Fantasy Masks AU: Chapter Eight

A JSE Fanfic

This chapter is pretty short (by my standards.) I sat down intending to get to the action, but I realized I couldn’t skip straight to it and there was all this other stuff that had to come first, so I decided to put all that into its own part and included some conversations between characters so it wasn’t just all exposition lol. Here, Chase and Henrik and a bunch of others all travel south, getting ready to rescue Marvin. Will they make it in time? Who knows? All I know is that shit’s going down soon. Enjoy this shorter part before that.

Even though it was in the name, Chase hadn’t expected the flatlands to be so…flat.

It wasn’t as though he’d never been on flat ground before. The floors of houses were fixed, as were the grounds where farms raised their crops, and even in the mountains there were stretches of level land. But he’d never been in an area that was so consistently flat. It was a bit unusual. He felt out of his element. If he’d known it would be like this, he might not have agreed to join the group sent to rescue Marvin.

Of course, he was honored that Henrik asked him to come. He could tell that everyone else on this mission was much more experienced than he was. Henrik himself was coming, as were Lukas and Tripp, meaning about half the leadership of Wyvernlair was currently not there. A sign of how important this was. But still. Part of him couldn’t help but feel he might be a liability, being so far out of his element.

Not A Part (JJ and Anti)

(So I got this idea from the song Machine by Imagine Dragons. Blood and torture warnings! Lots of violence! JJ kinda goes to the dark side, a little. It’s not good.)

Jameson struggled to breath. His head was pounding, his chest ached from the blow, and blood dripped from his mouth. The ever-present static scratched at his ears as it tore his body apart and stitched it back together, over and over. He was on his hands and knees, unable to stand. Anti kicked him again.

“Sto͝ṕ ͝fi̢ght̕in̕g ҉it, ͞pu̢pp͏e͘t͜!̨ Th̨is i̡s what̢ ͏y̨ou ҉wer͞e ͜b̢o͏r̨n̨ f͟o̵r̛!̨”

Jameson spit out the blood in his mouth. It never stopped, like Anti’s neck wound. It was a mark, showing that Jameson was under Anti’s control.

But he wasn’t. And he never would be.

“Go to hell.”

Anti laughed, but it was humorless and laden with rage. “Yo͜u'r͠e ̴n̵o beţter̸ th̕a̶n I ̨am! ̢Yo̕u're̵ noth͜ing̵ ҉morȩ ͠t́ḩan͜ a̛ ̡toơl̵ ͠f̸o̕r ̧me̶ ̶t́o uśe̵! Y͡o̵u͟'r̷e̛ ̕a ̢c͘o͘g̶ in m͘y m͢ach̛ín͠e!̷”

He kicked again. Jameson collapsed completely. But he stayed stubborn. “I’m not afraid of what you’re going to tell me, demon. You do nothing but lie.”

There should have been Zalgo. His slides should have been glitching as bad as his body. But they weren’t. Anti didn’t know why, and it made him furious. He grit his teeth. He grabbed Jameson’s shoulder and sent a flood of static into the young ego. “ Y̼̦̹̱̪̱̘̖͞͠͞Ǫ҉͍̮̤̻U̸̟̮̜̼̘͡!͇̤̭̤̮͇͖͜ ͎̪̪̣͟A̛̺̳̲̥͖̫͔R̜̬̫͠E͏̰͖!̪̞̟̘̪ ̝̤̫͈͚̗̼͈ͅM̷̱̯̩̳͈̲̕Ý̹͉̀͟!̗̫̺̺̳̀ ̱͍̤̮̭͓P̖͕̙̻̩̱̩Ù͎͔͈̹̲̕͠P͏̱̠P̙͓̝̜͉E̶̻̺̟̪̼̥Ṱ̶̟͇̲̗̹!̢̯̟̼̦͘”

Jameson screamed, his form exploding into thousands of pixels and glitches. Anti grinned. The mute had to submit now, surely.

Then he came back together.

But he was standing. 

And he was holding a knife.

His eyes were completely blacked out, but Anti couldn’t control him. Anti stepped back. “W͡-̸̵̡w͢ha̷͜͝t̵̛͘ is ͏̡t̶h̵͜͠ì̷̛s̕͢͟?̛”

Jameson stood, breathing heavily. He raised the knife, and pointed it at Anti. “I…I am NOT a part of your machine.” He glitched, and then he was right in front of Anti. He drove the knife deep into the glitch’s stomach. He looked him in the eye, unflinching, unremorseful, as Anti screeched with pain and shock. Jameson twisted the knife. His mustache twitched with satisfaction when he pulled the blade out and Anti collapsed. 

“Ho̵w.̵.͢.͜d͞a̵r͟e yo҉u,̀” Anti tried to growl, but it came out as almost a whimper. Jameson crouched down and grinned, just as Anti had done while torturing him so many times before.  

