i haven't engaged with the fandom very much so idk if this is the common read of this or not but i'm OBSESSED with the way john changes characters names when he resurrects them and strips them of so much of their identity. gideon becoming kiriona, an attempt to connect her with heritage that has been dead for ten thousand years. but more than that, the lyctors. mercymorn, pyrrha, cytherea... those are fucking HOUSE NAMES! those aren't their names!! only referring to them by their initials when recounting their story to harrow... that's all that remains of who they once were. m----, a-----, these names are lost to time. john's the only one who knows them, and he doesn't even tell us. he is such a compelling villain
