One of the most essential things about Dark Academia to me is the reclaimation. Like there’s something powerful about mostly women, lgbt people, people of color, and low income people seeing a space to which we’re not entitled and saying “no we’re gonna take it”. Like the fact that the fashion is made of taking men’s thrift store clothes and the concept of finding our own interpretations of literature and art which go against Eurocentric academic norms.
