This time, not by the white supremacist police force, but still because of racism.
Miguel was a 5 years old little boy from Recife, son of a domestic worker, who went to work with his mother.
Yes, his mother was still working as a domestic worker during a worldwide pandemic, just as MANY other women and black folks who have not been liberated of their non essential jobs in white and rich people’s homes.
Miguel’s mother left the apartment to walk her employer’s dogs, leaving her son behind with the apartment owners. The young child was scared and started crying for his mother. Somehow, he was so terrified he went after his mother, made his way to the elevator and ended up on the 9th floor where he fell from the great height. According to the investigators of the case, the apartment owner is responsible for allowing Miguel in the elevator as she is seen doing so in surveillance cameras.
His mother’s employer didn’t talk to the child. She didn’t comfort him. She didn’t keep an eye on him and protected him from going into an elevator by himself. He was neglected because she didn’t see him as a child. But how could she, if she didn’t even see his mother as human enough?
The media is hiding the apartment owners names. They are white, rich and, apparently, involved in politics in Recife. The woman who employed Miguel’s mother was taken by the police but has paid a 20k Reais (brazilian currency) bail out. Twenty thousand Reais. And they couldn’t pay Miguel’s mother her salary to allow her to stay home during COVID-19 pandemic?
This is what structural racism does. Slavery has never ended in the Americas, it just evolved into something that is “maskable”, “acceptable” and normalized.
We need visibility. We are done seeing black folks becoming statistic numbers. It is horrifying that we had to wait for USA to revolt against racism for white rich Brazilian folks to “decide they were anti racist too” and start talking about it more on social media.

His name was Miguel, he was 5 years old. Say his name.
Justice for Miguel. Justice for João Pedro. Justice for Marielle Franco. No justice, no peace.

i’m so ;-; sad right now…
Like i knew starco was gonna be endgame, it’s pretty obvious, and anyone that didn’t see it coming is obviously blind, but this is too much…
I at least hoped that tom and star would break up in a more healthy way, like jarco, but more meaningful, since their relationship really symbolizes everything star fights for.
But this? If Star and Marco don’t fix this as proper human, or mewman, beings, i’m just gonna take a step back on having any respect for Starco. Like if you thought the fans were toxic oh boy you were wrong, Star cheating on my boy Tom, and Marco kissing Star knowing that she has a boyfriend? Um? Cheating anybody? Like i’m sorry but Star didn’t seem in the least mad or upset at the situation, she just pointed out the fact that she has a boyfriend, but she didn’t seem not a bit upset.
ok i’m rambling and a little bit salty but i just had to :’(
This is going either ways: Star tells Tom, they break up (and you can bet your ass star will find the way to make it seem like this is tom’s fault, saying he’s not good enough or whatever the fuck), or she tells him, apologizes, and their bond becomes stronger.
I’m just hoping it’s the latter, or have their relationship broken in a satisfying way, but seeing how the writers have handled relationships, i highly doubt it.
Now all of Pearl’s songs, above all “it’s over isn’t it”, hurt more than EVER. All of her pain and trouble make MUCH MORE SENSE now.
Let’s start from the beggining:
“Everything I ever did, I did for her. Now she’s gone, but I’m still here.”
Hear me out: she never stopped serving her diamond. All this time, all through the years up until Rose had Steven, she was still serving her diamond.
We think Pearl is free and strong and all you want and that’s what they’ve made us think, but she was still under her Diamond’s orders, no matter that Pink told her that “not telling everyone their secret” was her last order. Just by being by Rose’s side, Pearl was still bound to obey and accept everything Rose told her, everything Rose believed, everything Rose did. She hadn’t let go of her ties with her diamond.
And if you don’t believe me, I address you to:
“When you live for someone you’re prepared to die.”
She still lived for Pink Diamond. She was ready to die for her Diamond.
Without Pink Diamond, she’s nothing, no one, has no purpose.
She loved Pink so much and thought Pink loved her back, thought she was the most important being out there, and when Steven was brought into the picture, she realized she meant nothing to her, not a goddamn shit.
She wanted her Diamond back with her so much, omg. She did really feel like her whole fucking world, all of it, had gone when Pink did.
“It’s over isn’t it” isn’t only Pearl singing about losing the love of her life, it’s Pearl singing that EVERYTHING she ever did, EVERYTHING she became for her diamond and EVERYTHING she sacrificed, all the lies, the risk, the fucking torture, all of it is over for Rose, but she still has to carry the guilt and the pain and be in a place she didn’t want to be in to begin with. She only ever did what she did for Pink so they could be happy together after the war, but now Pink’s gone, and she’s still here.
This is only 14 years after losing Pink, and what’s 14 years to a gem??? Nothing. She’s getting over Pink pretty fast for the long history they’ve got on their backs, tbh.
I’m so glad she can tell the truth now and get rid of that pain.
I hope she’s okay, fuck.
