Dite (reader)
Night had fallen, but Dite found herself unable to sleep. After making a rather pathetic attempt at it, only managing to nearly fall off her hammock from all the tossing and turning, Dite had just gotten up and dragged Jongho, who was on babysitting duty, outside to the deck.
Yunho had noticed the two coming out from the belowdecks, waving at them from his spot in the crow’s nest and told them to come up. Thus, the three of them now sat there, Dite sandwiched between the two men. They were still in the hot heart of the summer, so the night was warm. She felt the bare skin of her legs sticking to the wood she sat on — it had been so hot she had decided to forgo from wearing pants. The shirt she wore, probably belonging to one of the male crew members, was so long it reached her mid-thigh anyway. A warm breeze blew into the ship’s sails and tousled her hair gently.
Despite the serenity of the night, Dite’s thoughts were reeling. The words the soul fragment in the Tear had spoken had returned to her in the aftermath of the confrontation with the navy officer. She couldn’t wrap her head around the meaning of the words. Not mine, it had said. Of course, Dite knew she differed from her family in aspects other than her outer appearance. She just hadn’t expected those differences to be so major that her own supposed goddess wouldn’t claim her.
