Okay, so y'all know the phenomenon where American media companies say they can't produce queer stories because they'll just get censored in foreign markets? It's transparent as hell, because the dominant culture of the United States is still violently queerphobic, and in many cases, state queerphobia in other countries is the direct result of Christian imperialism. The US is not the enlightened gay haven in a world of evil homophobic foreigners, and trying to pretend that American media can't be too gay because it'll be censored overseas is asinine. We all know that, right?
Anyway, today I learned that there is an episode of the Australian cartoon Bluey that has been censored in the United States because it shows the dad character pretending to be pregnant and have a baby as part of a game of pretend. Disney refuses to air it on the Disney Channel or on Disney+. It has been made available on YouTube by the Australian rights holders.
So let's quit fucking pretending that Disney is actually scared of foreign censors, hm? The queerphobic censorship is coming from inside the House of Mouse, and it always has been.
The nostalgia for the present.
The longing for a time that ended just as you learned to love it đ
The reality that you canât remember the exact day that something beloved ended.

Yes itâs the first and last hill.
I know itâs not hard to point out reactionaries hypocrisy when it comes to like safe spaces or hug boxes or whatever but genuinely how much of an echo chamber do you have to exist in for you to think this is a reasonable thing to say
You can buy cookies online from any troop with a page set up. People bought so many cookies from troop 6000 (who is based out of a homeless shelter in NYC) that is broke the counter on the website.
Hereâs six troops from high poverty areas that may struggle to reach their goals. Individual troops list on their page what theyâre doing with funds. for many of these its simple things like badges or craft supplies. Get yourself some cookies.
troop 168 Sabra Grande, Puerto RicoÂ
Troop 3559 Chinlee, Az (Navajo nation)
Troop 31897 Meadow Bridge, West VirginiaÂ
Troop 70115 Rena Lara, MississippiÂ
Troop9626 Kykotsmovi Village, AZ  -Hopi Nation
Troop 30349 Darien, GAÂ
You can also just donate cookies on there and theyâll be distributed to the local community. (I work at food pantry here and clients are always excited to see cookies on the shelves)
You can look up your local troop by zip code on https://www.girlscouts.org/  If theyâre similarly struggling to raise funds, reblog and add âem on to the chain.
I have also seen too many leftists or progressives (?) who are letting themselves forget about how bad Trump was and how much damage was done by and for him. âOh, we made it through four years of Trump once and we can do it again.â And so many versions of this.
No no my friends, it was worse than you remember, and things can indeed get worse. Trump may not be able to make himself god-emperor of the USA, but I can absolutely see a future in which we are no longer even a two-party political system. Say good night to democracy because itâs going to be a long hard sleep if Trump gets elected.

NEVER THROW YOUR VOTE AWAY!
(captions added by me)
Câmere, kid. Â I want to tell you a secret.
Whoa, whoa, not like that! Â This isnât one of those âstrange man tells you something that youâre not supposed to share with your parentsâ situations. Â I want you to share this with your parents. Â I want you to share this with the whole world. Â You wanna be my prophet, you go right ahead. Â Itâs not like most folks are gonna listen, but every so often, one of you people decides to try, and Iâm always grateful, even if I donât think thereâs any point to it.
Okay. Â You with me? Â You listening? Â You cleaned your ears out recently? Â Because if youâre gonna be my prophet, I donât want you to go around telling people I said something I didnât. Â Thatâs happened to so many of my friends. Â They lay out one message, and folks pick it up and turn it into something terrible, into some sort of cudgel to beat people with. Â And thatâs not what Iâm about.
Okay. Â Youâre good? Â Then here you go. Â This is the secret, this is the essential thing I wish you over-important primates would hammer through your heads, this is what matters:
People are essentially good, and essentially the same, everywhere you go. Â Optimism isnât shallow, and being a happy person doesnât make you a fool. Â Youâre allowed to irrigate and plant flowers in your heart. Â That wonât make you weak. Â It wonât make you irresponsible, or petty. Â Be joyous. Â Find your light and nurture it, and once itâs strong and healthy enough to light up your room, open the windows and share it with the people around you.
Thereâs a lot of shadow in a lot of folks. Â A little light can help to beat it back, and can bring us a better world. Â All of us, not just the divine, and not just the damned.
Do your part, prophet or no. Â Nurture and protect your joy.
Reblogging because Iâm a grown 40-something mom whose career is in nursing. whose special interest when I was 17 was marine biology, and it still is. Just a little reminder that thereâs no shame if you didnât make your special interest into your career. Find joy in it still if you can! Collect special interests and find joy.
i feel like this is very importantTM to say, you dont need to be an expert in your special interest
marine biology is my special interest. i suck at identifying fish. i can identify one fish but only because i spent ages fixating on it. i couldnt tell you the scientific name of anything else.
when i was in primary school most of my information came from the octonauts since i wasnt allowed the internet, it was still my special interest then even when i hardly knew anything.
having a special interest doesnt mean you immediately become amazing at whatever it is, and thats totally ok. its ok to forget things, to not know things, for other people to know more about the thing. thats part of the fun, theres so much about everything to learn and improve on.
in my personal case there are thousands of scientists who know more than me. i may know more than my friends, but im 17. there are scientists who study the ocean for a living and its perfectly reasonable for them to know more than me
the only thing that matters is that it gives you energy, that you enjoy doing it, that its special to you
Iâm a âtheyâre beautiful in their own wayâ. I agree with all of this, so thanks for the thinking imma have to do.
a lot of it just boils down to "as you move through the world sometimes you will see ugly people, and that's not a problem that needs solving"
you will see people who are old. you will see people who are fat. you will see people who are disabled. you will see people who are not making an effort to keep up with their hygiene or their hair or their clothes. you will see people wearing clothes and makeup and jewelry of a subculture you find disturbing and offputting. this is all fine. this does not need to be solved.
the offered solution has often been to say "oh no, don't say ugly, they're all beautiful in their way!" but that's not the point. nobody has to be beautiful just to exist, to be in public, to be in your view. that road leads to dudebros saying that women they don't consider sufficiently fuckable should wear bags over their heads. to HOAs urging residents to call the cops on homeless encampments being an 'eyesore' on their beautiful streets. to people pushing for institutionalization so that they don't have to share a public with neurodivergent people. to people demanding that physically divergent people trigger tag photos of themselves.
"everyone is beautiful" works up until you find someone you can't see the beauty in. but it doesn't matter. nobody is entitled to a world populated exclusively by beautiful people. no matter what tv and the internet may have led you to believe.
If any of you ever feel like what you're doing for Palestine isn't helping anything, I'll tell you right now it's helping me. I know it is fortifying all of us who have been in this fight for years to see so many people willing to speak up. It has never been like this before.
The tide has already turned. The fact that #free palestine will have new posts everyday, that helps me. It helps my mental health knowing that Palestinians are less alone now than ever.
Yesterday I read some verses from the Quran talking about how "the blame" is not with those who wish to help but cannot, but with those who CAN help and do not.
Truly I do not care if all you do for Palestine is post in that #free palestine everyday, that is still more than many people with the means to do even more would do.
We see you. We see you standing in solidarity with us and with Palestinians. We love you. Thank you.
I love hearing these birds! Also, I was today years old when I learnd they are mourning doves and not morning doves. Rad!
