The winter chill this year was far harsher than it had been years prior. The town was covered, coated in a thick snow, blanketing the buildings and dead trees. The falling snow had lightened considerably, a soft flurry now. The air was crisp and biting, almost painful to breath. Even just the brisk walk from your farm to the clinic proved to be more annoying than anything. You stepped into the clinic, an unsettling feeling taking over as you took in how quiet it was. Normally Maru was up front, greeting you, the two of you chatting before you went off to see your husband. And sure, the clinic was never hustling and bustling, but this time of year there was at the very least soft music playing throughout the waiting room.

Now it was just eerily silent.

“Harvey?” You called out, pushing the door open, voice laidened with concern.

You knocked once, just to fully announce your entry, the wood creaking as you pushed it open. Harvey was inside, hunched over his desk, papers scattered about him. His normally well put together appearance was more dishevled now, hair messy, and the part of his face you could see through his arms appeared pale. It took a moment for him to notice you, but when he did, he sat up, pushing his glasses up.

“Hun?” You stepped closed.

His shoulders were slumped, posture off; you could hear the whistle of his breathing from where you stood. He looked the definition of drained.

“Hey,” He greeted you, voice gruff, “I’m just going over some files. Do you need something, dear?”

He tried to cover the cough that followed, and you felt a pang in your chest. He may be the doctor in your relationship, but it was beyond evident that your husband was sick.

“Yes,” You said softly, crossing to stand right before him, “I need you to come home.”

He tried to stand, pushing himself up from where he was seated, his legs wobbly. He winched, coughing some more, body trembling from the force. You steadied him, feeling the unnatural heat emanating from his body. He shook his head, looking ready to argue.

“Don’t even try that,” You chidded gently, forcing him to sit before he got dizzy, ignoring the weak attempts to resist, “Dear, you’re running a fever. You can’t work like this.”

“I’m fine,” He tried sounding put together, “It’s just a cold. I can’t leave the clinic unattended, especially during the winter.”

You frowned, running your fingers through his hair. His skin was burning under your touch, his hair unkempt and sweaty.

“You’re not fine,” You argued, keeping your voice light, “If anyone needs something, they can contact Maru. I’ll call and let her know you’re out of remission.”

“I can’t just—”

You interrupted him, voice more firm than it had been before, “Harvey, you need to go home. You can’t work like this.”

He sighed, though it sounded rather rough; he knew there was no use in arguing with you over this. Even so, he tried.

“I can just finish up some paperwork,” He trailed off, his argument hanging off his lips as his body sank further into his chair, exhaustion clearly taking the reins.

“I’ll just stay here, finish up a few things…” he trailed off, his eyelids heavy as his body sank further into the chair, exhaustion clearly taking over.

“Come on, we’re going home, and you’re going to rest, no arguments.”

He looked like he wanted to protest, but whatever words he had died on his lips. He didn’t have the energy to fight you on this, instead opting to sigh weakly, allowing you to help him up.

“Fine,” His voice was even quieter now, “But I’m coming back when I feel better.”

You smiled, cupping his cheek, thumb brushing against his cheek bone,”Of course, dear. Now bundle up, we’re going home.”

You were glad you had overdramatically bundled yourself up, being able to take off your own scarf to wrap about your husband, the cloth muffling his argument to this movement. Once you deemed him bundled up securly, the two of you left, locking up behind you. You knew Maru had a key, and you’d call her once you got Harvey settled into bed. The walk back took longer, your husbands walk sluggish, and you were worried he’d stumble and fall. Nothing like that happened, thankfully. Once you two got inside, Harvey looked even worse, cheeks red, and you weren’t sure if this was due to the cold or his fever. You helped him to your bedroom, making sure he laid down, propped up on the pillows.

“Bedrest, no arguments,” You said, tucking the blanket around him snuggly.

