Merlin/Merthur Fic Rec Part 1

So I have enjoyed reading some brilliant Merlin inspired fics and here’s a collection of some of my favourites:

-Paint my spirit gold by andiwould (19k)

Arthur’s agreed to come to the druid camp so that he can see this Emrys the prophecy talks about and unite their lands, but Emrys won’t meet him. Instead, Arthur’s been left with this young druid called Merlin that parades around half-naked and smiles too much. At first, Arthur feels as though there’s not much more to him than just that, but later he discovers that he’s been wrong all along and that Emrys has been closer to him than he thought.

- The King of Mars by Ivalee (Chapters 5/5)

As children, the Pendragon siblings were obsessed with the space program. They dreamt of becoming astronauts and one day walking on another planet. Their dream leads them to NASA where the revelation of magic suddenly brings Mars within our reach. The Camelot 1 crew, including both Pendragons and powerful sorcerer, Merlin Emrys, land on Mars, and the world celebrates – until a Martian storm cuts the mission short and tragedy strikes. Arthur is killed, and Morgana makes the difficult decision to leave her brother’s body behind on Mars. His crewmates and the world mourn his loss, until Gwen Smith, a clever engineer at NASA, makes a shocking discovery: Arthur is alive.

His ingenuity and determination will get him far, but will Arthur be able to survive alone on Mars until help arrives?

-A Medieval King Arthur in Cameron’s Court by tuesdaymidnight (26k)

The legends all say that King Arthur will return when Britain needs him most. That’s why Merlin is confused when Arthur is awoken in the twenty-first century. The country isn’t under attack, the pound remains strong, British artists are topping the Billboard charts, really, the only thing amiss is Merlin’s magic. At first, Merlin thinks it’s technology interfering with the balance of magic in the world, but with the arrival of Arthur, he’s not so sure. When Gwaine and Percival also reappear, together the four men try to find the cause of the magical failure. Eventually they track the problem down to a CEO of an energy industry giant who looks suspiciously like Morgana, and the four old friends are forced to stop her. All the while, Merlin has his hands full with three medieval knights trying to adjust to life in the twenty-first century.

- The Unintentional Wooing Skills of Arthur Pendragon by giselleslash (5k)

Arthur is a master of wooing…if one defines master as ‘a complete and utter tragedy’. Somehow Merlin doesn’t seem to mind all that much.

-A Modern Manservant by Mamalazzer (Chapters 2/2)

A modern magical comedy very loosely based on Ugly Betty. Publishing king Uther Pendragon has had enough of his playboy son seducing every female assistant he has ever had so he hires Merlin, a man he is sure Arthur will never sleep with. Merlin would be more insulted by this fact if he wasn’t so busy trying to juggle his duties, save Arthur’s skin from ruthless fashionistas and keep his magic a secret at the same time. Expect appearances by oil-lathered knights, the occasional mad druid, a perverted Will and a mental caretaker who lives in the basement and keeps harping on about coins and destiny.

- Warden (Of the Land) Primal (Of the Sea) by FrozenMarVel (Chapters 20/20)

Arthur is a half-human, half-atlantean warrior, popularly known as the Aquaman. Following his world saving feat with his fellow League heroes, he does his best to use his natural abilities for the good of humankind. Enter captivating, fierce Merlin, a Prince of the Seas, who insists on Arthur’s help to stop his power hungry half-brother King Mordred from forcefully uniting the oceanic people to conquer the surface world.

The Kingdom of Atlantis needs its one true heir to take the throne, but can Arthur set aside his anger at the people who murdered his Queen Mother for bearing a half-breed? Amid Primordial Creatures, Legendary Weapons and Powerful Sea Sorcerers, Arthur must stop a great war and save everyone, while enduring Merlin’s irresistible self.

Easier said than done.

