So tumblr is getting rid of unique blog urls, and going forward in order to have your own unique url you will have to purchase a domain name. Folks that already have a custom domain (i.e. username.tumblr.com) will keep it as long as you do not hit the toggle in settings.

Rest assured that your legacy custom domains will remain the home address of your blog until you disable the "Use custom domain" toggle in blog settings under "Custom Theme". I saw this posted on reddit to a wholesome memes sub, and it was full of nothing but people being unnecessarily awful on a post trying to spread information about why these creatures are beautiful and worthy of living. (Interesting note: They don't need a reason to be allowed to live.) I got sick of trying to correct people on there who were more interested in hating wasps than hearing the truth.

Honestly, it's just exhausting sometimes.
