Percy got one minotaur horn when he was twelve and another two when he was 15, he should ditch the sword and make a trident out of them. Imagine the flex
Yes, absolutely yes. You should totally rant more. We really are on the same wavelength when it comes to Pjo stuff. Considering Percy grew up in New York I am pretty sure he learned to be skeptical of everyone's motives and just naturally try and extract as much information as he could.
Given that he tapped into his demigod strength a bit later, he may or may not have manipulated his way out of some fights.
It's can also be said that Percy deliberately tries to appear clueless or weak so his opponents almost always underestimate him, and so do his allies. Only extremely observant characters like Luke or Carter and certain gods and other characters with good senses like Hazel or Meg could naturally pick Percy apart as someone exceptional or threatening.
But when he battles, suddenly everyone is hyperaware of his sheer aura of power or his frightening gaze. If you remember, Leo calls the look on Percy's face to be so threatening that it has the same effect as Jason summoning lightning. Or the way Piper says the look on Percy's face made her want to run in Blood of Olympus.
But I digress. The point is Grover knows most of Percy's habits, so he does all he can to put Percy at ease. And since information about others seems to interest Percy and Grover naturally loves talking about other people, he is only too happy to help with that. [I bet even Aphrodite Cabin can't help but let Percy in on gossips]
Another headcanon that I so desperately want to be true is that since Charmspeak is Aphrodite Cabin's gift and Aphrodite is of the sea; the power is similar to sirens. And maybe just maybe Percy's superior persuasive skills could probably develop into an ability of its own. It is also why I believe Percy is definitely immune to charmspeak. After all it only worked on him because he was possessed by other creatures and even then it took a while. Might be a reach, I don't know but I do love that headcanon.
So yeah, they totally gossip, and I bet Rachel joins in. Who would hide stuff from the Oracle any way? So she is totally in on most secrets of campers, and she Percy and Grover totally gossip.
This turned long for no absolute reason, but I really loved your take on this, so I couldn't resist.
Percy and Grover are the two biggest gossips in the riordanverse and no one can convince me otherwise.
Percy/Grover knows when the other has just learned something juicy cause of their empathy link (that's been completely forgotten buy literally everyone, something I cry bout everyday).
Now don't get me wrong, Percy and Grover would never share/spread what they know outside of each other, they know how damaging rumours can be.
I just hc that Percy subconsciously seeks out information on other people as a sort of "passive" defense mechanism if that makes sense.
With how little people tell him (if they tell me anything at all) and how often everyone, even those closest to him, deliberately keeps him in the dark, his habit of seeking out "gossip" and "rumors" when he was younger steadily developed into a habit of seeking and hoarding whatever information he could find.
Like he doesn't need to know but he'd like too, and virtually nothing about his behavior towards the others would change aside from the fact he'd be more prepared to interact/deal with the person he's talking to/facing, more prepared to "code switch" in a way.
Which loops in well with the fact that many people (Grover, annabeth, Thalia, Bianca, Zoe etc) confide in Percy/tell him bout their pasts/secrets easily enough, and while Percy listens to and empathizes with them he rarely offers up his own experiences.
One of the only times I can remember where Percy tried to get someone to see/understand his pov with him was in TLT where he asked annabeth something to the effect of "what if it was your dad that was kidnapped?" and annabeth replied with something like "I wouldn't care" which understandably surprised Percy. I think that interaction is part of the reason why Percy never speaks about himself/his past with others, it's obviously not the only thing that contributed but I think it was a decent sized factor in maybe not creating but rather cementing the idea that Percy should keep his cards as close to his chest as possible, and if he ever had to share any of his cards I think he'd like to know how he should share them, like how he should phrase things and what points he should make yk?
The more he knows bout the person he may have to interact with, the easier it would be to "make a plan" so to speak (and by "make a plan" I mean that Percy wouldn't have to worry much bout stepping into uncomfortable territory if that makes sense)
Let's not forget that despite what everyone says and believes (both in universe and in fandom), Percy is not only smart as hell, he's also incredibly observant and he notices a lot of things, he'd find it real easy to build a profile on everything he comes into contact with.
Grover, due to the empathy link, did pick up Percy's habit and adopted it himself but he also just straight up likes to gossip
(This got kinda derailed/rambley and this hc is totally just me projecting onto Percy a lil, I stand by it tho.)
