(original under the cut)
Okay, this might just be me being my usual Usopp fan-girl self, but I can't help but laugh at how much Usopp indirectly embodies what real-world snipers are all about—from both a professional and civilian perspective. I love how snipers are known for instilling fear in the enemy, creating hesitation so the infantry can finish the job. They catch the enemy off guard, shaking their confidence. Honestly, that's exactly what Usopp does when it counts.
Snipers aren’t just about shooting; they’re about spotting the enemy and exposing weaknesses. Usopp’s paranoia, his prepper mentality, and his mastery of deception are basically the perfect traits for a sniper. People say Oda doesn’t give him many chances to show off his sniping, but I feel like Usopp proves there’s more to a sniper than just pulling the trigger. He’s the ultimate prepper. While the monster trio charges in headfirst, Usopp is always thinking of Plan B, even if Plan A overshadows it. He’s constantly coming up with backup plans that no one else considers—until they matter. That's why he carries that bag. What’s in it? Plans no one else thinks of.
I know hyping up Usopp might sound nuts, but if you really consider all the cool things he can do, you’d see how he fits into the One Piece narrative. Yet, he’s unintentionally alienated by the crew—not in an angsty way, but because his role forces him to downplay his brilliance. Take the Clima-Tact: Usopp’s the one who made it, and that took some serious engineering, borderline quantum stuff if you ask me. Nami’s practical use of it only works because of his design. If people say he just made a useless stick that Nami had to fix, then why didn’t she make it herself? Usopp’s the genius here, but Nami recognized that genius. He could be way more egotistical about it, but he’s humble.
And let’s not forget, Usopp’s actions aren’t unforgivable because he’s always operated on a strong moral compass. I think he grounds his values in something spiritual, which makes him less rigid than someone who thinks their word is law. Just some thoughts I’ve been mulling over.
Dawg I have not been posting here at ALL
I’ll start posting some stuff from TikTok here soon. Trust trust
Crackpot theory:
Zoro keeps getting lost because he's instinctively walking towards the One Piece without realizing it.
Put him in a bubble, place him under an illusion of some place, and set him loose while the bubble is contained and you'll eventually find the One Piece.
sorry i’ve been thinking about this ask for months. not directionally challenged he’s just always chasing the bag
”I’ve come to make an announcement”
Happy 9th anniversary Undertale
Read the poem and couldnt not do a little something about it !
i'm not embarrassed to admit that like half the reason i got into one piece is because i'm aroace and i'd heard that luffy is (arguably, sort of, word of god) aroace, and i love the hc but i'm also happy that it has so much basis in canon & stuff oda has said. it feels like an intrinsic part of him and it's always depicted as a positive trait! something that makes luffy himself and it's a good thing
like, protagonists never get to be aro or ace unless the story revolves around them discovering their identity. it's really nice to have a character so full of life who knows so clearly who he is, who also knows that dating/romance/etc is not part of it at all. one piece has its misogyny issues but i get to watch it knowing that luffy is never gonna "get the girl" as a prize for anything and that his relationships with like robin and nami especially will stay platonic and important without having to become something "more"
his lack of interest isn't a tragedy because he doesn't give a shit what other people think of him, and even when it is part of a gag (like in amazon lily) the humor isn't coming from making fun of luffy for not experiencing attraction. he's not broken he's immune and i think that's so fucking based and funny. and the whole story is about friendship and found family because that's what's important to him! the aroace hc feels so correct to me and i'm so happy that one of the most popular manga characters ever is such blatant arguable rep
So we all remember this moment from Jaya
It's an iconic moment for a reason, people love it so much so you see people make fanart of it or even get it tattooed on themselves, and it's understandable 'cause what Teech says here is kind... hopeful, inspirational even
Which is why the scene always felt so wrong to me, in a way I could not like put into words or explain why?? Like I wanted to be like "hey this guy isn't that bad, I agree with him!" and yet what Blackbeard says here didn't quite sit right with me?
But now, in-hindsight, I understand why
It's because Blackbeard is wrong
Like, from the begining, from when we're introduced to Blackbeard, he and Luffy are explicitly shown to be the polar opposites of each other in many ways (their taste in food being just one easy way to summarize it), including in ideals and beliefs
And while it would be so easy to think this scene was about showing that despite their differences Luffy and Blackbeard actually have one thing they agree on, one common ground
They don't
Luffy's dream has an end
And it's not just that, that's not the only reason he's the opposite of Blackbeard in this sense. If Luffy just keeps on dreaming of doing things, he will never achieve them, because achieving your dreams means the end of them
And think about how that reflects on the rest of the story
If people keep on dreaming of freedom, they will never be free
Nami's village would remain in Arlong's hands, rain would never fall in Alabasta again, the fire of Shandra would never be lit again, Water 7 will sink into the ocean, the kids on Punk Hazard would never see their parents again, the families of Dressrosa would never be reunited, Wano would remain under Kaidou's oppression, everyone on Fishman Island will remain at the bottom of the ocean and never see the true sun
The dream must end or the people can not go free
The darkness of night will break away The dream will end and the sun will rise
