Ugh I hate how I can be so insecure/indecisive in my writing 😩

I’ll have an idea, but then I have to stop myself and contemplate; “Is that too fantastical? Will people not be able to enjoy the story if I add this?”. I understand I’m writing fanfiction, it’s all fantasy, so technically it’s all too fantastical, but I don’t want to push it too far, I don’t know.

Expect to see more of these random blurbs from me, wether I get responses or not. Think of it as a look inside my head 😵‍💫

The light dappled through the trees, and fell across the serpent's navy tail and bare torso. His eyes skimmed line by line, enraptured by the novel he was reading. The story tells of a deep attraction that befell between a human peasant and a royal naga—he wanted that, he wanted the love from the stories he read. Though, he'd never had a chance; being a hopeless romantic and pessimistic was rather hard for him to find his promised one, and as time passed he started to feel further dejected. Maybe he needed to ease off those stories, but it was not like he could. They were the ones who made his heart flutter and feel something, although he should still reevaluate his standards. He paused his reading, placing a dried russian sage as a bookmark, and absorbed his environment in. And there he spotted you, crunching below the grass. You didn't even notice him, you were fortuitous that he wasn't a belligerent naga. You were such a puny human, but he couldn't help to get those feelings like he did when reading those stories: the fuzzy feeling in his gut and chest and that giddy feeling. Perhaps he could make this into his love story. He slithered off the biggish rock and prowled towards you.

"What are you doing?"

You yelped and fell back, hiding behind your arms. You waited for what's to come but nothing did, you lowered your arms a bit and squinted fearfully at the dark haired creature.

"If you think I'm going to hurt you, I'm not. So you can remove your arms from your face, though it wouldn't do you any good anyways." He pointed out, smirking.

You rolled your eyes and let your arms fall, "I know that."

"Now again, what are you doing?"

"I was looking at some yarrow."

"Why?" He queried, observing the plant with you.

"It's used to treat digestive issues like ulcers, as well as enhance wound healing!"

He stared at you with heart-filled eyes, he could listen to you blather on about the plant endlessly; the way your voice was eager and passionate, like he was passionate and eager to find a mate.

"It could reduce symptoms of depre-”

"Can we be friends?"

Your mouth was gaped at the sudden interruption but soon closed with a feeble smile, "I guess we can but I'd like to know your name first."

"Call me Meelis."

"What a lovely name, I'm Y/N."

Meelis became flustered at the classic compliment and his words began to stammer, "Thank you and yours is even more lovely."

It was your turn to be blushful, and you were quick to turn that conversation.

"I noticed you like to read."

"Oh, yes I do!" Meelis agreed, staring down at the book and back at you.

"What's it about?"

"How about I read it to you?" He insisted, making a motion for you to follow him.

"I'd like that." You smiled, following him to the rock.

Since then, you two visited one another. You would purchase him a new novel every other week to read to himself and you, and together you both would scour for plants. Without even knowing, you became infatuated with Meelis like he was with you from the beginning. And one evening, you both were seated by the banks of a pond.

"Can I tell you something, Y/N?" Meelis asked, the tip of his tail swishing around in the cool waters. Every now and then he would have a fish come nip at it but then get frightened.

"Of course."

Meelis averted his eyes from yours, "I've got feelings for you."

"Like the l-o-v-e feelings?"

"Yes." he laughed, coming closer to you.

"Well I love you too," You beamed.

He couldn't control his electrified nerves, and so he tackled you down to the ground. Adoring your face with kisses, until it ended on your lips—now he could live happily ever after.

THE START OF SOMETHING AMAZING

You stared into nothingness, tuning in the gentle sighs of the trees and the trilling of rain frogs, before comprehending the gloomy skies. Your breath in the petrichor smells and let the tepid breeze flutter through your now unruly hair—it was rather serene. You took your bags from the dampened ground and approached the aged cottage, your stomach was already churning with the feeling of anticipation. Your hand takes the knob and effortlessly the door gives away.

“It was unlocked!?” You thought, easing past the door and heaving as dust wafts you in the face. You glanced over the place, spotting the furniture that was covered by worn sheets. You grab a fist full of a sheet and jerk it away, unveiling a vintage sofa.

“Wow.” You awed quietly, running your fingers along the velvety cushion. You settled down on the edge of the sofa, trying out the comfiness of it. You then laid back and rested your head, pleased. Exhaling, you aroused from your spot and dragged your bags closer to you. You probed around your bags, fetching your journal and utensils.

You pulled the door shut behind you, giving it an extra tug to ensure the door stayed closed. You neared closer to the forest, stopping at the verge, and gaped up at the continuous canopy of trees. You had overheard many tales from your colleagues about this seemingly normal woodland, one of them being about a man who was drunkenly dared to enter the forest by one of his buddies. When the man reappeared from the forest, he was shaken with fear and his lips were trembling as his fumble out the same words incessantly: “it’s coming for me, that damned winged creature, it’s gonna fucking kill me!”

Your reasoning for being here wasn’t just to figure out what unworldly beings that the forest withhold, maybe you were considerably curious, but you wanted to discover an uncommon mushroom that was rumored by many of your colleagues. Its appearance is of an ink cap mushroom, though its color differs and is bluish with hints of magenta, and it possessed many healing properties. From what you read, it was given the name Polifious Pinian.  

 Even with those ominous stories being told, you were unbothered, and were ready to embrace whatsoever the forest threw at you so you could make that rumor true. Without a shadow of hesitation, you began your foraging. The fungi was known to grow at the roots of pines. So you lingered around them, inspecting their roots for any indications of spores.

The sky was already gloaming and thus far there were no indicators. Your shoulders slouched and just before you were about to return to the cottage, a glimmer caught your eye. You wandered over to the object, it resemble a tiara. It appeared to be crafted from limbs and leaves that protruded from the head piece, it was also accompanied by a pearl embedded in waned silver.  

‘Swoosh!’ 

You Flinched, stumbling onto your bottom. “W-what the-” 

Your eyes skimmed your vicinity, though you didn’t see anything but you could feel it. You slowly turned, your skin prickling at the eerie tension, expecting to see two other eyes but still there was nothing—not even an critter. You pushed yourself from the ground, snatching the tiara up, and darted in the direction of the cottage. Whispers then began to swarm you, clouding your senses in a way. 

“Give it back, girl!” 

You yanked the front door open, slamming it shut hastily, and yet those insistent words remained in in the back of your mind. You crouched down and you covered your ear with your hands. 

“Shut up. Shut up. Shut up!” You repeacted, your murmuring voice coming to shout. 

In that position, you resided trying to ease your pounding heart and shallow breaths. You raised from the hardwood floor and creeped towards the kitchen; taking a glass and filling it with water and ice. Your trembling hand brings the glass to your lips and you took couple of swigs of it, somehow it diminished the adrenaline and anxieties. You then sat the cup down and left to the bedroom, ending your night without being the prey.

♡ My name is Ariana, but I don’t really like my full name so any nickname will do ヽ(￣～￣　)ノ. The most common one is Ari. ♡ I use she/her pronouns and I’m a cishet female.  ♡ I am Puerto Rican and have many generations of my family live on land in Aguadilla, Ponce,  San Juan, and  San Sebastián.
