sometimes i feel like having a bare minimum knowledge of how structures of power rule this world through capitalism is a curse that keeps you from ever being truly happy and capable of just. enjoy things again. like the good old days. when you used to play the sims and not think about how a life simulation game this big won't ever be able to simulate your life and culture because a) you are not american. b) the game is made by a multibilion american company for americans and you just started playing it in the first place bc of piracy and cultural imperialism. your parents made you learn english when you were younger so you could maybe leave the country and live a better life than the one they had but the internet happened while you were growing up and every single piece of information you wanted was accesible only in english so you start thinking. ok why everything is so centered around the usa. why is their culture depicted through their media as the default culture. why am i only able to see myself and my culture through their distorted lenses. Blue Pearl.

Even by pearl standards her existence has got to be pretty horrifying. Imagine getting hit by sudden bouts of depression every time your boss loses control of her emotions (which is almost always). Blue Diamond was channeling that power into an outright attack in the last episode, but it’s clear that her emotional output is just something she DOES. Constantly.

You’ve got to imagine that ever since the end of the war, anyone in close proximity to Blue Diamond feels slightly worse than they would normally, and Blue Pearl is forced to be by her side almost 24/7. She’s been carrying the weight of another person’s grief around for so long, she probably doesn’t even realize it doesn’t belong to her anymore.

OKAY SO. MEGAPEARL

she is an iconic, unexpected fusion. but as soon as i saw her on screen, i immediately recognized her design. the hair? the outfit? very clearly referenced from:

REVOLUTIONARY GIRL UTENA!! megapearl’s hair is obviously from anthy (right) and her outfit is obviously from utena (left). but as you may know, rebecca sugar has referenced RGU in steven universe several times!!! RGU has a lot of meaning to me so this is especially exciting for me to see!! it even helped me to realize how similar our pearl and pink/white’s pearl are!

our pearl is like utena. she fought because she believed it was what she had to do to reach her destiny. yet her “destiny” caused her so much hurt and she failed to realize it until much later, after things had gone sour.

pink/white’s pearl is like anthy. she was repeatedly used by others for their own gain, and simultaneously idolized these people because not doing so would result in abuse. she then adopted this mindset of idolization because it was all she knew how to do, and didn’t realize how badly it was hurting her.

ANYWAYYYS that’s my rant on SU and RGU. not sure if anyone else put two and two together but it made me extremely happy to see this!!
