working memory bad š
It pisses me off because Ruby was totally okay with her and Otis just being casual and it was him that forced her to open up. He basically asked her to make their relationship more personal and to stop hiding him. And she literally did. She pushed away her ego and made them official. She ignored the clothing rules she had with her friends so Otis could feel more comfortable in her environment. She introduced him to her dad something she has never done before and also very personal to her. He made her do all of that, made her become vulnerable only for him to do this to her. And no, he wasnāt obligated to say ily back, but he shouldāve had the decency to commit because the one that asked for exclusivity was him. Of course Ruby wasn't going to come back to having a casual relationship with him after she opened herself up to him in the hopes of him maybe falling for her. And of course, I donāt think Otis is an awful person for this, he is a teenager after all, but I wished it wouldāve been handle differently because itās a mistake that happened on season 2 as well.
You know is bad when a majority of the audience has been talking non stop about Ruby and Otis instated of the "main couple" that recently had their first kiss. I donāt think the writers anticipated the insane chemistry between Asa and Mimi. This proves again that it doesnāt matter if a certain pairing has the trope and slow burn, if the writing is repetitive and uneventful and the actors donāt have romantic chemistry people will 100% jump to the one that does. They truly made a big mistake by exploring Ruby and Otis and then ending them so abruptly to simply go back to the same narrative. People is actually pissed.
thinking about how adam has been made to feel like a disappointment by his father his whole life and when he finally tries to figure out who he is without his dadās oppressive presence heās made to feel like a disappointment by his own boyfriend ā¹ļø adam finally has the chance to explore his queer identity and overcome his dadās abuse and ericās like āwell if you wonāt come to the gay club then i guess youāre not figuring it out fast enough for me to stayā ā¹ļø and then the narrative rewards eric for this, he just leaves his bf crying on a bridge and the next scene we see of him heās laughing and jamming out in his room while adamās voiceover reads out a poem about how heās never felt love like he did for eric to the extent that he truly believed himself to be a totally heartless person ā¹ļø
Say what you want about tiktok but the trend of writing the captions onto the video? Thatās super helpful/inclusive for deaf/HH people (and even people who donāt speak a language natively etc) and I just think thatās kinda cool.
So many platforms have videos that arenāt accessible to people, but itās become the norm on tiktok to caption the videos and thatās pretty nice. Also since the captions are actually on the video, that means when it gets reposted to other websites it is still accessible!
I LOVE THEIR FRIENDSHIP
sorry but in WHAT world would a hall full of british teenagers think their new headteacher was cool because she danced across the stage like theresa may? everyone would eat her alive
zuko staying up all night outside katara's tent is genuinely one of the tenderest moments in the whole show to me because it's so clear that zuko didn't have to do that. whenever we've seen zuko do this before it's usually for a purpose (hunting aang), out of necessity (catching sokka sneaking off to boiling rock so he didn't go into danger by himself), or because someone he loved was in danger (iroh being injured by azula's lightning).
with katara, there's no such urgency. there's nothing stopping zuko from getting a good night's sleep and finding katara the next morning to tell her about the southern raiders. it would hardly have delayed the trip by more than an hour or two, if that. it's likely zuko would've woken up before katara anyway (mr. rise with the sun after all) so he probably could've met her at the same time he did in the show without having to lose sleep and wait outside her tent.
but he doesn't, because he knows that katara would want to know about the southern raiders right away -- that this is information given already six years too late, and which he has no right to keep from her for even a second longer than he has to. i think too that zuko saw some part of himself in katara here; the little boy who ran to find the person responsible for his mother's disappearance the moment he learned she was gone and the teenager who had to live an almost equal amount of time never knowing for sure who had taken her away and why, would surely relate better than anyone to katara's desire for closure, for answers so long denied.
(which is also why i can't take it seriously when people paint zuko's actions in this episode as self-serving. of course he wants to earn her forgiveness -- which, by the way, he should want-- but not once does zuko let his desires take precedence over katara's. if he was going to do that, he would probably have started by not pulling an all-nighter on an uncomfortable ass rock for no logical reason.)
so he stays. he waits. he puts his needs second to hers -- as he will do for the rest of the episode, as he will do when he leaps in front of lightning for her -- not only because he cares enough to try, to figure out what she needs, but because he understands her.
and if that's not love, idk what is.
āarenāt you tired of being niceā no!!!! iām tired of everyone else being mean!!!!!!!!
I'm rewatching Avatar the last airbender, and it's crazy how maternal Katara is with Aang. He actually called her "Mom" at one point?! OK, that's comedic for the show and supporting Katara acting like a mother when she's too young, but getting Aang to say "mom" specifically? Help... Also, Katara is way more mature than Aang overall. I had forgotten how offbeat they were... And then Mai who doesn't really understand Zuko... Yes, sorry but for me Kataang and Maiko are not relationships that should have ended together. I'm at the episode where Zuko and Sokka broke Suki out of prison. Do I really find it impressive that Mai said to Azula, "I love Zuko more than I'm afraid of you." Uh... I'm sorry, but when was Mai ever afraid of Azula? Whenever she disagreed with Azula, Mai would not obey her. What happened with Zuko is nothing out of the ordinary. I still remember that unlike the other, Azula didn't need to scare Mai so that she agreed to join her group to hunt down Aang. Afraid of Azula? Let me laugh. It's so forced as a statement to make us swallow Maiko down our throats.
