I'm Nour Alanqar, and reaching out to you during a time of unimaginable hardship. I am 26 years old, married to Ashraf Ismail, who is 32, and together we have three beautiful children: Hussein, 6, Rajaa, 5, and Youssef, just 10 months old. Our lives have been turned upside down by the devastating war in Gaza, and we desperately need your help.

My daughter Rajaa is a radiant beam of sunshine, bringing boundless joy, warmth, and love to everyone she meets.

On a dark night at the beginning of the war, our area was subjected to massive bombing. The explosions reached our home, forcing us to flee into the night, running amidst periodic explosions and searching for survival. We made our way to southern Gaza by morning, seeking refuge in Rafah.

This is our home, filled with our memories and moments of joy and happiness, now reduced to rubble. Its destruction shattered our hearts.

In Rafah, we found shelter in a crowded warehouse filled with strangers, all of us struggling to find basic necessities like food, water, safety, and cleanliness. Despite these challenges, we were again hit by direct bombardment. My husband was injured in the shoulder, and the scene around us was filled with blood and corpses. The cries of my children in those moments still echo in my head.

A fragment of what it once was, and now, what it has become.

We moved several times to places described as safe, only to face new tragedies. During this period, my precious daughter Raja contracted hepatitis, adding to our suffering.

It was incredibly difficult for me to endure these disasters, especially as I was in the process of giving birth. Youssef was deprived of proper breastfeeding and the necessary nutrition for his age. Hussein's right to education and a safe childhood have been cruelly taken from him.

My baby Youssef, whom I clung to throughout the war, running with him through the rubble of shattered homes to escape.

At an age when Hussein should have been enjoying his childhood, all his rights were taken away from him.

So you know when you have done something for such a long time and when you learn you’ve been doing it wrong and you still do it the wrong way out of habit because that’s me with Ikol’s voice from Amulet.

So what I meant by this is when I read the series for the first time, I gave the characters a distinct voice in my head when I read their dialogue. For example, for Vigo I imagined him to have a voice like uncle Iroh but deeper as if he does not care to hide the fact that he has seen some bad shit. For Emily I gave her a stern almost monotone feminine voice that brightened whenever she gave a snarky remark. With the voice, I thought Ikol was a girl for some reason . So because of that I imagined ‘she’ had a soft and deep voice that sounded like a mix of a mother telling their child a horrifying story like it was a lullaby and a woman trying to hypnotize you.

So the surprise I felt when I learned Ikol was a boy was…something. In the end I just kept reading Ikol’s dialogue in the voice I had for him originally because after imagining the voice I already created for him for months and getting rid of it was too much work for younger me.

If I had the ability I'd make an animated adaption of the Amulet series, albeit with some new stuff added for context and better world+character building and some old stuff removed because god damn it I'm sorry but I hate the part where Emily's FUTURE SELF WHICH JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND HELPS HER INSTEAD OF TRELLIS. It makes me want to drop myself into the void. Like, there's so many potential and cool ideas in this comic that either gets written poorly or abandoned in the end. But then again there's a chance I'd butcher the entire plot so badly it'll look a mutilated chew toy so I should probably not take any chances for now

Hate Loni and Roni’s names so I have convinced myself to believe that they are both nicknames for longer, much cooler traditional Elven names. I get they are twin characters but the rhyming, similar sounding names makes them seem so juvenile and non-serious 😭

I remember I drew some Emily redesigns but I got too lazy to color them so they're just blank for now. Imagine that most of the color palette is in warmer colors. Also please ignore the unnecessary drawings I totally didn't do those parts