This is gonna be an Anti-Percabeth/Annabeth rant so don't come at me if you continue reading.
Can't read HOO without Percabeth being shoved down my throat (at the point in life, I forgot everything in the books, hence why I need to reread them before starting CotG), like ffs, best Percy characterization in the series is SoN and it was TTC in PJO. Guess what they both have in common? Little to no Annabeth.
Honestly, maybe I should just shelf this entire series and give up? I don't understand why I saw Percabeth as the golden standard when I was younger? Have I really changed that much to the point that I hate Annabeth now when I used to like her? Like??? Who can stand this bitch irl? She's fictional and I roll my eyes whenever I see her name written on the page.
Don't even get me started on the Percabeth fandom. I'm reading a feel-good fic with Solangelo (because tsats does not exist for me, thanks) and these people just ask why there's no Percabeth??? This is a Solangelo fic??????
Supported/bought a zine and there's barely any art that has Percy in it with no Percabeth. Thought this was Percy Jackson and the Olympians? Does Percy have no character except for the fact that he's Annabeth's boyfriend? God, fucking hate this ship now, hate their fandom with how insistent some people are to smash our face with it too
THIS fucking close to just writing a character review on why I dislike Percabeth with my entire being and I am petty enough to do it in APA format. Just out of pure fucking spite.
I can Almost imagine how Impressive you have to be To Pull THE percy Jackson. Like pulling any Demi-God is great but PERCY?!? The son of posiden?!? THE SAVIOR of Olympus?!?
I headcanon that Percy is really just out of Anyone's League And You gotta be Pretty damn Special to be able to Pull him
Like imagine Fumbling him or breaking his heart
THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
Like come on Rick you are telling me Percy the greatest demigod of all time Jackson has to be paired up with someone who has nothing in common with him, frequently condescends him, literally forces her own views on him, hates his father, has a mother who tried to kill Percy, is controlling and toxically possessive of him and most importantly someone who has completely different life goals than him?? It doesn't even make sense when you look at it rationally.
I think Rick himself was trying to put Percy down in post Son of Neptune books by making his personality all about Annabeth.
We are talking about the Savior of Olympus, the bearer of Achilles Curse, the strongest demigod, the man who denied immortality from the King of Gods, Poseidon's favorite son, the only demigod to have been approached by other Pantheons first and well respected among their demigod equivalents, the only male demigod to have respect of Artemis, only one to be favored by so many Gods on the Olympian Council and that's only pre-Heroes of Olympus.
The Survivor of Tartarus, the demigod whose blood even Gaia wanted to wake to due to his power, the first and only Greek to be made a Praetor and now two times savior of Olympus. This is all without mentioning his singular and unique feats, and he has many.
AND THIS IS WHAT RICK DOES WITH HIS CHARACTER ARC????
Had Rick not been so obsessed with shoving Percabeth down our throats, he could have totally made Seafam Arc, and all our fics would have not been fics. We wouldn't even have needed headcanons for seafam cause Amphitrite and Triton and all of Atlantis would have absolutely loved him cause come on, it's Percy. It's impossible not to love him. So let's assume that's exactly what happened.
So the whole of Atlantis, Seafam, and most of the Olympian Gods love Percy and not to mention Sally and Paul, who are also very protective of Percy.
The new Lord of the Wild is his best friend, The Lieutenant of Artemis is his other best friend and cousin, both the children of Hades/Pluto are his best friends/cousins, the only other demigod to be blessed by Poseidon with a rare gift is also his very close friend not to mention other members of the Seven also respect him greatly and owe him quite a bit.
Hestia, Apollo, Hermes, Aphrodite, Artemis,Hades, Hepheastus, and even Dionysus and River gods either openly favor him or have much respect for him. (Poseidon and the Seafam are implied, Bob and Damasen as well).
This isn't even taking into account all the pegasi and nymphs and sea creatures who love him and that he has a literal hell hound.
Percy not only has friends in high places and the favor of literal gods on top of being Poseidon's favorite son as told by Poseidon himself, all the people with special abilities are all close friends with him.
In Riordanverse, Percy is like the only person you don't want to cross like ever.
