''You came from nothing. You are nothing. But not to me."
by Kylo Ren/Ben
and
"I will strip away all that you know, all that you love, until you have no shelter but mine. "
by The Darkling/Aleksander
are the most twisted beautifully tragic declaration of villainous love I have ever seen
Writing about a child rapist did not make Vladimir Nabokov a child rapist.
Writing about an authoritarian theocracy did not make Margaret Atwood an authoritarian theocrat.
Writing about adultery did not make Leo Tolstoy an adulterer.
Writing about a ghost did not make Toni Morrison a ghost.
Writing about a murderer did not make Fyodor Dostoevsky a murderer.
Writing about a teenage addict did not make Isabel Allende a teenage addict.
Writing about dragons and ice zombies did not make George R.R. Martin either of those things.
Writing about rich heiresses, socially awkward bachelors, and cougar widows did not make Jane Austen any of those things.
Writing about people who can control earthquakes did not make N.K. Jemisin able to control earthquakes.
Writing about your favorite characters and/or ships in situations that you choose does not make you a bad person.
It’s a shame that in this day and age these things need to be said.

“He looked at her…like the whole world could crumble and he wouldn’t blink.”
Y'know when you hear someone talk about their “guilty pleasure” and how it’s always something pretty benign? Like, “My guilty pleasure is reading erotica,” or “I love to watch sappy rom-coms; it’s my guilty pleasure,” or “Netflix is such a guilty pleasure–I binge-watched that entire show last night!”
Can we stop?
There shouldn’t be something inherently guilt-worthy about reading romance novels, erotica, young adult, or any other genre. Just like there shouldn’t be an guilt about preferring one type of music, or movie, or sport, or whatever, over another.
You don’t need to feel guilty about it!
Can we, instead, use the term “guilty pleasure” for actual things we shouldn’t be doing? Like…when I eat dairy or gluten… That is 110% a guilty pleasure. I shouldn’t do it. I know I shouldn’t do it. I’m going to regret it later, but right now I’m going to enjoy the heck out of this cheesecake.
I’m tired of society telling me I should be ashamed of enjoying romance and sex and “girly” things. (Because it always seems to be those types of things that are our “guilty pleasures”) So… no, it’s not a guilty pleasure that I watch Pride & Prejudice four or five times a year, or that I devoured an entire polyam erotica series, or that I like to paint my nails, or that I listen (and sing along) to Disney soundtracks. Those are just things I like to do. There’s nothing wrong with any of them.
