okayy, i know everyone hates Arajin because he only fought for Mahoro, but why am i seeing, he is kinda not???
i know im just jokinh about how his type is definitely a cute and small person so he didnt really like Matakara but what if its true tho, he himself saw himself as a small and weak person so he has a soft spot when it comes to little Matakara because he is smaller than him
the reason why he didnt get up when matakara got beaten up was because he saw that Matakara was a big and though guy now so he didnt had the "thing" to protect him, BUT he had the flashback because he still Matakara after all. But when Mahoro was gonna getting crush, do you know what he is seeing? yes, the bully flashback again.
he didnt getting any of Mahoro flashback, he only get child Matakara flashback because Mahoro remind him of little Matakara so he has the urgue to protect her (so what im saying is, he kinda projecting his trauma of not able to protect Matakara through Mahoro who seems smaller than him) and after all today's bucchigiri episode was fire and even tho everyone had a cold feet towards arajin bcs he only fought to protect Mahoro, why not? he is protecting her because she reminds him of little Matakara anyway, and i got the goosebumps when Arajin got all the slice from akutaro (i just know the pain was real af) anyway, at the end im not dissapointed i hyped on bucchigiri since may 2023 and i cant wait to see another thing from this animeđ„đ„đ„
Iâm literally so nervous for the english dub of bucchigiri not just the voice acting but also because thereâs so many puns/play on word phrases in the japanese sub. I wonder how theyâre going to translate it into english/english phrasingâŠ
bucchigiri ep 8 thoughts (a.k.a. the drama-loving bitch inside me finally gets fed):
marito <- mahoro (can't take a hint) <- arajin (even worse at taking a hint) <- matakara (the worst at taking a hint)
ope well ara is back to being a dick to matakara
okay he's being a liiiiiiittle nice
matakara asking all the people in his life to attend is very sweet
i wonder if he asked ara to host because that's the only way he'd get ara to attend? hmm
kenichiro's little smile đ
not senya proposing lmao
eh shindo seems a little too sincere. trying to trick matakara? is ichiya making him get close so he can merge with matakara?
oh yeah definitely lol
i need this show to give me more than a static shot of ichiya cause his outfit slays
the animation on the gyoza-making is beautiful
also really nice to see something that arajin is good at that isn't given to him by magic. also nice to see him in a moment where he isn't the butt of the joke about how sad and horny he is
the colors got all desaturated... i'm a bit scared for what is going to go wrong with this party
does kenichiro own any other coat
did he die??? get jumped????
zabu and komao are real ones
hell yeah zabu go off
eat your goddamn guilt gyoza arajin
is ichiya gonna get him when he's weak hearted, like as implied in the first scene?
matakara even during a crisis you are still so gay. arajin is literally just a guy you need to prioritize yourself sweetie
i want matakara to go absolutely apeshit he deserves it
matakara your childhood friend who weighs 100 lbs soaking wet showed up one day with the power of a god and you never considered maybe he might be getting a little outside help
so is a big theme of this show about the dangers of idolization maybe? matakara believes in arajin to an unhealthy extent which only hurts him when he finds out he's nothing like how he imagines. ara is constantly hurt by mahoro failing to be the moe-blob gf of his dreams. mahoro is hurt when her brother doesn't return her affection. we're dealing with a lot of one-sided relationships here
i'm glad ara is finally being genuine and telling the truth
also maybe dealing with how idolization hurts the ones we idolize?
matakara :(
damn matakara is getting possessed by senya's evil gay ex. brainwashed by the homosexual agenda.
ICHIYA IS STUNNING oml
that was a really great episode! i wish we had gotten to this point earlier in the season though. i hope we keep up this more serious tone until the end. it's nice to finally get some real emotional catharsis. probably my fav episode of the season so far. i'm very excited to learn about senya and ichiya's falling out.