So you know logically if anyone needs an explanation as to why Annabeth isn't a good match for him and someone like Rachel would have fit much better. A mortal blessed with sight much like his Mother later turned Oracle of Delphi, the girl who saved his life in literally the very first two encounters they have, a girl under protection of Olympians and blessed by Apollo?
Apollo could have definitely waived the celibacy rule as there have been mentions of married women later becoming oracles in Greek mythology( May Castellan too if you count the books) and that the rule is only to prove devotion to the God nothing more. And if Apollo can't, then Delphi, who is a spirit older than Gods themselves, could just change allegiances. She once belonged to Poseidons' domain, so there's that.
But since I am biased in favor of Rachel, literally any other ship but Percabeth would have been logical and fitting and better off compatibility wise.
I had originally intended to make this post on Percy's birthday for some well-intended chaos, because why not? But I had a bit of a health crisis since then, and I had no time nor strength to do anything, so here's this now. I have seen so many strongest demigod tier lists, and half of them I find to be somewhat inaccurate, so here's mine:
If you guys want to see specific 1v1 between any characters just post an ask and I will do a breakdown on following criterias:
Strength Knowledge Durability
Speed Battle Strategy Abilities
Stamina Battle Experience FEATS
Now feats is in bold because in the end, that's what actually determines the power level, so keep that in mind. A lot of people might riot, but it is what it is.
This current tier list is also based on the aforementioned categories:
1.PERCY JACKSON
(I don't want to argue over this there's. no argument to be had it's crystal clear)
Twice savior of Olypmus (the only one)
Was offered Immortality
Was War General of Camp-Halfblood during Titan War
Former Praetor of Rome
Bore the weight of the sky without Artemis's blessing
Survived Tartarus
Fought Kronos
Only one to survive the Curse of Achilles
Only one to overpower a primordial entity
Killed multiple Titans and Giants
Sat on a Gods Throne without any consequences
Blessed by Pan and Hestia
Defeated Geras
Wrestled Nereus
Considered to be the only one worthy of commanding a God by Apollo when he initially turned mortal
( Has killed so many notable entities and has probably hundred more feats but I won't mention them all or else it would all be a Percy list)
2.JASON GRACE
[ Okay, hear me out on this before everyone explodes. Nico has definitely one of the, if not the strongest, abilities in the verse in terms of both power and versatility. But he comes up short in terms of strength, stamina, endurance, and feats.]
Former Praetor of Rome
Defeated Krios
Has Killed more than one giant
Has Killed the Trojan Sea Monster
Has the highest combat experience/training out of all the demigods
Hera's favored demigod
Could go toe to toe with Percy for a good amount of time
3.NICO DI ANGELO
Survived Tartarus
Brought back Athena Parthenos, the Bane of the Giants
Faced a Primordial and got out alive
Half the reason the Titan War was won
The Ambassador of Pluto
(There's a few more but those are more on the abilities spectrum more so than feats)
The Ghost King
Could fight Nero equally for a while ( who is considered to be equal to a Minor God)
4. HAZEL LEVESQUE
(Between her and Meg I guess it's sort of debatable given Meg has more abilities and many feats, but Hazel has stronger feats and solid abilities herself)
Killed a Giant (more than one, with help but it's very impressive either way because of her significant contributions during those times)
Granted power by another God who is not her Godly Parent
Magic user
Has the strongest mist control out of all demigods
Tamed Arion
Praetor of Rome
5. MEG MCCAFFREY
(No don't bother debating this. It's true)
The sheer number of abilities she has alone is good enough to put her here.
Can summon Karpoi
Strongest demigod child of Demeter
Opened the Grove of Dodona(with Apollo)
Tons of feats ( check @respect Meg McCaffrey on reddit for elaborate descriptions)
Has mastered one of the deadliest forms of combat known (Dimachaerus, an ancient gladiatorial mode of fighting from the roman times. Apollo states it is one of the rarest and deadliest forms of combat one can master)
Was chosen to command a literal God turned mortal
6. THALIA GRACE
Fought all of Hades's furies and the worst of the monsters Underworld has to offer before her "death"
Has the blessing of Artemis
Lieutenant of Hunters of Artemis
Defeated Luke Castellan completely in pure combat who was before Percy, the greatest swordsman born in the last three centuries.
