Izuku is bustling around the house, helping his mother clean as fast as his limbs allow so that as soon as he’sdone he can run to the store to get all the possible snacks he’s seen arepopular for this sort of thing. He takes care to pick all the ones he knows tobe his friend’s favourites, throwing in a couple to satisfy his own cravings thenmaking his way back home. His mother watches him from the entrance to his roomin mild amusement as he scrambles to get everything ready. Movies, games, music, food, sleeping arrangements, he’s planning everything down to thelittlest detail as if this is the most important event of his life and ifanything were to go wrong it could ruin it beyond hope of ever fixing it. Shegiggles into her hands, startling Izuku out of his musings when he notices herpresence, not realising she was even there at all and feeling heat crawling tohis cheeks.
“I know what you’re thinking.” Hemumbles, biting on his bottom lip.
“Do you now?” She grins knowingly andit only serves to spark his embarrassment further.
Izuku covers his face with his arms, hischeeks on fire and his stomach suddenly twisting up into a million knots thatmake him feel a little sick. He doesn’t want to think about it, not today, thatwill just make things awkward and hard to deal with… Probably. It’s alreadyenough that this is the first time he’s having a friend over for the night, hedoesn’t need to be dwelling on the fact that said friend might be a little morethan just that in his eyes. He’s not ready to handle that. Not just yet, anyway.
“Don’t say it.”
“Say what?”
The innocence in his mother’s voice isas deceitful as it is accusatory and Izuku groans, the doorbell ringing andmaking him jump at the sound. His heart starts drumming against his ribs and hefreezes where he’s standing, unable to bring himself to move until his motherasks if she should go answer the door herself. That seems to jolt him back intomotion, the mere thought of what she might say to Shouto while he’s busy tryingto get his brain to reboot enough to drain the blood from his face. Inretrospect it’s actually a good thing, given that he was previously blushing sodeeply it would have been hard to hide.
He bolts towards the hallway, taking adeep breath before actually opening the door. Shouto is standing there, a bagslung over his shoulder and dressed casually, something that Izuku is more thanused to seeing at the dorms. And yet, he finds himself flustered from the waythe thin shirt clings to his skin, the faded jeans something he hasn’t seen hisfriend wear before. They have tears on them over the knees and Izuku stares fora little too long, catching himself before Shouto actually notices (he hopes)and invites him in.
Izuku would like to say that he has noidea why his palms are suddenly sweaty when he steps aside and watches Shoutoremove his shoes, in his house, for the first time ever, but that would be aflat out lie. He swallows nervously, his mother walking in after a while and smilingat them as she approaches them.
“A-ah mom… Um, this is… Todoroki-kun…From school…” Izuku stumbles over his words awkwardly, rubbing at the back ofhis neck with blood crawling up his neck and pooling on his cheeks when hismother regards Shouto, who’s bowing his head out of respect.
“A pleasure to finally meet youMidoriya-san. Thank you for welcoming to your home.”
“Todoroki-kun is so polite. Please, Ihope you enjoy your stay. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well.”
She returns the gesture and Izukushifts from one foot to another, unsure of how to go from here. Lucky for him,his mother seems to notice his quite obvious distress, suggesting they go over toIzuku’s room and call for her if they need anything. Izuku breathes out hisagreement, motioning to Shouto to follow him down the hall and stepping pasthis mother, trying his best to ignore the amusement twinkling in her eyes andhoping that Shouto doesn’t see the reason for it.
Once they get to his room and hecloses the door behind them, Shouto takes a look around and hums thoughtfully. Hismouth twists slightly, a mix between curiosity and confusion and Izuku isworried he might have left something weird out of place.
“It’s not what I expected.” He pointsout, gesticulating vaguely to the walls. “Not nearly as much All Might merch asI thought there would be.”
Izuku turns away, fidgeting with histhumbs and sputtering slightly. “Well… I took most of it to the dorms withme…”
Shouto nods with a small smile, askingif it’s okay for him to set his things on the bed and sit, to which Izuku isquick to reassure him that he should feel at home here. An awkward silencefalls between them until Shouto breaks it by asking what they should do. Eventhough he’d spent the good part of the previous day looking up activities for afriendly sleepover, faced with the question, Izuku falls short of an answer, his brain throwing all the options at him at once and not allowing him tosettle for a single one.
“I’m not sure… I haven’t done thisbefore…”
“Really? I honestly thought you werethe kind of person to do this a lot.”