You moved to the kitchen, grabbing the phone to call Maru as you poured some water into the kettle, already pulling out all the ingredients to make some green tea with lemon. You informed your friend, who wished your husband a speedy recovery, before you two hung up. You debated making some soup, but you’d rather him rest for a bit before you woke him up to eat. The house felt colder, and as you waited you moved to the fireplace, replacing new wooden blocks on the hearth to make sure it was burning as hot as it could without risking catching anything on fire.

Once the kettle went off and you steeped the tea, you wandered back into the bedroom, Harvey perking up even just a little when he heard you come back in. He gave you a weak smile when he saw the tea cup in hand.

“You don’t have to go out of your way,” He started, voice hoarse but so familiarly loving.

“I do, actually. It was in the vows. In sickness and in health,” You replied, sitting next to him, “Besides, I owe you for all the times you’ve taken care of me after a bad run in the mines.”

He chuckled weakly, accepting the mug from you with a quiet thank you. Sipping the tea slowly, you noticed how his hands were still trembling, though less so. He hurried to take his glasses off when the steam fogged them up. For a moment the room was quiet, the only sounds the fireplace crackling in the distance.

“Thank you,” He whispered, the mug now half empty, and you moved to place it on the side table, “I’m not used to being taken care of, I suppose. Doctors truly do make the worst patients, and all that.”

You smiled, brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead, the warmth on his skin still present, “Well get used to me taking care of you, it comes with the marriage territory.”

He leaned into your touch, eyes closing for a moment, the clear exhaustion evident on his face, “I’m so lucky to have you.”

It was silent after that, a comfortable, warm silence, “I think I’ll make some soup later, bring you some more tea and water. You need fluids.”

He nodded absentmindedly, already starting to drift off, the warmth of the bed and the tea, and you presence relaxing him greatly, “Alright… promise me something?”

“Anything.”

“When I’m better, we’re going to go on a winter date,” His voice was thick with sleep, eyes still shut as he spoke, “We can take a walk in the snow, maybe get some hot cider at the saloon.”

You smiled, chuckling quietly, “I promise.”

He smiled, faint and tired, his breathing slowing down as he finally fell asleep. You watched him silently for a few moments, your heart swelling unbearably in your chest. Your husband was far too kind and too good sometimes, you were truly the lucky one to have him.

THIS WAS THE BEST THING TO WAKE UP TO >.<

ah this moodboard event seems so fun! >.< I’m gonna do my best to send enough detail but not go overboard!!!

so my selfship is with Tsubakino from wb, I just adore him sm!

I don’t entirely know what to put so I’ll do my best! very coquette with outfits and style, literally one of my favorite aesthetics I can only dream of wearing irl because of my job :( but also loves playing volleyball, bc that sport is genuinely so fun >.<

w tsubakino they’re outfits are always coordinated and on point, envy of all couple outfits because it’s tsubakino so obviously— shopping dates, coffee dates, at home spa nights, movie nights, etc. just soft and loving, and they’re each others best friends

they both love decorating for the holiday season— their apartments, their classrooms, helping the town decorate, helping (forcing) kotoha to decorate her cafe as well! as well as being able to give presents to show their friends how much they mean to them, even tho in Japan chrismtas is mostly about romantic love they also love showing platonic love for their friends as well

always at some point get caught under the mistletoe by “accident” w out fail

no colors or things I don’t want! i love this time of year >.<

Number one can I just say how obsessed I am with your selfship??? Like HELLO?? Honestly an OTP, me and Satoru Nii just got off the phone and he told me its canon now. Tsubaki is so slept on and doesnt get the love he so deserves so this makes me so happy.

The matching outfits?? Decorating together?? Its all so stinking cute and I'm officially obsessed with the both of you. I can just imagine you both going to a cozy cafe in your matching outfits looking like ICONS (me and Suo are shipping you both for sure!)

I kinda took the coquette thing and RAN with it, I hope you enjoy!

