“We became like brothers, very close. […] [George] was a very, very loving person, a great guy. […] He had such a heart. […] He was very unaffected by the fame. He just loved God and his family and his friends.” - Billy Preston, WBUR, November 30, 2001 “[When The Beatles first met Billy Preston in Hamburg] Billy was so young George said you could hardly see his head over the Hammond organ. They had a connection — like brothers. His mother used to call George her paler son.” - Olivia Harrison, Concert for George ltd. ed. book “[Billy] used to play with George a lot in his studio at home in England and he had Billy’s [Hammond] B3. We just called it ‘Billy’s B3.’ Billy would sit and dance on that seat and on the pedals of that organ. He really did. His seat would just dance across there, he was just amazing. Such a sweet man. So gentle and what a talent. He had absolute fluidity on that organ and on any keyboard really.” - Olivia Harrison, Billboard, April 3, 2017 “[George is] a very emotional guy; he’s very spiritual and sensitive. He’s a very kind-hearted person. […] We feel like we’re together all the time, just through spirit.” - Billy Preston, Ticket To Ride: A Celebration Of The Beatles (1989) “[Billy Preston]’s a tremendous inspiration to work with.” - George Harrison, Disc & Music Echo, July 5, 1969 “Billy Preston, man — Billy Preston, I just love him. I never wanna play in another band without Billy. I mean, I hope I don’t ever have to.” - George Harrison, KLOL, November 1974

My headcanon about The Lovers That Never Were is that Paul pulls a No Words situation. Like in No Words -where he inserts a deeply personal thing we later (way after the fact) find that it was something John used to say to him- Paul throws in TLTNW phrases that are not his but Johns. Like, for instance, "if we can't be lovers we'll never be friends", that sounds sooo much like something 67/68 (specially 68) John would say. That kind of black/white yes/no relationship breaker.
But at the same time, the protagonist of TLTNW complains that the other person is running away from him and does not answer anymore, as if that person had thrown the stone and then hidden his hand, as if he did not want to take charge of the situation that he himself started. And that also feels like John hiding behind other people or not going to face to face meetings.
Anyway, TLTNW, nice vocals.

George Harrison and Ringo Starr talking about filming Help! (1965) in The Beatles Anthology (1995)
George: We had fun in those days [...] It's difficult when four people all have to say lines, you know, one behind the other, and, you know, if one person forgets it, you've got to start again, and then the next person'd forget his lines, and we did some scenes... the scenes that were in Buckingham Palace, in Help... (laughs) we were doing that scene for days... you know, where they put some, there was some pipe with some red smoke comes through, you know, and we shove it out the window and all the guards fall over... that scene, it just went on forever, you know, and we were just in stitches, just in hysterics, laughing. And we pushed Dick Lester I think to the limit of his... because he was very, very easy-going, he was a pleasure to work with
Ringo: There's one scene in the film, where Victor Spinetti and whoever else was in the scene, and they're doing that curling... you know, those big stones they do... and one of them of course has a bomb in it! We find out about this, 'oh, it's gonna blow up', and we have to run, we have to run away... Well, Paul and I ran about seven miles... (laughing)... we just ran, and ran, so we could stop and have a joint, and come back. We were just off! You know, we'd run to Switzerland.
