WE'RE SO CLOSE WEEEEEEE
(Notice anything goin on with those stars? Anyone?... HELLO?!)
The thing about the “you wear fine things well” scene is like. Let’s take this from Ed’s perspective.
You’re the meanest sonofabitch on the seven seas. Everybody knows your name. You reputation alone can win the day before you even fire a shot.
And you are fuckin bored.
So bored that the instant you get wind of some weirdo who appears to not be even a little impressed by you, you run to meet him. And by god, the first thing he says to you and your lustrous black beard is: “Do you work for Blackbeard?”
It immediately rotates your worldview. “Never thought of it like that before. Yeah, I suppose I do.”
But then he tells you about retirement. And you think, yeah. Yeah, actually, that sounds great. How do I do that?
Well, a fuckery of course! A good one, too. Something worthy of Blackbeard, with a tiger or something. But the important part is that there’s a corpse—the corpse of a man you made sure is similar enough to you in height and build to wear your clothes.
So now you’ve got a plan. You’re great at plans! And all you have to do is learn how to be a fancy ponce so you can go live the fancy ponce retirement of your dreams. Easy as that. How hard can it be to learn how to use silverware?
But it all goes wrong, doesn’t it? Catastrophically wrong. You struggle with the basics because you panic, and when’s the last time you panicked? Then you’re laughed out of a room by people who would wet themselves if they knew who you really are, and it occurs to you, suddenly, miserably, that if you go through with this, if you choose this life, you will never have that crutch again, because Blackbeard will be dead.
Worst of all, though, is the blooming doubt that this is what you want. This glittering world is meant to be your scrap of silk writ large. You’re not sure if it is, any more. You’re not sure if a world like that exists.
Now what?
Well. Now, along comes this silly man. You wrote him off as naïve because why else would he ever want to be a part of your world? Why would he claim he wanted to be “like Blackbeard” when he has his secret passages and model ships and summer linens? But you’ve seen what he’s running away from, now. You’ve seen he’s as much a master of that world as you are of yours. And you feel understood. You feel like an equal.
So when he tells you in the moonlight that you belong with that piece of silk, and it belongs with you, you believe, suddenly, that there’s a place in the middle, between your worlds, where you’re still yourself but you wear silk and eat marmalade and talk to handsome men in the moonlight. And Stede fits there, too.
Cool, ty, it is just a hc, then
I was confused bc people were saying he was illiterate like it's a fact and I wanted to know if I'd missed something
But really he just can't write and we don't know the reason why- could be loss of fingers, could be he was never taught
If he could write but no longer can because he struggles to hold a brush, I wouldn't count that as illiteracy
C-can I ask where the idea that Sanemi is illiterate came from?
Is it that comment about how he can't write to Tanjirou at the end??
Because I'm pretty sure that's due to the loss of his right index and middle fingers... he just can't hold a brush anymore-
I'm pretty sure his crow (or maybe Kiriya I can't recall) says he enjoys reading Tanjirou's letters, but can't write back
Learning to use his left hand would be really hard and he's probably embarrassed about it, that's what I took it to mean
Just reminder:

If people started communicating in Jackson’s Diary almost all of their problems would’ve been solved like I love how the story portrays how messy teens can be but damn some times a simple conversation could end all the fighting. The only character I think started to learn how to communicate is Pamela.
eat drink sleep play
I am 99% sure Henry is trans and that’s why his parents are bias, because they don’t really understand and are sort of transphobic but trying.
I also think that Ralph is very supportive and helped Henry with a new outfit when he came out (because he’s a bit of a designer).
I think that Margaret used to be Henry’s best friend but never got over his coming out, and that’s why she sort of hates him.
And I agree that that’s why his great aunt Greta calls him Henrietta.
Unhinged rant
So did Zenitsu. Nezuko is all he can talk and think about. His first scene is him literally begging a girl to marry him.
Tengen constantly talks about his wives and his love for them. A love so great that it is the main driving force behind ALL of his major life decisions. He left his toxic family because of them, he joined the Corps because of them, he decided to retire and left the Corps because of them. He has stated how they're his main reason for living, and how he considers their wellbeing and importance above his.
Tamayo is Yushiro's entire world, so much so that he's content being absolutely devoted to this woman and her goals, even though he knows that she's still in love with her husband. He's just content with being by her side and supporting her in everything, even if it goes against his best interests.
Obanai literally teleported 3 feet because he got a letter from Mitsuri and proceeds to read it with the ferocity of a lovesick teen who just got a text back. He's shown to be utterly in love with her and cares about her wellbeing and comfort.
The main cause of Giyuu's depression is because Sabito, his first love, died! And one of the things that brings him out of it is the thought of making and giving Sanemi, his new crush, his favorite food.
Yorichii, the strongest character in KnY, just wanted to have a family with the love of his life, Uta. His very first proper introduction has him holding a baby, FOR SUCKS SAKE!! We don't even see his expression because the yearning was that deep! When a character in KnY is framed from the back, you know the emotion is strong.
Genya is always flustered and horny when he's in the same airspace as or even thinks about a girl.
Hakuji not only took care of Koyuki but loved her so much that it permeates through his BDA as Akaza even though his memory was wiped. His soul remembers and honors her even if his mind doesn't.
The main reason Gyutaro hated Uzui was because he's a chad and was getting hoes.
Shinjuro Rengoku had a decade-long crashout because Rika died.
But yea no, let's shit on this ONE female character for the crime of wanting love and a family. Just say you hate women and go.
tbh in some cases calling my projects "wips" kinda feels like a joke, because it implies that it's actually "in progress" rather than being a thing that plagues my brain every once in a while.