Aithusa might have been no bigger than a house cat but she was still a dragon. That meant wings, claws, and her own personal hoard, which in Aithusa’s case included soft pillows, fluffy socks, and much to Merlin’s chagrin, stolen pants. When Merlin found out that his winged ward had stolen a rather considerable pile of clothing for her hoard, he thought that it would be the end of any kind of friendship with his neighbour. But when Merlin met the victim of Aithusa’s burglary, he was pleasantly surprised to find Arthur, a man who had never in his life seen a dragon let alone a burglarizing one, and Cavall, a curious German Shepherd puppy who was quick to befriend the little white dragon. From there, it was only the beginning.

- A (Marginally Secret) Sorcerer on Her Majesty’s (Marginally Secret) Service…Plus a prat of a Field Agent by Phoenix_Rose (Series)

Merlin Myrddin is our definitely, entirely, completely secret Sorcerer.

Arthur Pendragon is out definitely, entirely, completely magic-hating field agent.

Merlin definitely doesn’t call Arthur ‘Prince’ as a pet name (it’s a codename).

Arthur definitely doesn’t call Merlin ‘Emrys’ because he’s in awe of his power in any way.

And most importantly of all - they are definitely not dating against protocol, Uther Pendragon’s wishes, and the logic of every person in Great Britain.

-We duel at dawn by clotpolesonly (2k)

Merlin was squinting at him, concentrating very hard. Arthur waited for him to say whatever it was he was thinking so hard about.

What he finally got was, “Fight me.”

Arthur was hard-pressed not to laugh out loud. Merlin looked so determined, his chin up and eyes narrowed, but he was obviously still high as balls.

- About Time by rosewatergold (55k)

After losing Arthur, Merlin semi-accidentally travels back in time. In an attempt to change the future, Merlin takes Morgana under his wing and trains her in magic, all the while trying to pretend he’s not still in love with an Arthur who doesn’t remember that they used to be married (in the future, that is), keeping an eye out for Morgause, and juggling Camelot’s run of the mill crises. You know, the usual manservant stuff.

Unter is enchanted and he forces Merlin and Arthur to marry. Apparently, Uther is very happy about that.

It Didn´t Mean Anything (by ingberry)

A modern AU in with Merlin has magic (known by the others) and works at Arthurs “Camelot Inn”. He accidentally enchants them to be kinda bound together for a few days. Very cute :)

It Meant Something (by fifty_fifty)

This is the remix. It takes place in canon era. Arthur doesn´t know about the magic here. Also very cute :)

Love Potion Number Nine (by Clea2011)

(Also a remix. The original is “Shy”) Takes place after the Princess Vivian incident. Camelot is infested with love potions and kinda everyone falls victim to it. This was hilarious and adorable.

Merlin touches Arthur just a little when he dresses him. And over the time he grows bolder. This is just a short read but very enjoyable - and also very cute.

Arthur Pendragon and the Perfect Servant (by Clea2011)

This takes place in A Servant Of Two Masters. It´s from Arthurs perspective and amazingly funny. Arthur hates George - obviously - and now he has to spend the day with him…. :)

Someone Special (by teprometo)

Modern AU. Merlins older brother has a really hot mate… Arthur. Smutty and very enjoyable.

In Your Shoes, in Your Heart (by Mischel)

This was amazing. Merlin and Arthur swap roles for a day because that is a tradition once a year in Camelot. And so Merlin is the price for a day and Arthur is his servant. (Such a good idea, I really loved this one)

Linger On Your Pale Blue Eyes (by supercalvin)

This a touch-fest fic. Arthur is very touch-starved but he is the prince and he denies himself all things affectionate and such. Good thing Merlin is there :)

roses are red/ so´s Arthurs face (by platonic_boner)

This is hilarious and it was a reread for me. Arthur and Leon experience an accidental bodyswap. Arthur who is already involved with Merlin fears his beloved will know. So he instructs Leon to act as “Arthur” as possible. (There are suggested poetry lessons and such ) Very funny :)

Dirty and Perfect, We Are Not In Love, Find Me And Follow Me

This is the Dirty and Perfect series by orphan_account. I count it as one story. There is a podfic for the first one, but not for the others. The first one is just a little hook-up story with a very weird twist (almost made me not read it further.) but It actcually grew better and better as the story progessed. The secone one is about both of them thinking how disgusting this was - but also how they can´t stop thinking about this weird incident. And the third one - well this would be a spoiler so I won´t go into that one now.