Suprise! A little drabble for you (ฅ́ ˘ฅ̀*)♡

Tsubaki hummed, making sure his lips were perfectly glossed as he headed towards where you were waiting for him. There was nothing more he adored than the way his signature red looked against you lips. He had been very strategic when asking for you to wait while he got two mugs of cocoa. He knew every place where Ume had sneakily hung a bushel of mistletoe. Smiling to himself when he saw you exactly where he wanted you, away from your crowd of friends at Ume’s annual holiday party. He swooned, even after all this time you still managed to get his heart racing, it pounding in his ears much louder than the clack of his heels against the snow coated cobblestone.

“There you are, my love.” He smiled, approaching with the two mugs. “Its so pretty out here with all the lights and the falling snow.” He hums, before smiling at you and handing off the cocoa. “Not as beautiful as you of course, but close enough I guess.”

He giggled, launching you to repeat the action before teasing him calling him sappy before taking a sip of the warm liquid. Shaking his head, before taking a drink of his own. Only to feign a noise of surprise a moment later. Pointing upward, your gaze following a manicured finger to where the touch of green hung in the archway of the gazebo.

“Would you look at that, mistletoe.” The tone in Tsubaki’s voice absolutely gave him away, that this was not as “accidental” as he would lead you to believe. “Well, you know how the tradition goes, angel.”

He smiles, taking a step forward, tucking a strand of blonde hair behind your eyes, admiring the way the lights reflect off the beautiful blue of your eyes. Wasting no more time as he dips his head, capturing your lips with his own. The hand not holding his mug comes up to cup your cheek, pulling you closer to deepen the kiss. He lets out a contented him against your lips, lingering for a moment before pulling away and pressing his forehead against your own.

“Merry Christmas, my love.” He coos, awarded with the sight of his signature color against your lips, sure he may have tricked you to get you under the mistletoe, but he was sure you didn’t mind too much. Especially not with the way you connect your lips once more.

“Where Do You Think You’re Off To?”
“Where Do You Think You’re Off To?”

“Where do you think you’re off to?”

It took you an embarrassing amount of time to process the question, clutching the sweater you had blearily grabbed like a life line. You turned, seeing your husband standing at the end of the kitchen, hands on his hips, an annoyed look on his face.

Instead of answering him, a muffle sniff came from you, the small movement causing pain to radiate through your skull. Shane seemed to see this, the disgruntled look melting into something far softer as he stepped to you.

You shook your head slightly, but didn’t have the strength to shake his hands off as he guided you back to your bedroom.

“Shane— there’s so much I gotta do today,” Your voice sounded hoarse and weak, the short sentence making your throat feel even dryer.

He leveled you with a look as he gently pushed you back onto the bed, gently laying you back, bringing one of the soft quilts Marnie had gifted you to cover your body.

“The only thing you need to worry about is getting better,” He rested his hand against your forehead, frowning at what he felt, “Besides— it’s raining cats and dogs out there. The crops are getting watered, the cats are all inside and the animals are in their barns. You got nothing to worry about.”

You huffed, not having even noticed the weather outside. Now that it had been brought to your attention you could hear the rain pelting off of the roof, the distant clap of thunder occasionally. He smiled as you melted further into the bed, heading back to the kitchen, mumbling something that sounded vaguely like, “That’s what I thought.”

You felt a little dip in the bed, your little tabby, Miso, having jumped up on bed with you, nuzzling your side with a soothing purr. Seemed even the pets knew you weren’t feeling too well.

You sighed. It had been a few years since you moved here, and honestly, it felt wrong not being up and moving. You hadn’t given yourself days off in forever, always finding something to do. Clearing weeds, planting and harvesting crops, pressing fruits or veggies into jams and pickled items, delivering any requested items, visiting Sandy or the island, going into the mines. Your days were full and busy from sun up to well past sundown.

So with it being, you glanced at the clock, eight in the morning, and you were still in bed, you felt worse for wear.

“Hey,” Shane had made his way back into the bedroom, holding a steaming mug, and you realized that you weren’t able to smell whatever it was he brought you, “Stop overthinking.”

