When they first started talking, Julie got on Jeff about looking so scared all the time. She told him his eyes would dry out if he kept looking around like a wounded prey animal. Jeff didn’t really know how to stop looking like that. His big brown eyes were always fully opened without him even trying. Julie would softly trace his eye socket and cheekbones with the pad of her thumb and tell him he might as well cut his eyelids off because they don’t help him much anyways. He liked it when Julie called him a prey animal, but he didn’t like to think about why he did.
