52 years of Independence

My dad woke me up for Sahur and Akid kept waving the flashlight everywhere. The moving light can be very harsh to the eyes of someone who just woke up. Had cereal and several glasses of water for Sahur. Anyway, today marks the 52nd year of Malaysia's Independence. Malaysia has had its ups and downs. Um, I'm not sure what to say. I'm not the most patriotic person there is. Maybe its because Malaysia isn't my birth-country. Maybe it's because the mentality of most -- not all, MOST -- Malaysian's bugs me. I don't know. Maybe its everything rolled into one. But I'll still say Malaysia is a beautiful country. The holiday destinations in Malaysia are the best. And not just the well-known or popular ones either. For the traveler who takes the less beaten path, there are still many gems to be found. During the last 'summer break', I had a great time visiting historical sites with my dad. It was a lot of fun. The urban destinations -- KL in particular -- is no less impressive. The Petronas Twin Towers never fails to impress everyone who stands in its shadow. Be it tourist or citizen. I raise my hat up to Tun Dr Mahathir for doing an amazing job in modernizing Malaysia and putting it on the map. If Liyana were to find this she'd be nagging me for months saying she's found the Malaysian in me. I'd appreciate it so much if you didn't tell her, D. Thank you. I'd rather she stumble across this and delay her 'discovery' of the Malaysian in me

Missing my time in New York with my family. New York itself is a crazy yet exciting city to be in. Broadway shows are crazy expensive for the unaware. The Subways are surprisingly cheap. Protip: heed AirBnB host's words, "the subway platforms are ovens and the cars are fridges". I was genuinely sweating waiting for the subway, but freezing once aboard.