BUCCHIGIRI?! EP03: Love At Fist Fight! The One And Only Quail In The World
oh boy... that was a lot. an end to the gang war arc, and soon, the start to a new one. i want to start off by saying the animation was awesome this episode. all the action, emotional moments and small bits of comedy hit where they needed to.
i think it's interesting that it's not just that mahoro absolutely ROASTED akutaro, she also inspired arajin to kick his ass. NOT JUST because he has a crush on her, but because she refused to run, which is what arajin has been doing- it's a wake-up call for him to get some of his shit together.
it's also made blatantly clear that arajin does care about matakara.(the first person he sees when he gains consciousness is him getting fucking beat) hopefully next ep we get to see how their relationship develops from here. obviously they're not quite there yet, and i still think they're going to have a fight at some point- the next conflict focusing on matakara, and arajin showing us how much he's grown.
also, now that akutaro has been defeated, i wonder how ichiya will merge with matakara? how will matakara's conflict, brother, and ichiya and senya's past together play into this? will it be at the expense of matakara himself?
i also don't think this is the end of arajin's development, it's just the start. he'll always be a cringefail loser, but i think what ppl need to realize is that's okay. (his battle cry is still that he wants to lose his virginity, but that's not all there is to him! he beats up akutaro regardless.) he can be a loser and have development. he's not just one or the other, just like the rest of the characters in the show. they can be silly, beat people to a pulp AND have their own emotional moments. the show so far allows all of it, i think that's what makes it so great.
i can't wait to see where the show goes next!!
And the cat to match <3
- Continuing the ending scene of Episode 8, it seems like everything was Akutaroâs and Ichiyaâs plan was to go smoothly but SIKE! It was ICHIYAâS plan all along! Akutaro was just a pawn!
- Akutaro doesnât seem too pleased about it and wants to merge back with Ichiya with the latter telling him straight up how he was nothing but a tool straight up made him mad.
- In class, Mahoro as always is looking at photos of her brother and holy moly! THE JINâS HAVE A DOG?! I DIDNâT KNOW THEY WERE FRICKIN RICH!
- Anyways, Arajin being the simp that he is tries to give her the soapstone but she ignores him.
- However, Arajin just so happens to overhear Komao and Zabu being worried for Matakara and how heâs been gone for three days! WHAT?!
- This has got me super worried AF.
- Arajin doesnât seem too concerned about it but something tells me that deep down he feelsâŠworried for some reason.
- Back in the Tomoshibi family restaurant, Arajin is helping out as always and Senya canât help but notice Arajinâs worry so much to the point that he slapped him on the back pretty hard to cheer him up which he doesnât seem to accept.
- Back with Zabu and Komao, they asked the receptionist about Matakaraâs whereabouts again only this time heâs back. Excited about the news, both Zabu and Komao bought him something to eat but they heard a crashing sound.
- They open up to see Matakara opening up his piggy bank and taking up whatever remaining money that he has all the while ignoring Zabu and Komao. Man. That hurts.
- Meanwhile, Arajin is heading to the bathhouse due to the showers in his home being broken down, but then he bumped into Matakara but unlike the usual, Mataâs whole cheerful demeanour is gone, most likely from what happened last episode and just left without saying a word.
- The customer and cat cafĂš waiter returned again. This time, when the customer asked for Puâer again, the waiter begged him to take Jasmine again because of how sheâs been waiting for the customer which causes the customer to change and asked for Jasmine. What this means is probably gonna be foreshadowing of the next episode or the current predicament thatâs happening.
- At the bathhouse, Arajin was trying to enjoy a peaceful bath time when he ran into Komao and Zabu with the former being all cheerful, calling him Ara-pyon and offering to wash his back despite seeing him act like an uncaring asshole last episode (what a sweetheart).
- Arajin and Zabu asked each other about Matakaraâs wellbeing before Komao jumped into the bathtub cannonball style.
- Thereâs something oddly cathartic seeing the NG Boys and Girls discussing about Akutaroâs downfall (I mean he did abuse them after all) and Akutaro canât help but watch all of this happen and ran off embarrassed by his downfall.
- Tho that being said, Akutaro does have a plan in which he discovered a slip of paper that says Honki on the front but what it says is pretty unknown.
- Any scene with Matakara and Ichiya is just so heartwrenching because unlike Arajin and Senyaâs relationship, Ichiya is trying to break Mata down mentally.
- Oh and it turns out that the dark shadow thing isnât Ichiyaâs but something hiding within Matakara all along.
- Also, we got some backstory regarding how Matakara joined Minato Kai, in which he just beat up a bunch of random thugs because of honoring his brother and Arajin, he and Ken went up against each other to pass the trial to become a member of Minato Kai.
