to a Disneyfied reunion with their werewolf dad. Add the extra layer of irritation of adding Isha, as if she belongs there, as if she's some sort of cheap replacement for the brothers they lost.
Maybe it also speaks to why Jinx doesn't come off as even half as unwell as she was in s1; her hallucinations were Mylo-heavy and they might have to be brought up if she was still having chronic episodes. But no, her replacement family of a small child basically heals her.
I personally feel the complete omission of Mylo and Claggor is disgraceful and downright lazy (but that's s2 in a nutshell). They were Vi and Jinx's brothers, Vander's sons. The loss of them is basically irrelevant in this entire season outside of ep7, where not even Ekko shares a single word with either of the boys, who only get three lines each, who only talk at him. It's like saying "hey look they're alive here, how nice" before pushing them to the side again to make more room for timebomb.
Yes I'm biased because Mylo and Claggor are everything to me, but it's still very much a flaw in the writing not to even mention their names whatsoever. It's not as if their being mentioned would derail the story - it could be sprinkled in when/where necessary, to be touched on. Their presences were still felt throughout s1 long after their deaths but they're irrelevant easter eggs in s2. But seeing as how their were basically two whole writers left in the room for s2, it's not all that surprising either.
Broken record that I am: Mylo and Claggor deserved better.
goddamit i love them--
chase: Can we stop at mcdonald's?
zari: Devineaux we have food at home
chase, crying: I hate this fucking family
Spoilers for chapters one and two of Dear Pirate Across the Sea by jinxedbypow on Ao3. Not bothering with alt text because you can read it much better described in the actual fic :p

Love Gray but this and the ending in general pmo so bad. Also would like to add that “ACME” dropping in and doing the thing Carmen has dedicated years of her life to fighting in one full swoop doesnt get talked about enough…like can u imagine how she mustve felt about that? Nothing ab that ending was happy for Carmen. I mean, she has to sit with the realization that she spent 6 months as a living manifest of everything she hated, is forced to contend with the fact that she probably killed ppl, has to see her life goal fulfilled mostly by someone else, AND feels the need to leave her found family behind because she thinls thats the best thing she can do for them as she doesnt deserve to be arpund them. And then she runs off to Argentina like meeting her mom will magically fix all of these giant bleeding bullet wounds in her mental health and heart.
In spite of being supposedly “women-led” and centered around female empowerment, Carmen Sandiego’s most well written snd complex characters apart from Carmen herself are Chase Devineaux, Gray Calloway, and Shadowsan. Like that is absolutely ridiculous. Your show thats marketed for its brown female lead actually sidelines said lead to prop up 3 male characters, 2 of which are white? (This is not a diss btw - i enjoy all 3 of these characters and i am NOTTT saying white and/or male characters dont deserve to be written well. Just understand that one of this shows selling point was brown female lead soooo the mental gymnastics to ignore that and prop up characters who dont fit that well at all ks low key wild.
i love gray he is my favorite
never will shut up abt him
BUT i can never get over this show having him being the reason vile is exposed. HOW DO YOU EVEN WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THAT
the show is called carmen sandiego but not even the titular main character, who has devoted EVERYTHING we see of her in the show to taking down vile, takes it down. Not even her found family takes it down in her place, to show that the bonds forged with people outside of your controlling family can leave such an amazing impact. NOT EVEN ACME TAKES VILE DOWN. like i wouldve preferred maybe julia and chase going behind chief's back to use acme resources to do their own investigation, but still, to not even have the organization built on stopping vile get that moment is insane.
hell maybe even carmen's old classmates defecting slowly could be worth something thematically
yeah no lets have the guy who was literally
a) meant to be the narrative vehicle for carmen to info dump the backstory in the first episode and intended to be written out
b) was bonked in the head with amnesia and only made a brief reappearance in one ep is s1 and an ep in s2 and no speaking lines in "s3"
c) had a focus in the first half of s4 which ended with him picking vile in the end only to have another change of heart the moment he returns as an antag in the final two eps
be the guy responsible for leaking vile to acme. no high stake rescue mission or final heist or deep investigation. nope just some guy tattle tale-ing lol to bring down an entire criminal organization.
yay female empowerment (jk kinda this show is good at writing female characters as just normal characters but it does greatly rub me the wrong way that carmen get side-lined in the finale of her own show by gray and shadowsan and yet the show claims to be empowering. easily could just be a writing issue tho and nothing to do with gender)
She/her - Writer (ao3 @AgraAFTERdark), yapper, bottom feeder. Sometimes i serious but mostly i shitpost.
