An albatross sketch I made. It's Halloween themed.
I wanted to practice color and lighting. I think I did ok. Lacking focus though.
Either way I'm happy with this.
it's a beautiful evening to microwave silverware

I suppose the big reason I prefer to draw a line between steampunk (i.e., taking modern ideas about what a high-tech society ought to look like and projecting them backwards onto an imagined 1890s) and Victorian retrofuturism (i.e., taking what people who actually lived in the 1890s imagined the year 2000 would look like and running with it) is because the second one is typically way more batshit than the first. Steampunk gets you giant robot spiders; Victorian retrofuturism gets you a habitable Lunar surface populated by anthropomorphic bat people. These are both very cool, but the latter has a certain something the former lacks.
i feel like the knowledge that there are some medical databases with free-to-use 3D scans of various human organs available for 3D printing would have drastically reduced tumblrs amount of bone stealing scandals. plus you can make ones that glow in the dark.
look at my glow in the dark humerus boy

DUUUDDEEE your art is insane!! I ADORE the scales you draw and render, and how you make so much of your illustrations look like real work staff from WoF would make! Do you have any tips for scales? Rendering? Drawing them :0?
thank you so much!! for scales, i'd recommend avoiding circle shapes and instead go for a more angular hexagonal shape! it reduces weird gaps in between the scales and makes the texture look a lot more tight-knit and interconnected
as for rendering, i think my best tip would be to start with shadows first. make a shadow layer, fill it in entirely with the base color for the shadows, and carve out the light source by erasing parts of the shadow layer. I've been trying out a new method of rendering which takes a lot less time but gives the same if not better results (using a color layer on multiply above a greyscale render layer with a color overlay to add color to the shadows! i'll go more in depth with this once i have a finished example piece to break down)
and i usually render scales by filling in each individual scale above the lineart to create an alpha mask and i use a clipping group using the mask
scale mask (normal layer mode, 100% opacity)
set to "color dodge" at 40% opacity, additional "shadow" layer (black color layer set to "erase" above the layers in the clipping group) used to create depth!
Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus), female, family Gavialidae, found in rivers in India and surrounding countries
CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.
This animal is now found in only 2% or its historical native range.

Thank you! He's such a a neat little guy. Im going to draw him later.
I really like Doom teller, #2. But I've never done adopts before. Can you explain it to me?
Sure. Adopts are where someone draws a design/makes an oc and then offers them up to other people. A lot of times people sell adopts but this case, they're free.
When you adopt a character the design is yours and it's your own oc to do whatever you please with.
Nobody's claimed Doomteller so you can have them if you want.
PLEASE do yourself a favour and check out this wikipedia-styled template for google drive, made by @ Rukidut on twitter
I decided to try to sort my ideas and whats canon regarding my ocs with this and ITS PERFECT. IT ALL FEELS SO CONRETE. and i sure as hell AM Going to continue to use this with every single OC I have until google drives is set ablaze- Just!!!!!!!!
Also; link directly to the doc, just copy the file and you have your own lil template!!!!
I like Wings of Fire and Cult of The Lamb. I like to animate and I'm still struggling to find my own art style