You frowned as he sat next to you, placing the mug on the table, “You a mind reader now?”

“No,” He soothed your hair from your face, his palm soft and warm against your face, “I just know my spouse a little too well.”

You huffed, the closest you could get to laughing without it hurting your head. He tapped your nose once, twice. You blinked, the action jarring each time. He laughed quietly.

“You work hard every single day, every season. It’s a miracle you haven’t fallen sick before.” He frowned, “Well, I suppose, it’s a miracle you haven’t gotten sick since we’ve been married.”

That was true. Before, when you had lived alone, you always pushed yourself. You felt like an outsider, having to do more to prove your worth in this town. You had often worked despite not being able to breathe through your nose or see straight.

Now, you had Shane, who stopped you before you had even made it out of your home.

“You’re allowed to take time off,” He leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead, lingering there a moment before pulling back, “I don’t wanna get a call from Harvey cause someone found you passed out in the mines, okay? You rest, I’ll take care of you.”

Oh.

“I don’t fuckin’ need you here,” You knew his words were harsh, but there was no bite behind his voice.

He sounded sad, he sounded angry, so many emotions but none truly directed at you. You merely hummed, putting your bag down. He glared at you from his bed, a look you hadn’t been on the receiving end of for quite a while now.

“ ‘m serious,” He made no move to sit up or shift in bed, eyes tired and droopy, “Just let me sit here.”

“The crops have been growing quite well this season,” You started talking, pulling out a few containers from your bag, some still warm food you’d cooked earlier today, “I’m rather proud of them. Haley’s happy I have a little sunflower garden going this season, said she’d been decorating her room with vases of them. But you know what I’m most proud of this season?”

You turned around, holding up a blue container, Shane’s silence and unwavering stare your only response, “Got some good hot peppers going this summer,” You placed the container on the bedside table, turning away to grab some utensils you had packed, missing the way Shane’s eyebrows rose, the angry front dropping as he sat up, seeing freshly made pepper poppers sat next to him.

“I had to get Marnie to try them, ‘cause I’m still rusty with cooking,” You snorted, remembering the mess that was your kitchen after you tried baking a simple cake for the first time, “But she said I had all but perfected the recipe by now, so hopefully you can—”

You turned around, words dying in your throat as you saw silent tears falling down Shane’s cheeks, holding the container and staring at it as if it held all the answers he’d ever needed.

“Shane?”

He looked up, eyes searching your face, scanning and looking for something. He cleared his throat, “Why— why did…”

Oh. You knelt down next to his bed, feeling tears fill your own eyes, “I meant what I told you before, Shane. You’re my friend, and I care about you. You have so many people here who do, and I know that going through all of this is going to be hard, and I just need to show you that I’ll be here with you, every step you allow me to.”

He snorted, covering his face, hiding away as best as he could, “It’s just— I’m so tired. Of all of these. Of feeling like this,” His hand dropped enough that you could see his bloodshot eyes, tears still falling, “I’m so tired.”

You took his other hand, “You rest, I’ll take care of you.”

You must have been staring for a bit, cause you watched as heat slowly made it’s way across your husband’s cheeks, “What?”

“Nothing,” You whispered, leaning back further into the soft cocoon of your sheets and pillows, “I just love you, that’s all.”

No matter how many times you said it, those little words are ones Shane would never grow tired of. He sighed, watching as you slowly fell back into unconsciousness.

“I love you too,” He leaned across to pet Miso, “I thank Yoba everyday that you mover here.”

𝒯𝓈𝓊𝒷𝒶𝓀𝒾𝓃𝑜 𝓍 𝑅𝑒𝒶𝒹𝑒𝓇 𝓍 𝒰𝓂𝑒𝓂𝒾𝓎𝒶

𝒜/𝒩: Completely inspired by the "After Midnight" prompt that @stunie wrote for Tsubakino x Reader. I was re-listening to the song and the "I wanna kiss your boyfriend if you don't mind" had me thinking... Umemiya.

