ArtFight attack for @kakiloutre ~
Really cool characters and world building, I had so much fun drawing this and getting a bit more creative with poses than I usually do 👉👈
So I decided to do (sort of) a redraw of an old piece I did back in July 2018. I think I really improved on art and yeah - this was really fun to do!
Characters are my fursonas, art and characters were created by me - don’t steal, trace, copy or heavily infringe!

Bit of background Info on Seijoh: - For centuries Aoba Johsai has been the cultural centre of Miyagi, attracting many travelers, scholars and artists - Hence they do not have a state religion and are considered a rather scientific country - this however does not mean that the population, especially in rural areas, are not supersticious, they just don't worship any deities or something of the similar - The Seijoh typically burry their dead and mark graves with more or less elaboratly carved stones - it is believed that the dead are happier burried under the open sky, hence constructions such as mausoleums, temples or crypts are very uncommon - Traitors, criminals or otherwise convicted people are typically executed and entombed in massgraves not worthy of individual markers - The complexity of the stone monuments errected depends heavily on the status of the deceased - commoners usually have a plaine slate, sometimes with little hand-crafted engravings, traders or wealthier people usually comission more elaborate gravestones and royals and nobles are typically remembered with larger sculptures, sometimes depicting the person themselves, sometimes in the form of stone trees or large flowers - Every child born into the royal family is automatically considered a royal with a claim for the throne - Princes and Princesses wear smaller jewlery such as tiaras or diadems to express their status - Kings and queens wear heavier crowns, usually rich in gemstones - Unless a King or Queen specifically requests to be entombed with their crown, it is usually up to their heir to decide whether they want to carry it on or have their own made - hence AobaJohsai too, has no official crown, but it can happen that one crown is worn over several generations - The "official" gems are the blue diamond and the grandiderite (exclusivly worn by royalty) often acompanied by saphires and white diamonds (symbol of status and nobility) and other blue stones (representing varying social statuses) - Crowns have more of a ceremonial purpose, typically worn at special events - Wealth and status are more commonly expressed through fashion - especially through accessories and gemstones as some kinds are only alowed to be worn by a certain rank of people Details on Iwaizumi's Stuff: - his crown is made from iron and white gold, the iron representing his service as a night and is adorned by a grandiderite - his blade is made from crow steel (more info here) - it was a gift from Karasuno, the engraving in the blade reads Seijoh ("Blue Castle") - with the lenghts of 110cm (aprox. 43.3 inch) it is only little shorter than average, but regarding the proportions, the blade is very broad and flat - the hilt is forged like an oak tree with the crown at the base of the blade and the roots forming the handle, capturing a grandiderite at the knob - the sheath is made from hardened leather and has another gemstone worked into it at the front Details on Oikawa's Stuff: - his crown is made from silver and white gold and is made, heavily resembling his mothers - it is very rich in gems, the two center pieces being a grandiderite and a blue diamond, surrounded by littler gems and additional saphires referring to his noble heritage - it is not a full crown, but open at the back of the head so that it can be slipped around his horns and doesn't get stuck on them - while also known to be an excelent swordsman, he is famous for his archery skills and therefore is mostly envisioned with a bow - his favourite bow is made from willow wood, wich is very flexible and able to withstand his demon strenght - with 120 cm (aprox. 47.2 inch) it is a longbow, complimenting his tall stature and allowing wide shots - it has metal ornaments on it, most prodominantly the oak leaves adorning the ends of the bow - the quiver is made from leather, altough he owns another, more elaborate and show worthy made from steel
And my 2nd & ½ piece(s) for the HQ Fantasy BigBang—More Fem!SakuAtsu being fancy and pining for each other 😩💕 (Can you spot all the cameos?)

Okay so basically I have two ways to approach this.
On that is just me being a petty sucker for love and the other a little more… scientific.
So what if we had them going all the way to ‚properly‘ - which I just assume is kissing and/or sex.
For one Kaz shows that he is starting to work on his trauma by holding hands with Inej at the end of CK.
And Inej with her backstory at the menagerie it‘s like: Bruh, don‘t get me started on how she must feel about sex!
So they both just start to tackle their individual problems slowly, which is absolutely fine (and possibly leaves room for a third book).
But they are just so darn hecking cute together I want them too smooch for pete's sake!
(As I said I just am sucker for love in a well developed story)
And so, the let us say ‚scientific‘ reason I think they are ‚only‘ holding hands at the end of CK (appart from a possible third book) isn‘t Kaz character but Inej.
Kaz is shown in his flashback scenes that he actually tried before to live without the gloves (with that other girl, sorry I forgot her name, that he was collecting fight bets with). He just choose not to, because working through his trauma was getting in the way of business and that was simply more important to him and his big revenge scheme. So I think if Leigh had just started to ‚rehabilitate‘ Kaz just a little earlier in the books she could have comfortably made him confident enough to go out ‚properly‘ with Inej by the end.
And that is why I think It‘s actually about her and her past as prostitute.
Idk how to explain this but at least to me, Inej might be trying to work through her history but even close to the end she is still terrified by the menagerie.
She is not like Kaz, who sort of choose to just go along with his trauma, she is still somewhat in it‘s thrall.
So that will just take a lot more time to unravel and she is only just beginning with it.
Sure she stuck her middle finger into Tante Heleens face but isn‘t that the exact reason why she wants to be a pirate and fight? To work her way through the trauma?
To become stronger? Strong enough she can leave the nightmares of the menagerie behind once and for all?
So in conclusion
*Clears throat after typing a lot of probably unnecessary explanation that got kinda of topic at the end*
Leaving aside my petty desires and also I my imminent need a Wesper/Kanej double date because fu** you, that is my jam!
*nervous sweating*
I don‘t think it would have been realistic for Inej to make that step, even at the end of CK.
Which is just a too long explanation of: I want it, even though it definitely doesn‘t fit into the novel!!
So I am glad Leigh didn‘t actually let them get together ‚properly‘ - and here come my big big hope - yet.
(Even though it would have been just so cute *silent sobbing*)
Also @arin-saintsforsakencity - no problemo ;)
Oh man so a couple days ago I met a high school teacher who had read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom and she had the coldest fucking take I’ve ever heard despite being otherwise a very smart, sensitive person. I knew she had read them and I was so excited to talk about my close readings of metaphor and subversion/reinforcement of racial tropes and all the other stuff I’ve never quite managed to type up. So I asked her what she thought. And she said.
She said that she wished Kaz and Inej had been able to “properly” get together at the end of CK and I almost choked on my fucking orange soda. I’ve never been so let down by a literary opinion in my entire life.
I managed to argue with her a little but her heart wasn’t as in it as mine was. I’m so disappointed. So yeah if you hold this same bad opinion, this is an open invitation to hash it out with me.
The musician turns away to set his lute down, and then holds his hands out again. “Can’t you hear the music? Dance with me.” “Why…?” “Because,” he says. “We might die tomorrow. So let’s dance tonight.”