- Also, just saying but the first year design of Zabu and Komao are just so adorable. Oh and I guess my headcanon of the first meeting between these three got debunked but it technically became true when itâs revealed that all three joined Minato Kai at the same time.
- To Mahoro, Marito and Outa (the latter two who are absent since last ep): Mahoro is playing some sort of imaginary tea party with a dolly of Marito lol but the moment real Marito and Outa came in she quickly hid under the covers.
- From there, both Marito and Outa began to discuss about Mitsukuniâs hospitalization and also revealed that not even Kenichiro can beat him. When Marito asked why is Outa is concerned about Mitsukuni and even brought up the topic about it, Outa then revealed that Matakara is going through a hard time right now and that he is the kid brother of Mitsukuni.
- Both Marito and Mahoro who overheard about it expressed shock at the relation. And my reaction to all this is: âWait none of you siblings knew about it?â (Moreso from Mahoro because Matakara told her about it back in Episode 4)
- Marito heard something and began to search in his room for the noise which Outa began to question what is he doing before they continue their discussion.
- Mahoro oddly began to display worry and concern for Matakara, despite those two never interacting by a whole lot. But it is a nice gesture nonetheless.
- The next day, Arajin and Mahoro have a talk on the rooftop, to which the latter asked about the condition of Matakaraâs wellbeing. Arajin was hesitant to ask and even begin to worry about how she is showing interest in Mata (which is not true at all) to which Mahoro is disgusted by and just left him.
- Also, itâs interesting to note how Mahoro said that it happened to her once (regarding the things Matakara is going through) but what this mean is quite peculiar.
- While walking back, Senya tried to cheer Arajin up with a massive slap to the back but Arajin dodged it this time. At least until they are approached by a disheveled Akutaro who slipped a paper right into Arajinâs jacket pocket before going off.
- Ichiya breaking down Matakara and manipulating him to fight Arajin. My poor sunshine puppy. đ
- Arajin and Senya are walking to the bathhouse again but this time we are given expository on Senya and Ichiya.
- Both Senya and Ichiya are street kids (possibly back when they were mortals) who live in an unknown part of the desert long time ago. Senya (who wasnât given a name back then) admired Ichiyaâs fighting style and begged to fight him. Ichiya was disinterested in Senya at first but he doesnât seem to say no either.
- Over the years, both Senya and Ichiyaâs friendly rivalry grew and grew so much so that when they were hanging out, Ichiya was the one who named Senya as he is today.
- But all of a sudden, their relationship turned sour at some point with black shadows covering Ichiya. What happened is unknown but itâs seem odd for some reason.
- When Arajin asked why Senya relied the backstory to him, the genie said that both Arajin and Matakaraâs goal of being Honki People is a lot similar to his and Ichiyaâs goal.
- Matakara appears in front of Arajin, clearly looking distraught and not long before he starts attacking Arajin.
- Arajin had no idea what has happened and Senya told him to merge with him to which Arajin managed to thankfully stop Matakaraâs kicks but Matakara overpowered Arajin and just as he was about to land a finishing blow, Arajinâs gut began to growl which hit him to run to the nearest bathroom
- Also in all seriousness, canât they dropped the toilet humor?
- Ichiya appeared and is convinced that the reason Matakara held back was because of his kind heart.
- Back in the Tomoshibi residence, Ara patched himself up from what has happened and Senya looked down and muttered about how Ichiya now has a hold on Matakara now. Angered by all this, Arajin began to ask how did he know about it before Senya disappeared.
- Just as Arajin is lying down, he saw the slip of paper that Akutaro slipped in meet him in the dead of the night.
- Akutaro then revealed that the reason why Senya is being secretive is because apparently Senya is planning to take over Arajin!
- Back with Ichiya and Matakara, Ichiya talked about Mitsukuni and feed lies on why the latter is weak before Matakara began to go apeshit and destroyed the dark shadow. Oh and Matakara has a mark behind his back not unlike the one Arajin has behind his ass.
