When you are writing a character with trauma keep it balanced. Let's be honest, the plot were the characters parents die in a car accident is kinda boring. On the other hand, a character whos parents got struck by a lightning is just utterly stupid (unless you are writing fantasy and that incident is somehow related to someones super powers).
ALSO trauma is not only "dead parents" or "abusive alcoholic dad/mom". There are lots of different things that may form your characters the way they are right now. You can make a big issue and future trauma out of almost every situation.
Remember: don't give all your characters the same trauma. This is just impossible to happen in real life. (Unless all of them knew each other back then and all witnessed/were personally affected by that incident. Like in OMORI lol).