The club lights were low, the music blaring. At this rate you couldn’t even make out the lyrics, and your once fruity drink was watered down to a sad state.

There were a decent amount of people around; dancing, laughing, drinking. Yet you never felt as alone as you did now.

Your boyfriend— your friend? Your date.

Your date had ditched you a bit ago, a rushed apology that’d he be back, an aggressive kiss to the cheek, and you smiled, unable to respond before he was gone.

Five minutes turned into ten.

Ten into twenty.

Twenty into thirty.

At this rate you’d been sitting here alone longer than you’d been there with him. You shouldn’t be surprised, he had a knack for ghosting you in the middle of a week or ditching you on a scheduled date— hang out?

“Don’t tell me he’s done it again?”

It took you a moment to process that those words were directed to you, and you looked up from where you had been counting water droplets on the cup to see Tsubaki, a pout on his lipstick covered lips.

“Tsubaki?”

He sat down next to you, throwing his hair back over his shoulder, leaning so he was pressed against you, “Did he ditch you?”

You nodded sadly, pointing to where he was stood: a group of his friends surrounding him. There were some guys you had met briefly, having the displeasure of hearing their comments about you, and some new pretty faces. Girls that were leaning on him, leaning to be closer to him. The sight didn’t even break your heart anymore, so used to this same old song.

Tsubaki clicked his tongue, eyes narrowed at the group, before he turned his gaze back to you, “I’m sorry pretty girl,” He reached forward, tucking a stray hair behind your ear, the tips of his fingers brushing the underside of your jaw with a feather like pressure, “You deserve better than him.”

You took in a shaky breath, smiling weakly at him with a shrug, “It’s… not like we’re official yet,” He frowned at the word ‘yet’ but let you continue, “So he’s just…”

He was just what? Dragging you places outside of your comfort zone just to ditch you? Flirting with other girls in front of you before telling you behind closed doors they meant nothing to him?

Tsubaki seemed to think for a second, before grinning, a sly look on his face. The music grew louder, and he leaned forward, lips so close to your ear.

“I have an idea,” He sang the sentence quietly, his warm breath tickling your skin, and you couldn’t fight the shiver that ran up your spine.

Before you could ask he was moving, standing up and grabbing your hand. He pulled you forward, helping you stumble out of your seat.

“Ah— Tsubaki! What are we—”

You glanced back at your table, not missing the watery drink you left behind, glancing further to see your movement had caught the attention of your not-so-date.

You stopped abruptly, almost tripping over yourself as Tsubaki came to a stop, giggling to himself as he helped steady you.

“Ume-chan!” You glanced around him, see Umemiya nursing a drink.

He glanced up, setting the drink down with a smile, soft eyes glancing your way. You saw a flicker of surprise before it went away.

Tsubaki moved you to stand in front of him, leaning against your back, arms wrapped around your waist, chin on your shoulder as he spoke.

“Her date ditched her,” You winced at how bluntly it was put but, it was the truth.

Umemiya frowned at that, head tilting, “The same guy?”

“The same one,” You could hear the pout in Tsubaki’s voice, and you opened your mouth, to argue or defend him, you weren’t sure, but he continued.

“He left our poor girl sitting all alone.”

“He— he didn’t— he said he’d be coming back.” Even to yourself your argument sounded weak.

Unemiya frowned, making eye contact with Tsubaki. There was a moment of silence, before the frown on his face morphed into one of a small smile.

“Ume-chan,” Tsubaki moved the two of you, pushing you closer to where Umemiya was sat, “I had a brilliant idea.”

“Oh?” He sounded amused, leaning against his palm, looking up at the two of you, “Go on.”

“Well,” He shifted, moving so he could easily make eye contact with you, “How about you accompany us instead? I promise you, you’ll have a much better time with us than you would with him.”

