i always find it interesting how most people think hajime is an idiot when the game isn't originally in english so, things that seem simple in english were purposely made difficult in japanese.

i also believe that octagon is another one of those things but correct me if im wrong!

The secret to the full game in Twilight Syndrome Murder Case was originally Japanese wordplay. Instead of just "Down five", it said "ごかいした", which can be read two different ways. If read as "誤解した", it means "you misunderstood". However, if read "五回下", it means "go down five times".

*ごかいした, 誤解した, and 五回下, can all be read as "gokaishita", which is why it can be confusing to interpret the meaning.
