@zutaraweek Day 3: Union

Zuko and Katara are at a gathering for those invited to the peace accords which seems to be more packed then usual.

Katara: Wow, there’s a lot of people here
Zuko: Yeah. There’s a lot of people this year.
K: I don’t recognize anyone yet.
Z: Oh! I can help you.
Z: That’s Mai. Her father is an official.
Z: She’s Suki. Leader of the Kyoshi Warriors.
Z: And next to her is-
K: Yue!

Katara and Yue hug and the teens (Zuko, Yue, Katara, and Suki) all chat.

Yue: Katara!
K: I missed you!
Y: I’m so happy to see you!
have never spoken more than hellos
was just trying to chat with Yue
awkward turtle duck
Z: So you do know someone.
K: We’ve known each other since we were kids.
Lu Ten: Prince Zuko?

Lu Ten appears, Yue and Suki gossip, and Katara's a bit sad as Zuko leaves with Lu Ten to handle business elsewhere.

Z: Lu Ten?
L: Sorry to interrupt, but can I steal you?
Z: Is it important?
L: Unfortunately.
L: They seem nice. I’m happy you’re making friends.

The girls gossip and Mai overhears.

Y: I didn’t know you knew Zuko.
Suki: Yeah. Do you know anything about the scar?
K: I don’t really know him. We just met. What do you guys know?
Mai: No one actually knows.
M: About the scar. They kept it quiet.

There's a small flashback to Zuko at 14 after receiving his scar, the girls continue to talk, and there's a final panel of Ozai, alluding to a family secret.

M: He just went away for a while. And then he came back and there it was.
M: That’s all anyone knows. Except Zuko.
K: That’s awful. There has to be more.
M: Well…people have some suspicions.

@zutaraweek day 3: union

a little follow up to this comic i did last year. i really liked the idea of union in a political context and this was a very round about way of that. like, a little tongue in cheek with all the different kids from different nations just sort of talking and gossiping together. teens doing teen stuff despite their high profile roles in society, that type of thing.

initially this comic was a lot more ambitious but some complications happened in my life which made me have to chip away at a lot of it. such as having it in full color, with backgrounds. there's been a lot of thought put into the world of the chief kya au, though! particularly related to yue that is not featured at all asdfghjk.

the more i worked on it, the more i got worried zuko might be a little ooc. but i was a bit inspired by crystal catacombs and the softness he had there. whenever i try to write him in this au, he's just usually just happy to be around katara so i'm just going to let him do what he wants.

PERCY JACKSON FANS HEAR ME OUT!

It’s season 3 of the PJO show AKA The Titans Curse. Percy (Walker) is sitting in front of Aphordite Goddess of Love and Beauty who just so happens to look like an older version of his best friend Annabeth (Leah) totally unrelated we’re sure.

Then he blinks and the beautiful woman in front of him changes….now she has brown hair and blue eyes she smiles, its Alexandria Daddario movie Annabeth. Just a split second cameo and then she’s gone.

Now a different woman is sitting in front of Percy, a woman with blonde hair and hazel eyes Kristen Stokes Lightning Thief Musical Annabeth. She shifts and changes again.

The final and last woman we see before Percy has curly blonde hair, tanned skin, and stormy grey eyes it’s book Annabeth.

Percy doesn’t realise it but we do. The Goddess of love shows him every version of the girl he loves from every universe he loves her in. It’s beautiful, it’s cinema, it needs to happen.

The number of fans I've seen turn their back on Kataras's character due to the Southern Raiders episode is astonishing and incredibly painful. In fact, it makes me wonder how people cannot consume media critically when the objective of the show is to create nuanced and well-rounded characters that almost reflect normal human beings like you and me. However, when a character who is usually good and who is usually nice and good exudes negative emotions and quite valid ones. How would you feel if you found your mother's murder? Enraged and upset and if you have the power that Katara has I feel that many of us would use it. However, I seen many fans get on a moral high horse and absolutely turn her back on her even after this episode was done. I understand that people are upset at the "you didn't love her as much as I did." Quote said by her to her brother. However, I want you to think about one thing. Imagine being the reason why your mother was killed. You were the one who was supposed to die that night. But your mother replaced your fate. Katara will always love her mother differently because her mother gave her life twice: once when she was born and the other where she protected her daughter by lying that she was the last water bender. She feels guilty for her mother's death. I've seen so many people permanently hate her character after this episode and it feels like people cannot generally understand a well rounded character. I feel that many people tend to coddle the other characters and their trauma, but when it comes to Katara people simply just don't care. Everyone decides to play the trauma olympics , with all of the characters , without understanding that they're all incredibly traumatized and comparing trauma does not help anyone's mental health. But for her it's a complete joke. There's memes and people laugh. In fact, whenever she does bring up her mother It is meant to help others and to be able to help bring comfort to their pain. She doesn't do it out of the luxury of grieving for herself.