“It’s your own fault. You thought it would be a good idea to give me power, to tell me I’m meant for ‘great things’, fill my cup with endless ambition.” Jameson giggled. “But you couldn’t break me.”

“S̀o҉ ͢I b͠ro̶ķe͜ ̀y͢o̡u͏.̀”

Anti watched through blurry vision as the glitches around Jameson changed. They became less like static, less like computer glitches. He flickered around like broken film, the green tint replaced with sepia. Like in Jameson’s first video. 

When people wondered if Jameson was Anti in disguise.

If Jameson was a bad guy.

The static was replaced. The sounds of an old movie camera trying to run broken film spools, the scratching and screeching of broken records, a cacophony of old music that played one song over the other, skipping and screaming, they filled the room.

Anti held his stomach. It was pouring blood. But he wouldn’t die.

He couldn’t die.

He…he couldn’t die.

Could he die?

Jameson frowned. “You’re in so much pain. And it’s my fault! Where are my manners? Let me help.”

He gripped Anti’s shoulder, just as Anti had done mere minutes ago. And the chaotic noise shifted, from coming from Jameson to coming from Anti’s own head.

Anti knew what was happening. His eyes went wide. He tried to glitch away, but he was too weak. He was losing so much blood…

Jameson smiled. “Shh…shh…just relax…as I said Anti, I’m not a part of your machine.”

His speech slide lingered in Anti’s vision, refusing to go away completely. Anti shuddered. What was happening? Why…why couldn’t he think? He couldn’t…he was the puppetmaster…how…oh…the noise was so nice…once you…got used to it…

Jameson smirked as Anti relaxed.

“I am the machine.”

Beanbag chair (yeah it’s two words sue me it’s one thing)

“Help! I’ve been eaten!” JJ cried from withing the depths of the giant beanbag.

Chase could barely speak through his laughter but managed to say, “I’ll get Marvin!”

The beanbag shook and wiggled as JJ desperately tried to find his way out.

Oh, my boys! Oh, my new comfort ship!

-JJ will drag Dark away from paperwork to cuddle. 

- They’ll go into the library and pick a book to read together. 

- JJ will help Dark with paperwork if it gets to be too much. 

- I often use Anti as the bad guy while writing this ship because it really gives it a purpose. Dark saw JJ tied to the ceiling with puppet strings. He was a broken moustached man. So Dark saved him. Something he couldn’t do for someone else before.

- JJ followed Dark around for the first week trying to be helpful. Dark got upset and yelled at him. 

- He went and apologized to JJ after nearly all the Iplier egos yelled at him too. 

- Dark slowly fell in love with JJ when he spent time with the other ego. 

- JJ fell in love with Dark the moment he woke up in Darks arms as he walked him to the doctors. 

- Dark will get anything for JJ. JJ doesn’t want much but cuddles and love and the occasional chocolate. 

- JJ made quick friends with the Iplier egos. 

They will cuddle whenever they can. 

- Dark has a reputation and needs to uphold it but if JJ walks into a meeting asking him where he put his book Dark will drop everything to get it himself. 

- Dark often has problems with his back to the point of now being able to move in the morning. JJ gets him tea and whatever he wants.

- JJ sometimes helps Dark spy on people. 

- They would get married in a small reception with the Iplier egos. 

- JJ loves Dark Chica. Dark thought he would be scared of her but JJ loves her. 

- They go for walks in the woods that surround the mansion. 

- JJ isn’t allowed out of the house without Dark or Wilford because Anti might hurt him. 

- Wilford and JJ are friends and like to talk about the past and dealing with Dark. 

- Dark refuses to talk about the past but sometimes he slips up and mentions a memory. JJ tries not to get him to talk more about it. 

- The Iplier egos have found Dark doing paperwork in his office with JJ asleep on his lap. 

- They have a smilier grey tone/aura. Dark’s is more powerful and controlling. JJ’s aura makes people relaxed. 

- Dark only really knows how to flirt like in the movies. With a flower and chocolates. He gets flustered though and JJ finds it adorable.

So this is part 2/3 to the prologue of my fantasy au? I so apologize if this one doesn’t live up to the first. This one got a little too ambitious for me…. but I am still learning how to word ^^’ And dialogue.. i gotta learn to do that too. I’ll learn tho. I hope…. Criticism is appreciated ^^’

“Ugh, this is so BORING!” Marvin groaned. He slumped in his place on the throne, leaning his elbow on the armrest with his head in his hand.

“Your Highness, please refrain from such inappropriate outbursts….” Anti was highly unamused by the misbehavior and the disapproving look on his face said it all. He stood to the left of the throne with a book as big as an encyclopedia in his arms and a quill in his hand. As Marvin’s royal advisor, he stood beside him throughout most of the day charting records and ultimately helping the prince make decisions on social and economical issues in the kingdom. He was typically very calm and passionate about his work, always wanting to get straight to the point and sometimes getting carried away. 

At least, that’s how Marvin saw it.
