I like how unique Kaidou and Kuboyasu’s relationship is

The only people who found out about Kuboyasu’s past that wasn’t through the Saiko incident are Saiki, Kaidou and Akechi. Saiki knew because he’s a mind reader, Akechi knew because he’s super observant but Kaidou just found out through sheer coincidence. He had an entire arc where he tried to deduce whether or not Kuboyasu was really a delinquent by observing his actions.

And their friendship started in such an epic way too, one that was somewhat emotionally touching instead of just being comedic.

Having feelings in this Chili's my car today about how Saiki definitely develops a huge soft spot for the sound of Akechi's voice.

Imagine being forced to listen to the thoughts of every angry, depressed, anxious, horny, and weird thoughts of hundreds of people constantly. And then finding out that you can tune into radio Akechi, whose thoughts and chatter are more than enough to drown everyone else out.

Instead of hearing a constant barrage of pettiness, prejudice, and stupidity, Saiki can listen to an almost infinite collection of random facts, interesting observations about the people and world around Akechi in the moment, the occasional affectionate thought about him in particular, and yeah, regular updates on Akechi's bladder status.

At its worst, Akechi's chatter is only benign and boring, and often when he knows Saiki is listening, he'll turn his thoughts to topics he knows Saiki has interest in.

It's like putting on noise-cancelling headphones and playing NPR in the background but the NPR hosts love you and spend half their time trying to entertain you specifically.

Not to mention how Akechi is smart enough to take care of himself, and fond enough of Saiki to keep an eye on his silly herd of friends for him.

Anyways the sound of Akechi's voice/thoughts makes Saiki relax and immediately drops his blood pressure. <3

Alright then, here is my take on the whole shipping discourse in this fandom.

As someone who headcanons that Saiki is aroace with zero romantic or sexual attraction, I think it’s not my job to police anyone who likes to ship him with other characters. I can respect others who do so (and sometimes I find their ideas to be very interesting), and so can you. It’s not like getting angry over this will fix the problem over night.

I do wish less of the fandom was about shipping, because I think that the platonic relationships are the backbone of the series and are worth exploring. Despite that, I absolutely love seeing what people think about different pairings because the fandom is so creative.

It’s important to note that although Saiki says he has no interest in romance, he is written to be an unreliable narrator, meaning it’s hard to tell whether he is explicitly aroace coded or not. I like to think he is, but I don’t think others are wrong for disagreeing.

However, I do understand why someone would be upset with all of this. It is a bit frustrating to see a character you see as aroace be shipped left and right. In that case, it’s best to block users/tags that you are not interested in. Blocking something really isn’t serious, it’s simply a way to make this platform more enjoyable to you.

Anyway, I think this discourse is a bit useless. Let people see the character how they’d like. There’s no use arguing with each other. I think we can learn to respect different opinions.
