hey netizens! i'm not sure how many people are aware, but youtube's been slowly rolling out a new anti-adblock policy that can't be bypassed with the usual software like uBlock Origin and Pi-Hole out of the gate
BUT, if you're a uBlock Origin user (or use an adblocker with a similar cosmetics modifier), you can add these commands in the uBlock dashboard (under My Filters) to get rid of it!
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0) youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, []) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)
reblog to help keep the internet less annoying and to tell corporations that try shit like this to go fuck themselves <3
toranaga out here playing 4d chess and laying the groundwork to build the brothel next to the catholic church. even in the midst of an impending war and possible surrender he remains a comedic genius.
not to be a useless lesbian but this is the hottest thing the waitress has ever done on this show
the fact that itsv was miles trying to get everyone home and atsv is everyone stopping miles from going home
Guys, the annual recap is finally here!!
Ted Lasso 3×09
I smiled the whole time while watching it, needed to meme the whole thing
My favorite part of the movie was when Liam and Theo decided not to participate in it and instead spent their honeymoon in Japan, where they met Hikari - a friendly ramen shop owner - and Liam went full-on history nerd mode, talking about Japanese culture, trying his best with foreign terminology. The museums? Kira's cameo? Perfect sequel, guys, we keep winning!
listen. i was yelling about this yesterday and i need to yell about it again.
im forever now thinking about how goose is basically canonized in top gun.
he's held up as this untouchable memory and bradley grows up both in the shadow of that, as well as trying to become that but hes not gonna be bc goose is a memory. hes stuck in time. he can be canonized to that extent because he will never change. he will never grow and make mistakes and that is sad. it is a tragic loss, a pure accident and nothing more. and it was so long ago that time has smoothed the rougher edges he has because goose was human. and bradley??
bradley will never be goose bc goose is long gone but people still look at him and think about his dad first in a lot of ways.
and like.
sure, there are parts of him that are his father bc goose is his dad, and there is some aspect of nature involved. and at which point does he end and goose begins and does he ever stand the chance of knowing when that is?
especially when his godfather looks at him with guilt in his eyes first and love second, even though he tries. and his mom (as far as we can tell) never moves on from that love?
bradley's been in both of their lives so much longer than goose ever did, but hes secondary to goose. they love him, and support him but the way they deal with things regarding bradley feels like they aren't seeing him. they're seeing the same ghost that hovers behind bradley and they're making decisions based on that.
their grief drives them. love for sure as well. but so much grief and that grief is once again used to put bradley secondary.
goose died in a freak accident so that means bradley needs to be saved. it doesn't matter what bradley wanted. it doesn't matter that a child can have the same dreams as their parents and not want to walk the same path. its not bradley trying to be a memory. its someone who grew u around that world and still wanted it.
and like, pulling the papers was never about bradley. it wasn't about wanting him to not join a system that would chew him up and spit him out. or talk about the very real dangers that come with the job, or how isolating it can be because of the travel involved.
they pulled the papers because they didn't want him to become goose. even when they claim to want to protect bradley. they are using the memory of goose to make it happen.
bradley never stood a chance of growing up without that shadow and it kinda makes me sad. hes haunting the narrative in so many ways, but hes also dragging bradley down as well.
Honestly, Isaac is an EXCEPTIONAL Captain. He’s a FAR better Captain than Roy whose idea of leading was basically just yelling out threats once in awhile when the guys got on his nerves.
Isaac takes the job so seriously. He makes sure the guys behave like a team on and off the pitch (insisting the team spend the evening together in Amsterdam), he demands they respect others (no trainers at a funeral, no keeping nudes in order to protect the people in them from tabloid hacks). He’s just a really good leader and I love him.
I want Miles to invite a bunch of spider people to one of his mom’s cookouts but he’s SO bad at trying to explain to his mom why all these people in increasingly weird Spider-Man outfits are here.
Rio: oh who are your friends honey? ^^
Miles: they’re uh. They’re the. The school Spider-Man club
Miguel somewhere in the back, mouth full of food: we’re the WHAT
rian johnson has managed to evade all common ethical problems in his screenwriting and i want everyone to know that the knives out mysteries are a perfect representation of how to write about a certain community respectfully AND simultaneously not make a big deal of how good you are at being a diverse writer.
in knives out and glass onion, both main characters are women who have been wronged by the other main character(s)—in marta's case, she experiences xenophobia from the thrombey's constantly; in andi's, she came up with a billion dollar idea which was stolen by a white man. when she took him to court for it, her entire friend group sided with this man; this directly affects helen after andi's death.
andi and marta's stories specifically represent real experiences for women who are minorities in america, but the stories are told without being too ham-fisted or obvious about it. these aren't stories about racism, xenophobia, and misogyny, they're stories involving racism, xenophobia, and misogyny, which i feel is something you don't often see. they're not triyng to prove a point by telling these stories, they're just stories being told—it's a difference that's hard to describe, but you know it when you see it. it's got less of a looking-into-the-camera-for-emphasis vibe.
alongside this, benoit was never a white/male savior to neither helen nor marta (respectively). he helped helen when she came to him about andi and he stood behind marta when he saw the tox report, but he never took over the case and they were never treated like damsels in distress. in the end, helen and marta took control of their own revenge and benoit nudged everyone else to the side while they did it. benoit is not the hero of these stories, helen and marta are.
this is good fucking writing!!!! i need film bros to be positively insufferable about rian johnson NEOW
edit 12/26/22: i've been told that ana de armas is a white latina. genuinely i did not know, she always looked brown to me and i haven't seen her in anything other than knives out, that's truly my bad. i've updated the post now to change the language about marta, other than that everything remains!
ruth ○ she/her ○ 20s ○ peace sign bisexual ○ never really knows what's happening ○ will probably figure it out someday ○ maybe ○ hopefully
