There are lots of posts that make the rounds reminding us to sit up straight, stretch, drink water, refocus our eyes, take our meds, etc. But while this may not be about your health, it's still super-important.

Back up your whole-ass computer. If you can afford a second backup drive, buy one so that you have one SSD and one HDD, and back up to both of them (you can back up just the current important stuff to the SSD and let the HDD do the heavy-duty lifting).

Do not rely on 'the cloud' or the internet to keep jack shit.

AND BACK UP YOUR GMAIL AS WELL HOLY SHIT. The last thing you want is a catastrophic issue where literally every single thing you have in gmail is gone. It's happened. It happened to a friend of mine and basically her entire life was in there and now it's all gone. 20 years of it.

ok so I came across a little malcolm bright fanfic (don't worry babes, linked below, go enjoy) and it began a lil bit of brain rot so hear me out:

(spoilers for the fic, go read it first if you want, commentary/word vomit bit is below)

ok so in this malcolm has a seizure disorder which Gil knows about, but not Dani. stuff gets figured out, others are updated etc. etc.

BUT

my lil goblin brain couldn't leave well enough alone so after like the third time reading this i've decided to pen (or rather type) these ridiculous things i can just about call thoughts

SO

let's set the scene, malcolm (yh for some reason my brain thinks the name looks better lower case? sorry if that bothers you but now it's slightly more symmetrical?) has a seizure while Gil and Dani are there.

(also not trying to romanticise anything, just going off what i got)

Dani and Gil are both used to the Complete Human Disaster™ that malcolm is so obviously they both know seizure first aid for future reference.

(also gentle reminder, if you don't know this go find out, there's like st John's ambulance videos that make you a functioning member of society in under 10 mins)

now, based on the confidence that each of them seem to have regarding the situation, they keep looking at each other like "huh, they seem to have done this before"

so they end up each thinking that malcolm must have epilepsy/a seizure disorder that the other knows about but they never got told.

they look after him, do all the things you have by now learned in helpful video format (wink wink) and everything is fine, right?

THEN

when malcolm eventually wakes up, and is told what happened he is understandably eloquent in saying "wtf, how, why etc." and his surprise makes them realise that for once he wasn't just conveniently leaving out information.

i feel like this started out fine and got slightly more unhinged and less logical as it goes on but if that isn't life i don't know what is

the point may have gotten a little lost and it petered out a bit but i said a thing and it's done so woo

It's almost done, just one night and it's Christmas Eve. But that also means that the calendar is coming to an end for us. That's why we're delving into the world of films today in the 23rd door and I have two beauties that we know from the Hornblower movies - HMS Retribution and HMS Hotspur

Here is more about the two and who is actually behind them:

The Earl of Pembroke was built in 1945 in Pukavik, Sweden, under the name Orion and was used for timber transport in the Baltic Sea until 1974, when she was laid up in Thisted, Denmark. She was transferred to the United Kingdom in 1980, where her complete restoration began in 1985. As part of the restoration, the ship was converted from a schooner to a barque (to resemble the famous HMS Endeavour, on which Captain Cook discovered Australia) and renamed Earl of Pembroke. From then on she served in various films in different rigs, but is best known as HMS Hotspur. Unfortunately, she had no further use in recent years and was completely scrapped in 2022.

The smaller Restribution is actually the Phoenix of Dell Quay, a brigantine. She was built by Hjorne & Jakobsen at Frederikshavn, Denmark in 1929, originally as an Evangelical Mission Schooner. Twenty years later she retired from missionary work and carried cargo until her engine room was damaged by fire. In 1974 she was bought by new owners who converted her into a brigantine before being purchased by Square Sail in 1988. A first aid over-haul enabled her to sail back to the UK where she underwent a complete refit. During 1991 she was converted to the 15th century Caravel Santa Maria for Ridley Scott's film 1492: Conquest of Paradise. She has also worked in: In the Heart of the Sea, Poldark, Taboo, Hornblower and Frontier. At the moment she is for sale.
