How to add percentages to numbers Word Problems (Alberta Grade 7 curriculum)
Example
Janis goes to a restaurant and spends $32.45 dollars. There is a 5% GST tax and she leaves a 15% percent tip. How much is the total bill?
Steps
1.) Add both percentages together. 15 + 5 = 20. Therefore, treat this as adding 20% to the bill.
2.) Convert the percentage into a decimal. Percent means out of a hundred, which means we can convert to a fraction as well. This turns into 20/100. If still stuck on how to get a decimal, divide the fraction. The answer will be 0.20.
3.) Multiply aforementioned decimal by original number. This will be 6.49.
4.) Add the product and original number together. That is your final answer. ($38.94.)

Hi there! I'm Maxx. I'm 20 years old and my pronouns are she/him. I'm a student teacher in Canada, Alberta. Because of this I do unintentionally censor my words sometimes on here, as I work with kids. I love Sailor Moon, Degrassi, and Bungou Stray Dogs. I have 3 cats! Thanks for reading <3. Feel free to ask me anything, especially stuff including teaching and or school subjects! (Despite teaching math, I do suck at it, though.)

The way Nat sobs like a little kid in this scene absolutely broke me. We have never seen Nat openly sob like this— not when her dad died, not when the plane crashed, not when Javi or Jackie died, not even when she killed Coach. This is Nat finally losing any hope or resolve that she had left.
