Things about Greece you're (probably) getting wrong

When you say "Greece" or "Greek", that's automatically referring to Modern Greece and Modern Greek. It's an existing country with a population of around 10 million people. The Modern Greek language is spoken natively by those 10 million along with 1 million people in Cyprus and around 2 more million in diaspora. If you want to refer to Ancient Greece or its history/culture, just add the word "ancient" to it.

The Greek name for the country is "Hellas". "Hellenic" is an adjective used for non-human nouns. Don't call yourself "hellenic" even if you have Greek roots, you're basically calling yourself "Greek thing".

There is no one correct way of pronouncing Ancient Greek as a whole. That language spanned over a thousand years and across places that didn't communicate easily or were outright hostile to each other. It's like claiming that Shakespeare's works should be pronounced with an Australian accent.

Along with the famous 300 Spartans, in the battle of Thermopylae there were also 700 Thespians (not actors, people from the town Thespiae) and according to some sources, also 900 helots (slaves) and 400 Thebans.

The town of Sparta exists in modern day. However, if you visit Greece, unless you actually are from Sparta, do NOT call yourself a Spartan, no matter what school/university you went to. "Spartans" is the name of a far-right, outright neo-nazi political party, so calling yourself that here equals to associating yourself with that.

Democracy in Ancient Athens was not fair by today's standards. It was mostly a glorified, expanded aristocracy. The "demos" that had the authority to vote only consisted of land-owning Athenian men. If you were a woman, a slave, poor, an immigrant, or a child of immigrants, along with other descriptions I might be forgetting right now, you didn't have the right to participate in the ruling.

Oh yeah, the "birthplace of democracy" very much did have slaves. Some whom were prisoners of war.

Greece is on the southern end of the Balkan peninsula, located in South-Eastern Europe. However, many Greeks are wildly racist and will not admit we're part of the Balkans or Eastern Europe. There are cultural differences due to Greek not belonging in the Slavic languages (the most common language family in Eastern Europe) and for political reasons, but the main reason this distinction happens is very much racism. They prefer to be called a "Mediterranean country" (because then we're associated with countries like Italy and Spain, you know?)

Greece never recovered from the financial crisis of 2008, and has only been going downhill since then. However, the war reparations that Germany never paid Greece for the damages and the deaths it caused in WW2 is estimated to be over 200 billion euros. The German government considers this matter "to be in the past" (since they never paid them, I guess, we can forget about it!), yet is one of the countries that most strongly demands Greece to keep paying back the loans it took over the years from the EU. This is a very painful matter for all of us (especially considering there are people still alive who witnessed the destruction and death the nazis brought to the country, and now they along with their descendants are paying taxes that'll eventually reach German pockets), yet racism centers around hate for other Balkan countries and Turkey. Divide and conquer I guess.

I actually love how Sylvia likes wearing lipstick and gaudy rings and pretty hats and dresses on the job. I just know she had to fight and claw her way to a top position in WISE during a time when women didn't hold higher positions like that, AND be taken seriously (to be fair that's still a problem but obviously it was much more in the past). I imagine she joined after her family was killed, but any trauma from that would be seen as "oh woman too emotional can't handle this" so she had to lock it all down and turned to steel. Fullmetal Lady style. and yet she still shows her own feminine style as a sort of 'f you' to everyone that doubted her :)

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

I read on Twilight's wiki page that Endo always intended on him having a high paying job (like a doctor or a lawyer) and in the end he chose to make Loid a psychiatrist due to his affinity for psychology.

And can I say. Lawyer Loid was such a missed opportunity. So much comedic potential.

Like. you have Loid Forger, notorious in the firm for winning every case that comes across him, due to his clear and concise arguments and knowledge of the law. Then you look at his home life and see that this man can't win an argument against his four six year old daughter. The minute her eyes turn teary he folds so easily. Like. That's comedy gold.

And I feel like on first meeting Yuri would hate him even more. Like, I feel like Yuri's the type of guy who goes, "a defense attorney? AKA a professional liar?" (← is a cop lying to his sister about his job) and his internal monologue just goes, "what does yor see in him? sure, he's handsome, smart, popular in his firm--" [angrily munching on food Loid made him]

And there's news of a murder on several news channels while they're having dinner one day, and the news agency names the suspect and Loid offhandedly goes, "Oh, my firm handled that" (I have to mention my work life for the mission, so they dont suspect I'm anything but a lawyer), and Yor goes, "I don't think a man his height could have done that. Look at the blood splatter. Had to be someone taller" And Loid's looking at her like: 👁️👁️, and Yor fumbles with, "Oh, Yuri used to love those detective shows when we were kids" and Loid's like, "anything you say <3. do you want some more chicken?"

And, logically, if he's assigned to a popular/high-profile enough firm, there's a higher likelihood of him making contact with high-profile businesspeople (sure they have their own legal teams, but for a consultation or something?) rather than a psychiatrist. (Again, my own opinion)

But the only downside is whenever he pulls some medical shit he cant go, "Oh, I learned that in med school" but the natural excuse can be "oh, i was a sergeant, i learned some basic medical knowledge during the war"

Anyway. Lawyer Loid could have been peak comedy.

My trauma didn't make me stronger. That credit goes to me and me alone.

I made me stronger. I pulled myself through. That strength was already a part of me.

My trauma did not add to my character. It did not make me kind. It did not make me a warrior.

Anything I am is thanks to me.

Maybe you want to argue that I wouldn't have found that strength without my trauma. But it's still my strength, that I found within myself. It already existed in me for me to be able to find it. My trauma does not deserve the credit for it.