Fought Iapetus briefly and survived
Survived Orion's attack on the Hunters and fought him briefly and survived
Was considered the strongest demigod in Camp Half Blood before Percy Jackson
7. FRANK ZHANG
Praetor of Rome
Could lead a legion of dead soldiers
Neptune's gift of shape-shifting
As of ToA his life is no longer attached to the wood
The physically strongest demigod
Has the blessing of Mars which gives him enhanced strength and stamina
Can turn into a literal dragon (Need I say more?)
Fought and helped defeat a giant
Blitzed a minor God
(More cool stuff, people need to puts some respect on Frank's name)
8. REYNA RAMIREZ-ARELLANO
(Before the Piper stans roll in, Reyna worked for Circe for a good long while before she and her sister fled after the pirate attack so there's a good chance she knows how to resist charmspeak which is something alike Circe's enchantments.
Now Annabeth's a good contender to fight Reyna, but I am basing this on higher feats. Reyna fought and defeated Orion and was probably involved in overthrowing Krios while the only powerful being Annabeth has gone toe to toe with is Kronos inhabiting Luke's body and she does manage to corner Annabeth in Mark of Athena and Annabeth herself says she is unsure if she could win against Reyna, [it's super close though])
Former Praetor of Rome
Returned Athena Parthenos, the Bane of the Giants
Could easily go toe to toe with Annabeth who has far more training and combat experience than her.
The only Roman demigod to recieve Athena's blessing
Received a piece of Athena's cloak/shield Aegis.
Fought and defeated Orion, a giant who had previously almost completely decimated most of the Amazons and Hunters.
Has the blessing of Artemis
9. ANNABETH CHASE
(Yet again, to Piper fans,Annabeth is a child of Athena, born from divine, though, so i think Annabeth would be able to resist Piper's charmspeak to a certain extent and Annabeth has more feats and overall higher comabt and knowledge plus intelligence)
Held up the weight of the sky for half a day(with Artemis's blessing)
The only child of Athena to find and secure the Athena Parthenos
Fought Kronos and held her own while using just a dagger against his giant scythe
Outsmarted and trapped Arachne just using trickery
Tricked Polyphemus
Was able to fight the giant Mimas briefly with Athena in Blood of Olympus
Survived Tartarus
Architect of Olympus
10. LEO VALDEZ/PIPER MCLEAN
Honestly I can't decide between this. I am going to need you all to decide this one.
Most of Leo's feats are constructing or repairing things. Festus, Argo 2, Archimedies circle, convincing Apollo, and so on.
Piper's feats are all based on her charmspeak and nothing else. Khione, Medea, and even putting Gaea to sleep (because she was already sleepy and in mid-air cut off from her domain for long enough). The plan was Leo's, but the execution mostly depended on Piper, so it's a tie, I think, but let me know your opinions.
Feel free to share your honest opinions; though, mostly, let's agree to disagree on the Top 5. I can welcome debate over 6-10. But I think the Top 5 are mostly factually canonically accurate.
sadie “rules are made to be broken” kane
I cannot believe how this hasn't been addressed in the PJO Fandom yet but does no one notice that the books, Rick himself glosses over or downplays the fact that PERCY FUCKING JACKSON GAVE UP IMMORTALITY!!!
And in reason as to why Percy gave up immortality?
The Percabeth stans are only too happy to make "Oh Percy gave up immortality for Annabeth." The hell he did. Have we read the same books? Are you really demeaning the importance of what Percy did. Cause here's what happened, and here's why it's so important:
PERCY GAVE UP IMMORTALITY SO THAT GODS COULD CLAIM DEMIGOD CHILDREN EARLY SO THAT THEY DO NOT REMAIN DEFENSELESS.
Furthermore, he did it so CHILDREN OF MINOR GODS COULD HAVE A PLACE TO BELONG TO, TO HAVE IDENTITY OF THEIR OWN, SO MINOR GODS THEMSELVES CAN BE PROPERLY ACKNOWLEDGED.
Similarly, he further added that CHILDREN OF HADES SHOULD NOT BE OSTRACIZED, THEY AS WELL AS HADES DESERVE TO BE WELCOME INTO OLYMPUS AND INTO CAMP , DESERVE PROPER RESPECT.
What ticks me off the most is how such an important sacrifice such an important change is never addressed again to the extent it deserves.
