Yknow in light of some Twitter discourse I’m seeing about AI in academia and the bleakness of education’s future— Something I’m really happy about regarding me coming back to tumblr as a social media platform is that, unlike a lot of other platforms, tumblr is very conducive to letting users think. There’s no text limit, imo there’s very little pressure to actually get notes/visibility. The fact that #long post is so commonly used is really cool to me because people get to engage with their thoughts, find the words to put those thoughts to paper, and share them. Tumblr to me has always been a place that encourages self-expression and sharing of information and meaningful collaboration between strangers’ ideas.
And honestly? In my own experience, I am forced to engage with media a lot differently than I would on Twitter. Doom scrolling on tumblr at least has me reading a 10k word post about niche entomology or a deep dive on how Prince Faris is a character foil to the Luminary (DQXI). You have the option to actually focus on the content you’re consuming instead of just mindlessly swiping through it.
TLDR; I think tumblr is uniquely geared towards creative thinking and that’s cool when so many other platforms are being enshittified
