There's not a fine line between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. The difference is more obvious than you think it is.

Researching another person's cultural and really learning it is not appropriation in the slightest. I love learning others cultures. Genuinely learning and understanding another people's way of life and their traditions is appreciation. Asking questions about their culture and learning is a show of appreciation. And if you are lucky to be invited to join those people because they want you to be there and experience whatever it is they're doing, that is appreciation.

If you get gifted something of importance from another culture, that's appreciation. Because they willingly shared it with you. You standing by them in protests or in celebrations amplifying their voices is appreciation. You fighting with them against those who dismiss their culture or their way of life even when not they are not present is appreciation.

Appropriation is taking without asking (read: stealing) a part of a culture reframing or rewording it to seem a little different and claiming it as yours. Appropriation is wearing someone's artifacts for funsies. Talking over others experiences especially when you yourself are not prone to experiencing what they are more likely to deal with. A closed culture is closed for a fucking reason. You can do your research sure, but participation is not for you.

Appreciating is observation, understanding, a hands off unless invited or if it considered open for anyone to come and participate if they like. Appreciating is respecting the boundaries that have been made. Appropriation does none of those things.

And one more thing: The act of learning another's language unless specified that this should not be spoken by anyone outside that culture is not appropriation at all. In fact it breaks a huge barrier, and brings people closer together. Even if you're struggling to speak it, write it, understand etc. People will see that effort and encourage/help you.

This Is Proof That Capitalism Is Not About Freedom. Not Even Close.

This is proof that capitalism is not about freedom. Not even close.

In a system that values freedom, it would be expected that people would value living over working.

This is the same mentality as those who claimed to value freedom but owned slaves. They want freedom for themselves while everyone else serves them. They still haven't grown out of that.

via NYPost: Immigration and Customs Enforcement is preparing to launch a “big f–king operation” across sanctuary cities — including Chicago and New York — immediately after President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, multiple sources told The Post.

Starting Jan. 21, multi-day “ground operations” will be launched across cities that have served as safe havens for migrants because the local authorities do not cooperate with the federal government when it comes to immigration issues, sources said.

Mr. Steal Yo Girl

Once the dust settled in the ring and the crowd's cheers faded into the background, a heavy silence hung in the air. Shawn Michaels stood there, clutching the World Federation Championship belt tightly while confusion and disbelief washed over his face.

As the adrenaline of victory began to subside, a figure emerged from the crowd, weaving through the sea of shocked spectators. It was you, the reader, making your way towards the center of the ring. The bright lights above illuminated your determined expression, giving you an aura of strength.

With every step, the gravity of the situation weighed heavily on your heart. You had come to a decision, one that would change your life forever. As you reached Shawn Michaels, who still wore the expression of shattered dreams, you took a deep breath, preparing yourself for the words that would shatter his heart.

"It's over, Shawn," you whispered, your voice resonating with a mix of sadness and resolve. "I'm sorry, but I'm in love with Bret."

The words hung in the air, echoing through the silent arena. Shawn's eyes widened, his grip on the championship belt loosening as if trying to grapple with the reality of your confession. A mix of emotions played across his face, hurt and shock warring for dominance.

Meanwhile, backstage, Bret Hart watched the scene unfold on a monitor, a hint of guilt mixed with excitement flickering in his eyes. As you made your way back to the backstage area, a bittersweet smile traced his lips, knowing that the woman he had secretly desired for so long had finally chosen him.

When you reached Bret, the anticipation and tension in the air were palpable. Time seemed to stand still as you locked eyes, a silent understanding passing between you both. Without a word, you leaned in, and your lips met in a passionate kiss.

In that moment, all doubts melted away, and the confessions poured forth. You both spoke of the feelings that had blossomed but remained hidden, afraid of the consequences they may bring. Finally, the truth was laid bare, and a newfound love bloomed between you.

The world around you faded into the background as you embraced, the weight of the decision you had made lifting off your shoulders. The future was unknown and would not come without its challenges, but you were resolute in your choice. Love had unexpectedly found its way into your lives, forever altering the paths of all involved.

And as the world continued to turn, the tale of love entangled with ambition would be whispered in wrestling circles for years to come - a reminder that even in the midst of victory, the heart can sometimes lead us down an unexpected, yet ultimately fulfilling path.

Do you think Grrm hates Rhaenyra? I keep seeing this ever since he wrote that post.

See I don't think GRRM hates any of his characters, but especially not Rhaenyra. I can understand how people can interpret it that way to an extent, but it's very obvious he doesn't hate her.

In F&B, GRRM purposely writes it from the perspective of biased men, so of course Rhaenyra is portrayed badly. She's written by Munkin, Eustace, and Mushroom to be a negative example of women in power.

However, GRRM's MO has pretty much always been tackling medieval stereotypes and prejudices. Xenophobia, hatred of bastards, ableism, and sexism are all prevalent themes in ASOIAF. However, just because these themes are portrayed doesn't mean GRRM shares these views; in fact he uses ASOIAF to point out how destructive and wrong those ideas are.

Rhaenyra's story was written to show the destructive nature of the patriarchy. She as a character is meant to be morally gray and hated by historians. She's reflective of how history views ruling queens; she's demonized, wrongfully blamed, and disregarded.

The way readers are introduced to Rhaenyra is through people who hate her for being a woman who fought for her birthright. The way GRRM wrote his latest post about her is still from that perspective. People who claim he hates her are people who are unable to separate his actual views from those of his characters.

Yeah Trump showed his ass back 2016 and 2020 but he really has been showing it recently. The most vile and disgusting things coming out of his senile mouth on top of the charges. Yet, people confidently think that 'yep this man should lead our country'. Many of us don't agree with everything Kamala says or does (Palestinian genocide being a big thing), of course not, but saying the two candidates are the same is wild.
