doctor who coming back in the year of 2023 when terfism and biological essentialism and transphobia are on the rise and making one of THE most hyped up episodes by bringing back fan favorites david tennant and catherine tate. all about being trans

showing rose being bullied and her grandma struggling to get it right but still being supportive. and shaun and donna being the greatest parents by being ready to burn the world down to protect their daughter. the doctor asking for the meep's pronouns AND IT'S NORMAL???

and all of that is brilliant to see rose as a trans character and it is important to the narrative. BUT THEN. ROSE BEING TRANS SAVES DONNA'S LIFE BY TAKING HALF OF THE METACRISIS. BECAUSE THE DOCTOR IS MALE AND FEMALE AND NEITHER AND MORE. AND THAT IS INTEGRAL TO DOCTOR WHO AS A WHOLE. and it saved donna's life

to see doctor who be so BLATANTLY trans and nonbinary at the core of the series. the multiple references to the fact that before fourteen, thirteen was a woman. so to see this? trans people stay winning. thank you doctor who for doubling down on the importance of the doctor being trans because oh my god I am so emotional about this

Theory about the creatures from Wild Blue Yonder: when you exist at the edges of the universe and/or a desolate difficult-to-survive place, there are certain forms that are more likely to emerge. That form just happens to be beings who struggle to understand the rules that the rest of the universe, be that dimensions or constancy or psychological complexity, and use mimicking as a method to learn how our world works.

So what I'm saying here is that while the creatures in Midnight, Flatline, and Wild Blue Yonder are not the same species, they have the same tendency to drift towards a category of forms. It's convergent evolution (distinct origin sources developing similar features due to similar survival needs).

his ampharos is his pokepartner, the mareep it once was had stumbled into his little town as a kid

he wore a key stone around his neck as a necklace and the mareep had a mega stone

raised his whole team from babies, high friendship level with all of them

his team: sunflora, tsareena, roserade, jumpluff, bellossom, abomasnow

the bellossom dances with him

his gym has a lot of tall grass that is not allowed to be cut down

he likes to think his abomasnow is a wild card

a super nice gym leader and always is down for rematches if the pokemon trainer calls his pokénav

he gets energy from his pokemon since he, figuratively, the sun to his pokemon

water type leader

his team: magikarp, kingler, greninja, slowking, lapras, milotic

king of CRABS

once wanted to become a pokemon professor (interned for prof oak, hence the kanto badges)

the magikarp he caught (before he broke his fishing rod) and he just wants a really cool gyrados ok

likes to make you rethink your life choices when he pulls out specific moves

his team: alolan ninetails, delibird, glalie, cubchoo, avalugg, vanilluxe

his gym is like that ice maze in the sootopolis (gen 3)/mahogany (gen 2) gyms

can charm you and melt your heart even though his gym is literally freezing cold

taehyung

dark type trainer

his team: absol, mawile, houndoom, shiftry, tyranitar, hydreigon

his pokemon are actually the sweetest little things

his absol is very cuddly and his mawile always looks out for the others before itself

but in battle its completely different, theyre very strong and very evil

his gym is completely dark and you have to use flash in order to get through

if not you fall down holes

jungkook

fighting type gym leader

his team: hitmonchan, lucario, pangoro, poliwrath, medicham, mienshao

his pokemon all specialize in agility and evasiveness

essentially, theyre speedy and strong

helps jungkook pull pranks sometimes

he trains with his pokemon so theyre all as fit as him

the poliwrath was a gift from namjoon (his idol) and when he met him he was so starstruck that he wanted to become a gym leader too

dogcoded characters where they're loyal because everything else has been taken from them and they're desperately clinging onto any sense of purpose or meaning they can grasp. dogcoded because they're willingly made into a pet doing tricks for the ones that own them and they're aware of it all and embrace it. dogcoded where they could be sent to the shelter at any time but feels like they never will, because they're a big strong dog who attacks just right, hurts the right people, and doesn't recoil when they're pet or punished. dogcoded where they obey because if they don't the world is dark and cold and empty. dogcoded where they're trained to move on command, to sniff out downfalls and cracks in strength and manipulate them with their nails, all for the ones they heel to. when will i stop talking

objectively speaking that was a copout. a little fix-it fic loophole so Russel didn't have to get rid of his favorite guy again. and I recognize that. but seeing as he happens to also be my favorite guy, I don't think I care
