Why does canon only matter when it’s about Regulus being a Death Eater?

Why does it not matter when Sirius told fifteen year old Harry that he is less like James than he thought just because Harry wanted to keep him safe?

Why does it not matter when Remus spent an entire year believing that Sirius was a danger to the students, Harry included, and didn’t say a word to anyone about him being an animagus?

Why does it not matter when Snape’s Worst Memory took place after the Prank, only because Sirius was bored?

Why does it not matter when James went behind Lily’s back to hex Snape when they got together?

Why does it not matter when Lily said that James hexed anyone he wanted to because he could?

I love all the characters mentioned above. My point is that you do not get to pick and choose canon information whenever it’s convenient for you and then preach about sticking to canon. Now, I know the magnitude of being a DE is much greater than the other things I’ve mentioned but my point is that most of the anti-Regulus debate is him being a 100% bad person in “canon” while no acknowledgement of instances where he was shown to be good, too, and the opposite treatment for the characters you like. Ignoring all the flaws and only focusing on the good traits. You cannot hold Regulus to that standard while you blatantly ignore it for everyone else. If you’re saying that you love to stick to canon, then do that. Portray the Marauders as the bullies they were. Acknowledge the fact that Remus married Tonks. But you won’t because you just want an excuse to loudly hate on Regulus without any genuine, valid reason. And, look, I don’t care if you don’t like him. I don’t care if you hate him. What bothers me is the need you all feel to tell everyone that you hate him. I hate characters, too, but I don’t do this. You’re entitled to your opinions and others are to their own. Don’t be a hypocrite, though. Pick a side.

A side note! Stop saying that Regulus “murdered so many people.” You sound stupid. There is absolutely zero proof of that. He was literally at Hogwarts his entire teenage years and died immediately after. Snape (who was an important DE, while Regulus was said to be not important) had not killed anyone till he killed Dumbledore so when was <18 years old Regulus going to do that? And even if you headcanon that he did do those things, do not claim that it’s canon and a fact. It’s so annoying when you push your ideas as the only right and correct interpretation of his character. And stop putting him in the same category as people who were actually villains while discussing canon (like Barty, Peter, Bellatrix, etc.).

Engineer Regulus who always found comfort in maths, and who loves a challenge so fine if nobody else at the company will work for this jackass he will- oh my GOD HE’S AN ACTUAL NIGHTMARE