Do you have a list of favorite zosan fics? Sorry if someone's asked this before x.x

Hooo boy, this is going to be challenging because there's simply a lot of fics that I like and it's kind of all over the place depending on my mood, but I'm going to make a general list of some of my favorites and a short summary of why I like them.

This is going to be a little long so I'm going to put them under read more!

Sketches of Life (and Love) by Fledgling — An exploration of a headcanon where Sanji likes to draw in his free time. This fic always leaves me with a warm feeling every time I read it because how endearingly sweet it is. It's basically a domestic fluff story about both ZoSan and the Strawhats crew in general.

green with envy blues by adietxt — A cute fic about Zoro being jealous. Jealous!Zoro has been one of those tropes that make me screech like a feral animal every time I come across it and this fic does exactly that. It's pretty short and simple but it captures the characters very well. It's set during pre-timeskip which makes it even better to me because pre-TS Zoro possesses that boyish quality that post-TS Zoro doesn’t necessarily have anymore.

Old Men Blues by postmoderne — Quoting directly from the fic's summary, “Sanji and Zoro: two ancient fucks (in love).” because this is exactly that, a story about old men ZoSan. Old Zoro and old Sanji are both still as stubborn as ever and it's endearing.

Meet me under the orange tree by candelina — A canon divergence AU where Zoro and Sanji met as kids, as Zeff opened up Baratie in Zoro's hometown. It's an adorable and heartwarming story of little Zoro and little Sanji's friendship. There's also a part two which is also worth reading.

Other fics from candelina: The whole world will know, another fic about old men ZoSan, this one involves Zoro deliberately showing himself to the Marines for god knows what. It's sweet, it's beautiful, and it shows that Zoro is as reckless and idiotic as he is a loving, devoted husband.

Zoro's Boyfriend, Who Lives In Canada by donutsandcoffee — Modern AU, where Zoro's friends try to stop him from believing that his imaginary, totally made-up boyfriend actually exists. Of course Zoro's boyfriend doesn't actually exist, because with the way Zoro describes him he's way too perfect to exist and how can anyone so perfect actually exist? A hilarious story of misunderstandings.

Other fics from donutsandcoffee: My other favorite stories would be Prison Blues and it’s a long way forward, which serve as both a ZoSan story and a great Sanji character study.

The Three of Swords by 8ball — A medieval AU with knight Zoro and prince Sanji, a concept that starts to really grow on me after I begin to read this fic. In this story, Zoro is a cursed knight appointed to serve Sanji, a deeply kind-hearted prince whom Zoro eventually pines over. It's a beautiful take of prince and knight AU; devoted knight Zoro is something that I didn't know I need. It also has a sequel.

Steady, As She Goes by auspizien — I've always loved auspizien's fics and this is the one fic that made me fall in love with their writing. This is a modern AU story where Zoro is an ex-agent with PTSD who meets and befriends Sanji, a paramedic. It's a multi-chapter fic filled with humor, angst, pining, action, and good ol’ slow-burn.

The Tribulations of Tempation by SweetyGreeny — Zoro accidentally sees Ace and Sanji doing... the do, and then spends days after that feeling shocked, confused, angry, and disappointed. A simply delicious story of pining and jealous Zoro. There's a slight AceSan in the beginning but the endgame is still ZoSan.

Other fics from SweetyGreeny: A Siren's Sinking Song, a canon-divergent AU where Sanji is a siren who one day meets a peculiar swordsman from a wandering ship; this story is beautiful and I love the idea of siren!Sanji, but please note the major character death TW. The Burden of Blondes, Sanji finds out that Zoro has a thing for blondes, and for some reason he feels uneasy. A fun story with some good smut.

