Wow, the event in 2016 seems so far away. 381 days, countless meetings, even more phone calls, 15 pounds, 23,000 kilometers driven, and a beard. Looking through the pictures revealed a few things, mainly; the oceans of wine and abundance of talent, training, and fulfillment of spirit (both meanings) that went on over the event. I am still thankful and humbled to have been selected to be part of it. Sitting at dinner, and tables that with senior executives, directors and peers from companies over 100 years old to ones just starting who were identified as emerging leaders, in Montréal, was an experience I'll never forget. Getting the walking tour from a client and friend is really the best way to see a city. It really is as beautiful as I was told. The small winding streets, old architecture, and numerous shops. Schwartz's is the place for smoked meat sandwiches; full stop! Everything you want, right down to the greasy floor. I wish my battery had lasted to take pictures of the parliament building, the fort, or first Bank of Montreal. But tomorrow is a new day. Two facts remain undoubted. 1) Old Montreal is exquisite 2) My inner nerd loves Batman I can almost hear Harvey Dent say, "The night is darkest just before the dawn. And I promise you, the dawn is coming." Thankful for the trip out on the water, and short sailing lesson, before I had to leave to go back home; before the next journey begins. I love my clients! I'll miss you Vancouver. What's the story morning glory? Up before the Sun, the cloudiness of champagne from the Pac Rim the night before notable at the forefront of my mind. Was it too much music? Too much champagne? Was the private dinner @andyfreeman99 hosted excessively kind? Was the company unduly charming? Was Roman Payne's soliloquy correct when he said: "Champagne arrived in flûtes on trays, and we emptied them with gladness in our hearts... for when feasts are laid and classical music is played, where champagne is drunk once the sun has sunk and the season of summer is alive in spicy bloom, and beautiful women fill the room, and are generous with laughter and smiles... these things fill men's hearts with joy and remind one that life’s bounty is not always fleeting but can be captured, and enjoyed. After spending a day in Vancouver preparing for a conference on the tax changes next year old friends are found. Dinner at Cardero's, a walk on the waterfront, and drinks at too many places to count. We brake away from a crowd to go listen to a jazz band I heard earlier. Wouldn't you know, the only available table is front row, and the band is great. As I peel my eyes open and realize it is the last day of the #calgarystampede this year, I can't help but smile. Inside the pyramid of Summerhill. No lights. No ferrous metals. Aligned due north. Damn near pitch black we climb a narrow stairwell till we reach a room with a circle of chairs. Wine stored in its bowels for up to 30 years before sale. A statue of a golden goddess of some sort looks over us, next to the original wine racks, with bottles still in them. Off limits to everyone but us, the owner, and the, "occassional all female yoga party."