And even if it did help me find that strength, it doesn't mean I'm "better" for my trauma in any way shape or form. The trauma didn't do me any favours. And I'd still be better off if it hadn't happened.

Tokyo Debunker Episode 5 Spoilers!

Haku: Because there are three ghouls in Hotarubi.

me: silly Haku, of course there are three--

MC: But you and Subaru are the only ghouls of Hotarubi?

me: WHA-

props to the writers for writing Zenji's dialogues to flow so naturally as if he's always part of the conversation. it was only until The Reveal that i realized no one but Haku has ever DIRECTLY talk to Zenji or even refer to him/mention his name at all. or the fact that MC has never had any impression/monologue about him to share with us despite Zenji being quite the character and he was never NOT dramatic around her.

they really took advantage of the fact that us Players will never doubt Zenji's existence bc well.... he's obviously one of the playable characters in this game. why wouldn't he be there?

I swear the Hotarubi chapter has me thinking abt all this stuff honestly, especially with how darkwick treats ghouls and stuff (With how zenji puts it “if we ghouls are birds, then Darkwick is a birdcage with a heavy lock.”)

Speaking of Zenji, oml the plot twist at the end, I was legitimately tripping when Haku was like “there’s three ghouls in Hotarubi” and I was like, yeah, obviously, BUT THE REVEAL, I WAS SO SURPRISED. IT ALSO MAKES ME SAD TOO LIKE I WANTED TO CRY:(( I love Zenji and when he made Haku showed us one of his video and nothing appeared cause yk, I wanted to just curl up in a ball and sob

Haku is still kinda sus but i honestly love him still AND OML HE WAS SO SMOOTH THIS CHAP ESPECIALLY WHEN HE HELPED US TAKE OFF THE FOX ROBE AND HE WAS LIKE “I’m always down for helping you get undressed” AHSHAJDJA I WAS GIGGLING AND KICKING MY FEET FR FR

They had to kill of Zenji because he respects women too much, the sheer power of his "what are we doing to our beautiful queens?" Energy would have broken the curse within seconds and no I am not coping because he was my no 1 Hotarubi boy before and after and forever shut up

I really liked Hotarubi's chapter! It answered some questions by expanding our horizons and making it clear where we needed to focus. I don't think the school were ever set up to be "the good guys" but I wasn't expecting it to become as dark as it did? Like who was responsible for feeding Lyca? He is getting fed right, and not just by Subaru? Is Subaru feeding him? Cornelius I defended you in the shitty headmaster race but even Crowley fed Yuu please don't let him take the W in this.

Haku... I think I have mentioned this before but I will say it again and mention it in my Clash post but just because the spy/traitor is a traitor to the ghouls does not mean he is a traitor to MC. I don't know if any of you caught this, but MC asks him why he's so determined to help everyone at the school he says this:

Zenji's lines sort of imply he's flirty and charming with everyone, but his forwardness with the MC coupled with some of his affection lines makes me think that person he wants to help is her. And I am going to cut myself off here before I get to carried away.

Crazy Tokyo Debunker theory ahead, but if I don't put it out there before the next chapter drops I'll explode:

What if

What if the Like Doves anomalies aren't actually a sign that someone likes another person? What if instead they are being used by someone?

Listen-

We are told Like Doves are a sign of someone liking someone else by Kaito in chapter 1 and from Luca's reaction we can gather that Like Doves aren't common in the UK.

This alone just tells us that this type of anomaly might be native to Japan, or, at the very least, that they don't exist in the UK.

However.

I believe Luca has never seen them before because they are not "natural" anomalies.

Why do I believe that?

Well-

We need to talk about Taiga's reaction to Like Doves first.

He was SO UPSET when he saw one in Romeo's room. At first I thought that he was simply Not Happy™ that he might be catching feelings for MC (if we're to believe that Like Doves appear when one of the cast starts developing a crush on MC, like it looks to be the case from previous chapters), but I'm not sure that's the only thing, or perhaps it might not even be it at all tbh.

His behaviour and mood completely change when he spots it. It's ridiculous. He was incredibly chill and comfortable talking with Romeo and suddenly his sprites all look upset and/or nervous.

He has so many "quiet" dialogues, just staring and thinking. I counted like 5 on this conversation alone-

His voice. Shakes.

His confident persona falters-! Like--

Still, that is not conclusive evidence. Here I still thought that he was simply not thrilled at the idea of liking MC but that was all. He might not be used to liking someone and might be uncomfortable, or perhaps it might be a source of concern given that he clearly has a lot going on already.

However, unlike the rest of the chapters, we see a Like Dove twice in chapter 4.

And when does it appear for the second time? Right after Taiga tells us there's a spy amongst the ghouls.

Yes, I am saying that the Like Doves might be being used to spy on the ghouls.

'cause when do they usually appear? Either a case has finished or something of relevance is happening/has just happened.

If Like Doves were created for this purpose in this academy, it would explain why Luca didn't know about them and why Taiga was so on edge when he spotted one. Taiga knows something's up, especially if we believe other theories saying that he knows what will happen in the future.

Also, the second time he spots it he doesn't freeze up and immediately goes to shoot it??? And then he eats it- which is normal for Taiga but LISTEN. Even Romeo is freaked out! Both times Taiga acts weirdly because of a Like Dove Romeo is visibly shaken by his behaviour.

And if this is not the case and Like Doves are just cute anomalies to make MC feel special, that's alright. It was fun to think about :P

I find Taiga's behaviour with all of this very interesting. I want to inspect him under a microscope, y'know?