Cause this is not a surface level thing. This is going to change and better the lives of all demigods that come after or even demigods who were wrongly forced to remain in Hermes Cabin. A safe, more respectful, more meaningful environment for all demigods no matter who their godly parent is.
Are you telling that children of minor gods don't literally worship Percy for doing all this? Don't wholly completely feel grateful at least that he voiced out for them over his own difficulties? That he made a safe place for them happen?
Are you telling me that Minor Gods themselves don't feel at least a little grateful and respect Percy who did this of his own volition without having even met many Minor Gods. That he voiced out for their own children when they couldn't?
Are you telling me that Travis and Connor or any other demigods and cabin counselors don't automatically rave on about the greatness of Percy Jackson to any new arrivals in Camp Half-Blood?
Cause we were robbed of this of a proper homage to the sacrifice other demigods, Luke himself and Percy himself made to make it happen.
Piper, Leo , and Jason all seem so ignorant to it. Even newer demigods in Chalice of Gods or other books seem ignorant to this, and that's so against the usual canon representation of Camp Half-Blood as a community.
We should have seen it in Lost Hero, should have seen it in Chalice of Gods, should have seen it acknowledge repeatedly. You know why?
Yes, Percy didn't want immortality, but don't you know that deep down Percy knew exactly what immortality meant? Eternal protection from his father in his realm. No Gods bothering him, no more sacrifices or death quests. Freedom to do what he wants. To be able to spend time with his family as long as he wants without the worry of risking their safety. And he gave it all up
NOT EVEN IMMORTALITY. GODS WOULD HAVE GRANTED ANY WISH. HE COULD HAVE WISHED ANYTHING. FOR HIM TO BE PROTECTED? NO MORE QUESTS? FOR GODS TO LEAVE HIM ALONE? HE GAVE IT ALL UP, ALL OF IT.
Perseus bloody Jackson made happen what no one in the History of Camp Half-Blood has ever done. He managed to make Gods change their ignorant ways. He dismantled a culture of neglect and abuse.
And the fact Rick himself let this happen, let all this gloss over, and the fact that Percabeth stans have the AUDACITY to insinuate that he did for Annabeth and demean Luke's sacrifice, Percy's sacrifice is beyond me.
The biggest concern of all Perachel shippers and the most used argument used by anti Perachel shippers is that Rachel is an oracle and she took a vow of celibacy so no dating. That's not exactly how it works.
The reason they are made to make such a vow is to put serving their God Apollo first and foremost.
May Castellan had already had a child when she went to bond with the Oracle, and her not being celibate has nothing to do with that as we know .
Now, even in Ancient Greece, older women have been vessels for Oracles. They just had to put their family aside.
So, in conclusion, the vow of celibacy isn't an obligate condition.
Now for a bit of an history lesson The Oracle of Delphi is extremely unique as she has existed long before the Gods did as a spirit in Lake of Delphi and was often initially referred to as the Oracle of Gaia.
The titaness Phoebe used the powers given by the lake to divine futures. That was how Rhea knew where to hide and how to trick Kronos as she had gone to Phoebe for advice.
Now, for an even more interesting piece of fact after the Gods took control, the Lake of Delphi remained for millenias under the jurisdiction of Poseidon himself.
Priestesses used to come there to seek the power to be able to divine the futures. Only when it was attacked by Python himself and then saved by Apollo who killed the Python did the Spirit of Delphi choose to host itself in Apollos Priestesses thus abandoning the Lake.
The spirit of Delphi has no clear allegiances being able to change who she serves, and we know the Oracle spirit has some fondness for Percy given his own exceptionally prophetic dreams which is a power akin to an Oracle.
This means Rachel can probably choose to serve another God, maybe Poseidon himself, again, so he would revoke the no dating condition.
Or or this is my absolute favorite headcanon about Perachel, that given how many times Percy has managed to save her when Percy eventually ascends to Godhood Rachel and the Oracle spirit, swear fealty to him.
Take that Percabeth shippers. Your only viable argument against Perachel is no longer an argument.
Athena: I once told him that in his loyalty, he would doom himself and the world, but he managed to find a way to overcome both. Why should there be any doubt as to his skills as an excellent strategist, daughter? If anything, he reminds me of Odysseus.
