in august, kennedy went cruising off the coast of northern maine with some friends aboard the palawan, a yacht borrowed from thomas watson, the chairman of ibm. a gust of wind suddenly blew jfk’s old bomber jacket off the deck and into the water. without hesitating or apparently thinking, rfk went right over the side after his brother’s jacket.

the palawan was sailing fast. the water temperature in the bay of maine was about 50 degrees. the captain quickly spun the wheel, but he seriously worried that kennedy would drown in the icy water before he could bring the boat around. he estimated that kennedy could last no more than twelve minutes. that was about how long it took to fish rfk, blue and shaking but holding the sacred garment, from the sea.

something very alluring about bobby at jack & jackie’s wedding. idk if it was the summer tan or the liveliness of the occasion or the feeling of pure happiness for his brother or WHAT but he looked so good on this day. more than usual mind you.