Izuku scratches at his cheek with asheepish grin. “I didn’t really have many friends growing up apart fromKacchan. As you can probably imagine, he’s not the sleepover type…”
Shouto hums once more, as always a manof few words, and Izuku sits down next to him.
“Why did you ask me over then?”
The question takes him by surprise andhe stares down at his hands to hide the bright flush that’s suddenly back witha vengeance. “Well, you were going back home for the holidays and… I thought I’dkill two birds with one stone by getting you out of there and getting to seeyou during the break…”
The small ‘thank you’ coming from hisfriend makes Izuku’s chest feel fuzzy and, given that they still haven’tfigured out what to do, he pulls his phone out of his pocket to show it to him and distract himself from the feeling.
“I made a list of things we could do.”Shouto lets out a sharp breath, a small laugh, Izuku notes, one that says ‘ofcourse you did’ as clearly as if he had actually uttered the words.
They pick one of the many options atrandom, the mild tension slowly melting as the hours tick by. They watch somemovies, get way too invested in a game of monopoly that Izuku ends up winningafter almost going bankrupt twice and, at one point, go a little crazy mixingdifferent flavoured drinks just to see what would come out of it. They come tothe obvious conclusion that it was a terrible idea, if Shouto’s short sprint tothe bathroom to spit it out and gargle some much needed water was anyindication.
Without them even realising time slipsright between their fingers and before they know it, it is way past 2 am.Shouto, as it seems, gets a little sleep drunk around that time, and Izuku hasto wonder if that’s why he never stays very long in the common room when the classhas collectively decided to goof off for the night. One thing is for sure, it’sthe most adorable thing on the face of the earth.
Shouto is curled up on his side whileIzuku does the same but from the other end of the bed, their faces merecentimetres apart, his cheeks tinted with the faintest of pinks as he mufflestiny laughs with his hand. Shouto has been having a giggle fit for the lastfive minutes about something that Izuku isn’t at all privy to but can’t helpbut laugh at as well. He wishes he knew what is going on inside his head, what’s so funny that he can’t stop laughing for so long, a little bit out ofcuriosity but mostly because he wants to know how to make those sounds come outof him more often. Izuku asks, but the only response he gets is Shouto coveringhis face even more as his shoulders shake harder, tears springing to thecorners of his eyes and making him look even cuter.
His laugh is just as endearing, littlehiccups that he tries and fails to mask sounding once in a while but otherwisesilent, the crinkling corners of his eyes and the smile hidden behind his palm, coupled with the quivering of his body, the only other proof that it’s evenhappening. Izuku’s own giggles are a bit louder, higher pitched and breathy, but they seem to make Shouto want to laugh even more. Though he’s a littleembarrassed of how it sounds, if it amuses his friend he will let it out asloud as he can without risking waking his mother. He nudges Shouto’s shoulderlightly, mismatched eyes looking into his from above.
“Come on, tell me. Why are youlaughing?” Izuku begs between his own chuckles and Shouto finally takes hishands away from his face, a brilliant lopsided grin stretched across his lips.
“I have no idea.” He breathes out, going right back to laughing uncontrollably, much to Izuku’s delight.
Iwant to kiss him.
And just as that thought slams intohim, Shouto leans up and presses their lips together for a split second, pulling back right away with another tiny chuckle and turning his back to him.Izuku just lies there, motionless, all hints of amusement gone and replacedwith shock as he stares at the back of Shouto’s head, still chortling andcompletely oblivious to his sudden freak-out. He has no idea if that justhappened or if his sleepy mind is somehow playing tricks on him, or worse ifShouto has no idea what he just did. Slowly, Izuku sits up and Shouto feels theshift of the mattress and looks back, seeing his dumbstruck expression and hislaughter dying down at the sight.
“Why did you-”
Izuku gets cut off by Shouto proppinghimself up and doing the exact same thing he’d done before, but this time withno smile and no giggles, just their lips touching for a heartbeat before hepulls back. That same blush is still dusted over his cheeks, and Izuku iscertain he’s sporting a very similar- if not much brighter- one. Izuku’s heartleaps in his chest and he can’t help the goofy grin that suddenly takes overhis features, the bubbling laughter breaking out of him all over again asShouto joins him. They can’t stop their chuckling for so long they lose trackof time all over again, though the little pecks they share every once in awhile might be enough to count the minutes.
Must have hurt like hell
I wonder. Would this be like the bat signal for the Supernatural fandom? And yes this is my first tattoo.