Annabeth: (speechless, having a minor attack, stammering to even speak) M-other... wh-what?
Poseidon: (proud as hell) Perseus is certainly better than that Ithacan bastard. Why, of course, Percy is the best strategist. After all, it was his idea to get me to join in the war against Typhon and his plan that the Demigod Army followed. Not to mention the creative ways in which my son finds a way to beat almost all his opponents.
Annabeth: (hyperventilating)......I am having a bad dream, a really bad dream, I need to wake up.
[Poseidon and Athena fighting over whether Odysseus or Percy is smarter in the background, unaware of the surroundings]
Hermes: (lowkey thinks of Percy as his best friend) I told you once, girl, you are your own worst enemy. Do not deny Percy his achievements. He has done much to get there.
Apollo: (high-key in love with Percy) I, the great Apollo, even have a haiku for each of his quests. He is also the reason I have my wonderful Oracle back. Would you like to hear them all?
[Every God in vicinity: APOLLO NO]
Annabeth: [having an epiphany and getting a massive reality check] T-this isn-isn't true. H-e, he would have, would have gotten nowhere without me. He would be dead without me.
Artemis: [rolling her eyes at Apollo's antics] Surely you mean the other way around child? Has Percy not saved you more times that can be tracked? Even my hunters admire him for the way he so respectfully teaches them some of his fighting techniques. Be glad Annabeth, Percy is a man worthy of admiration from all.
Annabeth: *almost chokes*
-------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, Hermes was getting personal. It's not his fault. The man's still recovering from Luke. The rest were just stating facts. Maybe Part 2 with more gods and another with Hunters? Hmm, will see no promises.
Okay it's 2025
Can we please leave the Dumb Percy Jokes back in 2024
Cause they should have never been a thing in the first place but some of y'all genuinely think he's stupid and it annoys me
I'm sick of the seaweed brain joke too, I don't find it funny at all nor do I find the dumb Percy jokes funny either
Instead let's Start the Smart Percy Jackson trend
Incorrect Quotes of just Percy being the genius he is (and even being smarter than Annabeth)
Like for example
Teacher: Okay here are your Tests Back *Hands Them Their Grades*
Annabeth: What?! How on earth did I Get a C+?! Seaweed brain why did you get? There's no way you got a better grade than me.
Percy: Um...*Shows her his paper that says A+ on it*
Annabeth: WHAT THE F-
Or how about this:
Young camper: Excuse me sir but Genuine Question who's the Best strategist here at Camp?
Annabeth: uh me Duh I'm the daughter of Athena of course I'm the best Strategist here
Chiron: it's Percy. Percy's the best Strategist here at Camp
Annabeth: wait wha-
Dionysus: I Agree with him, as much as I don't like the kid he is pretty Smart, definitely the Smartest strategiest here
Younger Camper: But I thought children of Athena were the best Strategists
Clarisse: **Who Overheard them**Kid, There's a difference between Being Book smart and being Street smart, and having a Demi-God who's fatal flaw is Hubris probably isn't the best person to lead us in battle, there's a reason Chiron and the rest of Camp put Percy in Charge instead of Annabeth, He's the best Person here for the Job.
Annabeth: Excuse me?!
Chiron: Clarisse is right Annabeth. And If I'm being honest with you, I put Percy in charge Cause I knew he was the Smartest and best person for the Job. You get blinded by your hubris and it Ends up falling apart for you, You couldn't even lead your own Quest. So why would I give you the responsibility of being the leader of Camp half blood?
Annabeth: But that's Not-
Clarisse: Face it Annabeth, Percy is Smarter than you
Annabeth: *Storming off* Ugh whatever!
He looked at Annabeth cause she reminded him of Luke's words and everyone else he had lost.
For the last time, he didn't give up godhood for Annabeth. And if you still think that after all this, then you have obviously missed a huge chunk of the books. He did for the Non-Olympian gods and their children, for everyone who had died to make this possible, for children of Hades, for Nico. He literally namedrops Nico two sentences after this. How can you reduce such a nuanced scene to some pathetic romantic implication?
I cannot believe how this hasn't been addressed in the PJO Fandom yet but does no one notice that the books, Rick himself glosses over or downplays the fact that PERCY FUCKING JACKSON GAVE UP IMMORTALITY!!!
