Unto the Labyrinth Chapter 6 is up!
Anxiety overtook Maze. She thumbed her ring, fingers trembling.
She was up.
Finally, the applause for the District 2 boy began dying down, and someone wearing all black at the side of the stage motioned to Maze, indicating she was next.
She sat up straight and prepared to stand up, moving her thumb over her ring one last time. Her heart pounded in her chest.
“And now, for someone who we’ve been curious about since her Reaping, and even more curious about since the tribute parade,” Caesar announced. “The one and only, Maze Donahue, from District 3!”
Maze took a deep breath, stood up, and walked out onto the stage to thunderous applause.

Beetee’s hollow, despaired eyes at his final interview would not leave her mind. The eyes of a man — no, a boy — who had just witnessed an entire week full of horrors. The eyes of a boy who knew that out of the twenty-four sent into the arena, he was the sole survivor. The eyes of a boy who had to live with the fact that he had murdered six other teenagers.
Now, across the table, a calm, collected man sat and ate his dinner. There was no trace of the despair he once had anywhere on him.
Maze wondered just how Beetee had learned to live with it all. How he managed to compartmentalize his negative emotions and memories from the Games. Or if he hadn’t and just learned to mask it well.
She wanted to know what made him tick.

Her head was still in her hands when she stepped out of the elevator, causing her to nearly run into Beetee. He had been waiting for her at the elevator.
“How did it go?”
“I followed the plan,” Maze replied, not even trying to mask the despair in her voice. “But then I messed it all up.”
“Oh? What happened?”
Maze bit her lip. “I gave the dummy a stupid voice.”
Beetee raised an eyebrow.
“You gave the dummy a…stupid voice?” He couldn’t hide the astonishment in his own voice.

The cameras cut to Maze posing and acting cute, as well as some of the crowd’s reactions to her. They seemed enthralled by Maze’s actions.
Caesar chortled. “Ho ho, the crowd is just eating Miss Donahue up! And she’s eating them up, it seems. Adorable! I cannot believe this is the same girl who was yelling and cursing at her Reaping. She did a complete one-eighty!”
“I don’t know, Caesar,” Melia replied, clicking her tongue. “She’s posing and acting like you’d expect from someone from a Career district. District 3 tributes are not nearly prestigious enough to show off like that. Like, come on, you’re District 3. They’ve only had like what, four Victors in fifty-seven years? It’s cringeworthy, in my opinion. This girl obviously thinks she’s much hotter shit than she actually is, excuse my language.”
Maze, biting into a giant fried animal leg, let out an indignant noise.
That bitch!
Troy laughed. “Ha! Told you so!”
Caesar looked taken aback. He gave his co-host a side-eyed glance. “Well, that’s certainly an opinion.”
The two commentators moved on as District 4’s chariot appeared on-screen.
“I never liked Melia Ferrero,” Philomena commented, cutting up her meat with her knife and fork. “She always has something negative to say about everybody and everything. People like her are absolutely exhausting.”
She glanced pointedly at Troy as she said that. He didn’t seem to notice, jovially continuing to scarf down his food.
I know some fic writers get stressed about writing tropes they think are too popular or overdone, and I need you all to know that I just spent 4 hours reading every iteration of the same exact fic plot I could find, and they all brought me an indescribable amount of joy. Listen. Listen. Sometimes you want cakes of many flavours and sometimes you want Nine Carrot Cakes

It has to be Cells At Work: Realisations by Corvus_Albus on AO3! That fic is so fluffy I could die and I’ve reread it at least five times at this point ❤️
👮: If one of your fics was going to get you arrested, which one and why?
Back in like 2013 I wrote this fic called “Autumn White and the Five Strange Wizards” where an 11-12 year old girl was in an implied relationship with an ancient timeless man in the body of an 11-12 year old boy, so…yeah. It was also not a very good fic, as the titular character was very much a Mary Sue and I made my Warrior Cats self-insert OC randomly appear in the fic for no reason.

The Zero Comment Challenge is a way for readers to find new stories and reach out to authors they want to encourage.
Every fandom has stories that get lost in the shuffle. Maybe they were posted during a busy time and didn’t get much attention. Maybe the author didn’t tag as effectively as they could have to get their story in front of the audience it was intended for. Maybe the fandom is just really shy so they leave kudos instead of comments.
The Zero Comment Challenge is meant to find those authors and give them some love. Go to the AO3 search and filter by comments, then look at the fics that don’t have any comments at all.
