Japan always seems so uninterested when visiting America in their home country. They always seem so neutral about everything, even the cool monuments. But, the MOMENT America goes to Japan in their home country America finds a room FILLED with American stuff. This is how America finds out that Japan is a complete westaboo and secretly buys assortments of American stuff.

Unicorn Warriors Eternal, the new fantasy, steampunk superhero show, from Samurai Jack and Primal creator Genndy Tartakovsky, is something else! Very different, and unusual from his from his usual fare, but given his track record with his previous experimental animated series, Mr. Tartakovsky could be onto something great! Really dig the retro Osamu Tezuka/ Max Fletcher style character designs, and it’s steampunk world!

I know everyone is freaking out about Winston, Emma and Blue Legolas but I wanna focus on Alfie here :(

Because!!! This IS Alfie. He’s a child. An orphan. He feels lost and scared because for four days now he’s been made to FEEL special. I said it before, but being “chosen” probably feels like a dream come true for him, after being abandoned on an island for roughly a year.

Edred keeps calling him Seng. And for all intents and purposes ALFIE is more than happy to fit the bill because why wouldn’t he? He’s probably no more than ten years old! He has magic! Some cosmic ghost is making him see wonders beyond reason

But THIS is also Alfie!

He’s a street wise orphan kid who KNOWS how to fight! He’s fearless. He’s willing to defend himself and I think he genuinely LIKES Copernicus and the rest of only because he’s used to working as a team. He literally SEES them as his gang, it’s all he knows after all! It’s an easy camaraderie.

Alfie was LITERALLY severed from Seng here yet still CHOOSES to fight.

What’s becoming more and more apparent is that these individuals might be the last incarnation - not because they’re “the wrong vessels” but perhaps because the spirits who have been trapped neigh a Millenium need to finally let go. THE REINCARNATED SPIRITS are the ones who need to move on.

Because Winston is right! Emma would never hurt anyone! She doesn’t want to! That’s the basis for a very good hero in every case! And yet - Edred insists she just let Malinda take over to do what they’ve always done - a method that has YET to actual defeat the great evil they’re after. Go figure.

There’s value and heroism within Emma and Alfie, they’re not what’s “wrong” with this incarnation. They might very well be what’s right.

I feel like England has kind of lost the dread and fear they once felt when America's birthday comes up. Thanks to France and other countries basically giving em some free-range therapy and consoling England only sulks for 2 days instead of the whole month of July.

Though America comes across as completely oblivious to this fact, I think they are very VERY aware of this. Like during the party for America's birthday, they like pull England aside just to say that they are the best parent a little colony could've asked for despite all the trouble. It makes England cry rivers and they spend the whole night crying to France about their favorite little bastard child.

England always feels the need to spoil America on their birthday, getting them something they know America will feel a deep connection to.

England then will say something along the lines of "Well, I know what you actually like, so I thought this would be meaningful." And it makes America feel a bit emotional. They don't show it to the crowd of other countries but the moment that America and England are alone 100% America is going to break down a little.

Idk Edred thinking he defeated The Evil™️ so easily and without much fanfare gives weight to the idea that The Evil™️ and this endless cycle of reincarnation is DESIGNED to be un-winnable.

Cuz what happens AFTER the warriors defeat The Evil™️ every cycle? Do they just….live a few more years? Because I doubt they give their vessels back their lives which may be why Edred wanted to prolong fixing Copernicus?

Because though I agree Dimitri is who is making it difficult for Edred to remember certain things like his past life w Melinda and certain information about their mission, it’s still doubtlessly EDRED at the helm.

It’s EDRED who considers Emma to be preventing him from being with Melinda. Like Mel, he tells Winston that Emma’s BODY “isn’t his anymore” —- if the warriors are only around long enough to defeat The Evil™️ every century or so, why would both Melinda and Edred be so cruel to Emma and Winston? Shouldn’t quasi immortal HEROES be more forgiving and generous to the vessels they inhabit? They’ll see each other again in a generation, won’t they?

Again, something about the reincarnation just isn’t right.

To me, it makes me suspect that the warriors just..:LIVE in these bodies they steal for a long while until their next death and rebirth. There’s no URGENCY to Edred wanting to defeat the Evil™️, no moment where he laments that his time w Melinda is brief this time around, nothing.

Because he’s still gonna be with Melinda provided he can properly expel Emma and have poor Winston fuck off. That’s why he’s not INTERESTED in helping Emma, like Winston asks him to here.

He’s interested in helping MELINDA. Because as soon as he does that, he gets to be with her for a few years, regardless if they have to be fighting The Evil™️ or not. It’s a…selfish incentive for the heroes to have. I think it’s MEANT to be selfish.

Emma, like Winston, points it out here that Edred left her to the wolves (haha) at the ship but is suddenly very caring now that Melinda is more prominent.

It’s one of the many ways they’ve shown to be out of touch, on top of not caring about innocent people they hurt and collateral damage, because they have the excuse of THE GREATER GOOD to act so recklessly and selfishly if all they want in return is to be together for a short while until the next cycle. Without caring whatsoever as to WHY the Evil™️ keeps coming back.

That’s also why Melinda is upset at Emma, she forced Melinda to confront Truama that she probably just represses between defeated the next Evil™️ and being the Edred. Again, I thinks the warriors are being encouraged to be so tunnel visioned about this.

Idk if any of this made sense but that’s why I think Edred presumably being so sure he Defeated The Evil™️ was so anticlimactic.

Just letting yall know the next fanfic I write will probably be some zeroceptionist or something