(I Want) Someone to Love Me by three_days_late — Sanji is about to turn 17, so he hopes that he can get his first kiss before that. A cute high school AU that involves everyone wanting to kiss Sanji (honestly, who doesn't) but only one person gets to actually do it.

Other fics from three_days_late: Blood Red - this might be a little biased because this fic is inspired by my comic, but that's also a perfectly good reason why I must add it here; this fic is able to capture the spirit of the comic perfectly. If you want to read a short exposition of Zoro showing his protective side, then this fic is worth the read. The Christmas Swap, a modern AU in which Sanji and Reiju switch partners during Christmas so they can attend their family gathering without having to come out as queer. It’s a wonderful story about family, relationships, and what it feels like to be closeted. The Only Way Out (Is Through), a beautiful Prince Sanji and Knight Zoro story, where circumstances forced them to be unable to be together - and it also has a side Nami/Vivi.

Curly Angel by APTX (translated to English by NMTD) — In this alternative canon universe, everyone has a guardian angel, and Zoro's just happened to be Sanji. Hilarity ensues. I have to admit that I absolutely love all of APTX's ZoSan fics, but since most of them are in Chinese, if you're like me and doesn't mind reading some really botchy translations of said fics, then you can try using Google Translate to read them.

Let me be your Inspiration by TheWanderers — College AU where Sanji is an artist/painter - another fic that explores Sanji as someone with an artistic streak, but also so much more. It's a beautiful story that starts out with Zoro having to model for Sanji's painting but ends up falling in love with him. I love the way the author adapts the characters' canon backstory into this universe.

Thy Fearful Symmetry by Harubo — A modern AU where Sanji is a tourist visiting a tiger reserve during a family vacation and Zoro is a detective investigating a poaching ring. All of Harubo's fics are godsend but I particularly love this one because the setting reads like a perfect rom-com drama movie about a stressed, overworked chef meeting a handsome detective. There's also a nice tidbit where the Vinsmoke siblings are trying to get along with each other.

Retrogade by Hazel_Athena — Sanji got badly injured after a fight, and ends up losing a big chunk of memories - he doesn't find it too bothersome until he notices how weird Zoro starts to act around him. It's a really good temporary amnesia fic with some really delicious pining!Zoro material.

Done Dirt Cheap by Balderdashfromafool — Basically a Western ZoSan AU, where Zoro is an outlaw and Sanji is a small town chef. This one is fun and lovely, and as someone who doesn’t read a lot of Western-themed stories, I love the way the author describes the Western setting in this fic.

Each A Love Song by Shadowcatxxx — Sanji is frustrated because Zoro's surprisingly popular with women when he doesn't even like them back. A story of a confused Sanji trying to find love and being the World’s Most Oblivious Man.

And that's all for now! It got way longer than I initially thought....there are some fics that I exclude, mostly the more explicit, PWP-type of fics, as well as Omegaverse fics, because my taste on them tend to be more specific and self-indulgent as ever. I might need to make a separate post for that, and also like feel free to ask me about them anytime.

I really hope I've done these fics justice with my summaries. I can't overstate how talented these authors are, so please shower them with love, kudos, comments, attention, etc etc if you have time.

Beneath a Moonless Sky (Angel of Music,Harry Hook x Fem!OC Reader) - Chapter Two

Hi guys! I am loving the fact that so many of you have been loving this story! This story is near and dear to my heart, I planned out so many aesthetic boards, Pinterest boards, and even outfit ideas to get here so I’m happy this story is taking off!

Summary: Harry Hook cannot sleep, his dream is changing, the Mysterious Siren plagues his mind, and he feels a calling to an unknown place hidden somewhere on the Isle. Although early morning walks lead Harry to some answers.

Not sure how canon this is but I have personally decided that the reason people in alice in borderland can bleed out for 3 episodes straight, no problem but Tatta died of a broken hand might be because he gave up on living and as we now know borderland is between life and death so giving up does result in death the same way losing does. Other characters might not have fully given up on living yet (or were fighting against death out of spite) even though their wounds were more severe.