- And with that, the final scene now has Ichiya in full possession with Matakara all the while saying that he is lacking anger and hatred in his heart. Matakaraâs eyes lacked shine and now resembles Ichiyaâs.
mulled it over for a while and ultimately decided i'm really digging this arajin-matakara fight, because like
the whole series has set up arajin as a piece of shit fuckhead (and i LOVE that for him) but this whole lying to matakara about wanting to be a honki people thing... is like the one thing he did not actually do
i get real rambly under the cut but tl;dr the way matakara treats arajin is the way arajin treats mahoro and that is suuuch a juicy parallel to me
throughout the whole series arajin has been not at all subtly trying to get away from these fights
could he have been more direct about that with matakara? sure maybe! but matakara was really ignoring all the signs that arajin is not who he thinks he is
which is such a delicious parallel to how arajin willfully ignores all the signs that mahoro is not into him
like. matakara built this version of arajin up in his head, with all these unreasonable, unrealistic, and honestly unfair? expectations based off some past foolishness from when they were very small children. he's clinging to this version of arajin that only exists in his head and has basically shown zero evidence of existing in real life
(yes arajin shows crumbs of courage but i think the scales are tipped pretty heavily towards his I DO NOT WANT ANY PART OF THIS moments)
this fight between them was like if arajin were to blow up at mahoro like "you've been leading me on this whole time!" when obviously. lol. no she has not
she did initially! just like tiny arajin as a child had those honki people ambitions! his ambitions may have been genuine, while mahoro feigned interest in him with malicious intent, but they're same in the sense that after that initial story beat, they have consistently demonstrated that actually no what happened back then no longer applies (whether because they grew out of it, in arajin's case, or they were faking interest in the first place, in mahoro's case)
but arajin is blinded by what he wants (mahoro) and ignores the reality of mahoro snubbing him at every turn, and matakara does the same, ignoring the reality of arajin really just... being extremely reluctant to have anything at all to do with him
anyway that's the main thing i'm chewing on and loving here, but ALSO i think the story paints this parallel in such an interesting way because like
matakara is just a big sweet ouppy dog of a boy! it's so so so easy to feel sorry for him, to root for him, to think the best of him. which i still do btw, in fact this episode made me like him more than i already did
because matakara is so uwu angelboy perfect, and arajin is such a dickhead, it's easy to instinctively think oh matakara must be completely right to be hurt and arajin must have hurt him. even if that isn't the case! this doesn't make arajin any less of a dickhead, but he's a dickhead mainly for other reasons
the fact that they've been set up as the perfect epitome of the Pure Boy and the Pervy Boy tropes is just such clever framing for this parallel between them, because i imagine a lot of viewers, if told what mataakara is doing to arajin is what arajin is doing to mahoro, would be like omg wtf no my pure angel baby is nothing like that disgusting freak?
except in this case! he literally is!! which is brilliant!!! i think it adds nuance to both matakara's character and arajin's character at the same time, making it so it's not just one of them is Perfect and one of them is Wrong All The Time
what's even better is that this made sense for matakara, like his reaction breaks him out of the Pure Angel mold but doesn't feel out of character. his emotions are already running high with what happened to his brother, plus akutaro is malewife mansplain manipulating him behind the scenes, so of course he feels like he's driven towards this emotional high that leads to this blowup
the groundwork was already laid out, and it wasn't even subtle. it was right on the surface! but this episode really highlighted how matakara's way of treating arajin is so much like arajin's way of treating mahoro and how inevitable it was that things would reach this point
(there are moments, even in this episode, that are in hindsight so clearly setting up this parallel! like arajin trying to talk to mahoro during lunch, mahoro CLEARLY not interested, making viewers think ugh arajin get a clue. then matakara often IMMEDIATELY coming in to try to talk to arajin, when arajin is the one who clearly isn't interested, making viewers think boo arajin be nicer to him! like i think the show deliberately set the audience up to have those emotional reactions, and this is the moment where the rug is pulled out from under us, so to speak, where it becomes even more obvious that... wait... double standard much?)
anyway. personally my only gripe with this episode is i wished they'd done more with aniki than just pseudo-fridge him, and hope they do still do more with him in the coming eps? but kind of understandable if they don't, because it is just a one-cour show after all
the actual blowup between arajin and matakara was just. mawh, chef's kiss. perfect
redraws of some old rosiemillas because ive been replaying styling star for the nth time and i remembered i love them. old ones under the cut!
it/they- real nyanbinary madness- hey! i'm mew. i ramble a lot about my interests. welcome to headcanon hell- doodle dump galore- multifandom
