Duty over friendship

I had miscalculated. Badly, and I was going to lose my freedom for having done so.

I had known Hannah since we were very young, and when she went into the police academy, I had actually found the situation somewhat interesting - a pretty girl I knew would be carrying handcuffs for a living - kind of hot!

But one day I was in a rush at the grocery store and went through the self-checkout without paying for a few items. Not on purpose, mind you, but when I got home and realized it, I was somewhat scared the police might come knocking on my door. The amount of the items I’d taken was around $50.

So I called Hannah and she came over. I sat her down and explained to her what had happened. At first, she was very pleasantly smiling.

When I was finished, she looked at me again for a moment, then smiled again.

“You know I love you, right?” She told me. “You are one of my closest friends. You’ve always been awesome.”

I felt this might not be going well. “Yes, I understand.”

“That being said, you really shouldn’t have told me this story. As a police cadet, I now have to place you under arrest and take you to jail. Stand up and put your hands behind your back. I have my handcuffs in my purse.”

My jaw dropped, but I numbly obeyed her. The beautiful girl moved behind me and I heard the disheartening click of the handcuffs as they closed tightly around my wrists. I was Hannah’s prisoner!

“Spread your feet for me,” she directed gently. “I have to search you before I call my friend Emily to bring her police car.”

My heart sank as my closest female friend ran her hands all over my body. I was helpless, captured, arrested, and it was entirely my own fault. Soon, I knew, I would be in the back of a police car, heading to jail, and regretting this conversation forever.