Your cheeks burned at the meaning behind his words, and you glanced from him to Umemiya, whose smile hadn’t faded once. His eyes were bright, despite being half-lidded as he watched the two of you silently.

“I,” You swallowed, “I don’t know…”

Truth is you did know, the moment Tsubaki had taken your hand to lead you away from the table. The moment his attention was unwaveringly on you, you were ready to leave with him, follow him anywhere. Your heart felt like it was trying to beat out of your chest.

“We won’t do anything you won’t like,” Coming from Umemiya it sounded like a promise, his voice deep and sincere, “Just say the word and we’ll stop.”

You squeaked in surprise, Tsubaki giggling from where he had blown cool air against your neck, lips hovering mere centimeters from your skin.

“You can say no, and we’ll walk you home right now,” He said, pressing a quick kiss below your ear, chast and sweet, “But if you say yes,” His voice was sweet, practically dripping with honey.

You licked your lips, anticipation and nerves bubbling in your stomach. You risked a glance back, your date, not having moved from his group, but his eyes were trained on you. He looked upset, he looked angry.

A part of you liked that; that he was angry by your attention being taken by others. But the bigger part of you didn’t care. He had abandoned you time and time again, played with your heart by avoiding placing a label on whatever it was you two were.

You turned back, feeling your heart jump when you realized Umemiya hadn’t stopped looking at you. You know your voice would leave you, so you nodded, a firm look on your face.

Tsubaki squealed in your ear, his arms tightening around you. His lips pressed against your cheek, and he peppered you with quick, little kisses, his lipstick staining your cheek as he moved closer to the edge of your lips.

In a whirlwind of movements, you found yourself sandwiched between Umemiya and Tsubaki in the booth they had been seated in. You were practically leaned back onto Ume, one of his arms resting on the back of the booth, caging you in. Tsubaki was angled to be in front of you, hand cupping your jaw, thumb brushing against your cheek bone.

“You’re so beautiful,” His little compliment came out like a sigh, “Too beautiful to be treated like that.”

You felt more than heard Umemiya chuckle, voice closer to your ear than you thought, “We’d never abandon you like that,” Tsubaki hummed in agreement, “A guy like him doesn’t deserve you.”

You swallowed, heart hammering in your chest. You didn’t respond— you don’t even know what you would have said in response.

Tsubaki leaned forward, and your eyes shut automatically, his lips pressing against yours firmly. He tasted like a mixture of cherries and vodka, his lipstick sticky and sweet. You sighed into the kiss, and he giggled, deepening it slowly.

He was warm against you, and your insides felt like they were on fire. It felt good, better than any quick kiss or fast make out session your old-date subjected you to.

By the time Tsubaki pulled back you were out of breath. Cheeks flushed and lips lightly swollen, holding the same shade of lipstick that Tsubaki wore. He smiled, thumb swiping against your bottom lip, lingering for a beat.

“Such a pretty girl…”

You couldn’t fight the whimper that left your lips, pupils blown as you stared at him. He smiled, “Better not let Ume-chan feel left out.”

You were shifted, man-handled as if you weighed almost nothing, turning to face Umemiya. His gaze was dark, eyes trained on your lips. Tsubaki was behind you, a warm and solid force, grounding you.

Umemiya hummed, “Red’s a good look on you,” Before he leaned in.

Kissing Umemiya was different. Tsubaki tasted as sweet as he kissed, lips soft and smooth. Umemiya tasted like alcohol, a deep and warm flavor that took over your senses. Kissing Tsubaki was fun and breathtaking, kissing Umemiya stole your breath.

It was no question whether he was in control of the kiss, deepening it slowly, invading all your senses slowly. Kissing him felt like an eternity, but he pulled back only a minute later, a thin line of spit connecting between your lips.

If you were any more in your senses you would have been embarrassed.

Your face felt like it was on fire, panting quietly between them. Tsubaki giggled in your ear, “Better than your ex-date, huh?”

You nodded, voice cracking as you quietly agreed, “So much better.”
